How Should Jon and The Band Go Out?
These types of topics arise ever so often and as more members continue to drop off in combination with Jon's vocal issues, the reality might be sooner rather than later.
Here's what I'd like to see: Once Tico is done, I'd like to see Jon and Dave go out the way they came in, together. I'd like to see Jon and Dave form a jam band, similar to ACE which was more or less a SSJ knock off band. NOT The KOS... A fun late 70's style bar band. Who knows where Jon's voice will stand in 10 years but I'd like for them to do something outside the scope of Bon Jovi. If Jon can't do the Bon Jovi songs with justice anymore, I don't want to hear them. I think a loud, horn section band where Jon's not singing the entire time would be cool. A bunch of originals, maybe a few covers. I'd like to see that for a couple years. Maybe two albums with 2 tours and then I'd like to see a real Bon Jovi reunion as a real farewell tour.... The original 5 members in the front with the fill in members in the back. A 65 year old JBJ with all the members from start to finish. After that, Jon could do the Barry Manilow / Christmas Album style type of solo stuff. He'll probably sound like Tico by that point. If you ever heard his father speak, he's got that Tico style rasp and Jon is slowing getting there. |

If Richie truly is gone, Bon Jovi's status as premium brand is, too -- which this tour is proving well beyond a reasonable doubt. But that doesn't HAVE to be a bad thing.
If Jon wishes to keep performing without decaying either his legacy or his fan base, he should give Tico and Dave a pension because he won't be able to afford them anymore, change the name of the band to Jon Bon Jovi and Friends, hire expendable KOS-style journeymen, and hope he can close out his career in small- to medium-sized venues. Paul McCartney is having no problem filling large venues on name recognition alone -- but then again, half The Beatles are dead and people don't blame him for breaking them up. |
They should spend 4-5 years completely out of the spotlight (no shows, albums, nothing) to build some anticipation and then give one last lengthy tour, obviously with Richie.
Funny thing is, the first part of my plan I believe is more unrealistic :D |
IN A BLAZE OF GLORY... ba da bing.
They should keep going as long as they want until they want to call it a day. I don't believe that their status as a great band is gone without Richie. Burning Bridges is one of the best albums they've released in 20 years. Getting older, they may not be able to tour as much, but if they can continue to make albums that are THAT good, they should make albums like that until they fall over dead from whatever naturally kills them in their very, very old ages. |

I know I'm in the minority here and a lot of people are counting on one day when they decide to call it quits to then have one of those big farewell tours. But I wouldn't want that, I'd like for them to never have a farewell tour. Have then end it not saying goodbye or anything, just like another tour. Probably won't happen but still, I'd like that to happen.

They should go on a farewell tour and get Richie AND Alec back for it.
No scabs allowed in that tour. |
