And Al should be quite pleased -- I remember Rolling Stone complaining that Slippery When Wet's bass lines "whin(ed) like spoiled children!" :p

It's a decent discussion that is actually about the music <gasp>.

Maybe we should forward it to Dave Marsh... :p

For all the praise it gets, isn't the bassline in the verses the same as the guitar riff?

The riff in the verses, yeah, but the bass line is way more complex than the chords the guitar is playing, I think that's more what the article is saying.

Also weird to see Hugh getting credit for pre-These days material, I know we all know, just different to see articles about it.

Yeah, the chorus riff is a lot more complex; lots of movement and even some bluesy/chromatic notes in there. I think I remember Prayer's chorus being structured similarly.

And I guess music mags know about Hugh and the weight he pulls. People usually talk about KTF, but the stuff he does on the simpler tracks to keep them exciting is spectacular.

If I'm not mistaken it was recorded by Alec

You're most likely mistaken.

Hugh had recorded the bass lines for the albums from the beginning with the exception of the Fahrenheit album.
