Or you just got to settle with this answer. The lead guitarwork on it doesn't sound like Bobby, doesn't sound like Jon and doesn't sound like Phil X. But yeah, it's not bad though it kind of makes it obvious how unimportant Richie's been the last 10 years or so.

My thought too but I think that Shanks is smart enough to understand that the question really was "did you PLAY...?"

Still less Eurovision-like than We Don't Run which everyone seems to love here.

I disagree. When I first heard Fingerprints, I couldn't believe that it wasn't Richie playing both the acoutic at the beginning and the solos. The acoustic, in particular, sounds like him to me. It's reminiscent of the long live intros to WDOA from years past and very similar to the intro to Harlem Rain.

Exactly! Technically, he could probably have answered truthfully that he recorded everything. And even if he understood "record" as "play" and meant to say he played guitar on all the songs, that still doesn't mean that he's the only guitarist who played on the album, or that he's the only one who did solos.

@johnshanks1 congratulations on your work on "fingerprints" sir. What a gem That guitars bring tears you're an artist

John Shanks ‏@johnshanks1

@kaszewiak wow thank you.means a lot.

ezearis 08-21-2015 04:30 PM

I know that nobody cares but this album wasn't released in Argentina. Right now Universal Music Argentina says "digital stores" only and we called a few record stores and it's not coming any time soon. Bummer.

The intro sounds more European than anything Richie ever did. Harlem Rain uses a lot of Bluesy licks, this one does not. If you wanna make a stretch, you could argue it has a similar harmonic feel as Burning For Love did, but even then, comparing the two makes it obvious that Richie likes to tackle this sort of things in a different way.

scoual 08-21-2015 05:14 PM

Anyway looks like shanks answered our queries,
Richie is nowhere to be found on those tracks unless he says otherwise...

I must admit that ... he has done an awesome job.

MJB12 08-21-2015 05:24 PM

Glad to see all the positive reception to the album so far. I think that if people would stop trying to determine what other band/song a certain song sounds like, they'd enjoy it even more.

Bounce7800 08-21-2015 05:26 PM

Rather annoying trying to actually buy the CD today. Asda didn't have it, 2 Tescos' didn't, neither had it listed in their top 100 (which includes new releases- Jess Glyne out today is at #1). Sainsbury's was a blank too, although at least it was listed, apparently they have 5 being delivered tonight, no use to me on my fruitless lunch break. My nearest HMV has shut down, and both them and Amazon want to charge for delivery on orders under £10 and naturally the album is £9.99.

Got it on Google Play but it's annoying how bloody frustrating just to buy a CD it is which used to be so easy.

Same here in my part of the US. Can't find it in stores, and can't find it online other than buying from a European seller on Amazon for twice the price plus shipping. Frustrating.

I agree but it's hard not too when the song instantly reminds you of something else.

Two or three songs that I know of that sound like others from the new album already and my music catalog isn't that big compared to others.

+1 with liljovi93.
What I find really annoying and embarrassing is not the fact that some BJ songs sound a lot like other songs but the fact that BJ dare release such songs, whatever happened to originality?

IML88 08-21-2015 06:12 PM

It's reassuring to hear that Shanks played the solo on Fingerprints. I'm not mad crazy for the song, its solid, but that solo is probably the second best thing on the album for me.

We've all questioned what he brings to the recording of an album, but now Richie has gone, if he can start to play an evolved part, reintroducing even a hint of a decent solo, which has been sadly missing from this band's output for years, then i'm all for it.

dianebonjovi 08-21-2015 06:24 PM

Bought it this morning at Walmart - $12.00. It was in the "new releases" section. Listening to it now... :)

That's a drag. Can you order it from Amazon or another online retailer?

bwehehehe 08-21-2015 06:34 PM

TBTN snippet sounds like the closest BJ has ever been to an EDM song. Also has a Coldplay touch in it, which is why it reminded me of Sky Full of Stars.

Wow, that's harsh. I'm guessing most people don't really listen to how guitar sounds/feel and is written.
Whomever recorded/played guitar was nowhere near or better than Richie. Sure wasn't PhilX because at least that would be quality playing, if not still different than Richie.

It is painfully obvious that Richie isn't on this album, and that really makes this a Jon solo album. Tico and David are just session players anyways.

All that said, it's not a terrible album. But it ain't no BonJovi.

united17 08-21-2015 06:42 PM

I'm sure it's been touched upon before but man Burning Bridges (the song) really sounds like a f**k you to Richie, whether he intended it to be so or not - that's definitely how it comes across - a few tweaks to the lyrics (for relevance) and I'd happily play it to my ex.

I know it was in Asda in Liverpool today as I was in HMV and Dad text me to say it was a little bit more expensive when he was in Asda.

Loads of copies in HMV. Right as you walk in they were there and then a few more to the left on the stands.

It's currently number 7 on iTunes UK album chart. I'd be surprised if this done well, though. It's a shame because it's a good album.

Exactly how and where? Did you listen to the lyrics? It's definitely aimed at the record company.

Think about two lines in particular.

"Here is one last song you can sell"....can't be directed at Richie.
"I'll give you half the publishing that's why I wrote this song"...again, can't be at Richie.

It's almost impossible to import stuff on Argentina, leaving aside the taxes, you need to go to the AFIP (a government agency) and register yourself as an importer, then the record won't be sent to your house but you'll have to travel to Ezeiza and go to the Aduana, spend all day there because of the unbearable bureaucracy, pay 50% of the value of whatever you bought (+35% of credit card taxes), and then you'll have your CD. If you're lucky.

I'll pass and wait until it's available here... or until 12/31 that they'll open up the importations again.

Old Joysey 08-21-2015 08:32 PM

It's doing very well on Amazon France:
Album category: #4
MP3: #1

Please note that when you buy the physical CD (€16,99) you automatically get the MP3 version for free as well. Is it the same in your country?

Only 2 customers reviewed it, to sum it up they said it was terrible and a rip-off.

All that to buy 1 little item! It sounds like it would be easier and quicker to buy a ticket and take a vacation to another country. Hopefully it will be available there soon, or 12/31 comes quickly for you.

@BonJoviTalk all the guitars on the record I played.

That can't be true. The guitars in 'I'm your man' just scream JBJ. Shanks plays a lot better than that, and his note choices is a lot more varied judging by the other tracks.....

Summer 08-21-2015 10:38 PM

Folks, I'm trapped by Fingerprints. Can't move forward or backwards. Gives me a Santa Fe Feeling, which is good ☺ especially the ground melody of the 1st guitar solo.

No, it's not terrible. And Jon is not trying to fool anyone either. He's not about F-ing Dave or Tico over or he might have released this as a JBJ solo album. With no promotional backing, keeping the Bon Jovi name or calling it a solo album really doesn't matter. I'm sure, at least for him it doesn't.

Jon had an obligation to fulfill and put out an album of songs. Regardless of what some might think, Jon is not one to throw shit on an album and say here you go. Some might think that's the end result but that's not Jon's initial intention.

I'm still waiting to digest this album before I give my final review. So far I'd say I'm really enjoying all of these tracks including the bonus track. This was definitely a surprise album and I'm shocked to say the least. I'm even enjoying the fillers. When I go to the beach or pool, I put this on shuffle and all these songs are extremely enjoyable.

Not a bad and unexpected 2015. 11 songs from BB, Beautiful Day, Reunion, and heck, even the Chinese song. 15 new songs in total! I'll take it. Looking forward to next year. Hopefully a big tour to follow. Oh wait, we have to get through Richie's album next. I won't hold my breath for that one.

You wouldn't have to go to the airport for a CD I don't think, more likely to the central post office in Retiro. You would likely end up getting a single disc just fine, although you would kill your morning/day waiting for it not to mention the extra cash to get it.

Just writing it makes me angry at how shit it is to get things into this country. I do a yearly trip to the UK and just stock the **** up.
