Have a Nice Day - 10 years on.

I thought this was a pretty good read, there's some stuff about the record that I didn't know before like how Last Man Standing was inspired by the death of Johnny Cash.Amazing the album is already 10 years old....

That was a good read. Thanks.

Loved the Smirk-mania!

A Backstager swears she found this while shopping for sweet potatoes:

And after the voting beatdown they got from us, Ultimate Classic Rock had BETTER write nice things about Bon Jovi, LOL!

Very nice read. I didn't know that "these open arms" was covered by other artist. And what a beautiful version!! I always loved that song, and the cover is very good too.
A shame that "Nothing" was never released in great quality..one of
the best perfomance from Jon in the recent years.

It wasn't. Cash died in September 2003, Last Man Standing had been written before that. It was written with Bob Dylan in mind. The writer of this article has his facts mixed up, like usual.

I was surprised to see ultimateclassicrock have an in-depth article on the band like that, but kind of knew within a few paragraphs that it had to be written by him. He's a good writer but always exaggerates and overrates the output of the band, trying to make more of it than it really is just to be able to justify how great the band in his eyes is. His fanboy-ism always ruins his articles.

All right thanks! Didn't know the Bob Dylan inspiration either. It struck me odd that the article finished like that, " Unfortunately, it also clear now that this album marked the end of an era, as the band’s focus seemed to shift more towards touring in support of their massive catalog". The first leg of that tour in the states was crazy with promoting the album, often having up to 8 songs of the album almost every night, but after with Lost Highway they did almost the same thing. Even performing the album in its entirety some nights. I think the focus maybe shifted after 'the circle' when they started playing 2 to 4 new songs a night and the show that got more were few and far between...

After reading that I knew whom the article was from, even before checking it - and I was right :D

more details:

Quote:

"Last Man Standing is from an observation I made on tour," said Bon Jovi. "It's about the state of the music business. I imagined myself as a carnival huckster standing outside a carnival tent. I'm bringing people in to see the freak show, because he's the last man standing.

"I think I was venting a little too much of my anger at the record industry these days which is a mere shell of the thing that I loved. And, um, in this day and age, I feel bad for the 20-year-old kid that was going to walk in through the doorway of a radio station the way I did when I was a young man in Jersey, because these days, they've got these machines programming these radio stations and the DJ is out on the street looking for work and the record companies are giving the stuff away and they're becoming one, one big old, big brother machine. And so, maybe I'm a little bitter, but I don't think there's going to be too many kids that are going to sell a hundred million albums in their lives anymore. So until this rotten business figures out who the hell they are, this is for the last heroes left; the Elton Johns, the Bob Dylans, and Bruce and Petty and Bon Jovi.”

They played 7 songs of What About Now the first shows of the tour, and even rehearsed others that they never got to played like Beautiful World. But everyone complained about the high ammount of new songs and they just stopped doing it.

I complained too, but not for the new songs but because of what songs: would've loved if Beautiful World, Pictures of You or Room At The End of The World were played. I'm With You was played very rarely and was one of the greatest songs on the record IMO. Also, they accompanied a lot of new songs with Captain, Follow, and others that lowered a lot the show quality.

About Have A Nice Day, I can't believe that it's been 10 years since it was released! This was the first Bon Jovi album that I looked forward to get released, and looked information about. I was really excited and I absolutely loved it when I heard it for the first time. I still like it a lot!
