Olli, the lead singer from Bounce, made a live stream on FB today (can be accessed without an account there as well), taking requests from fans and playing them acoustically on the spot. A lot of Jovi songs were in there as well:

Couldn't find a Box Set specific thread, so adding this here. Feel free to move. It's a long post so bear with me...
Been listening to 100,000,000 fans quite abit recently, and I've been splitting the tracks up into specific eras, but have a few queries....the dates come from the list that Obi posted years ago. Would appreciate any thoughts on these. 1985: We Rule The Night - Would this make it a 7800 demo do we think, or could it be a late 1985 Demo for Slippery? 1986: Out Of Bounds Edge Of A Broken Heart - Obviously Slippery outtakes 1991: If I Can't Have Your Love - Listed as a Stranger In This Town outtake and I know that the track was demoed in a full electric version for that album, but this Piano version doesn't seem to be in a style that matches the Stranger sessions. And Richie's voice also sounds older to me. I think that this might have been recorded specifically for the box set in the same way that David recorded Memphis. Thoughts? 1992: The Radio Save My Life Tonight Taking It Back Miss Fourth Of July Starting All Over Again Every Beat Of My Heart Outlaws Of Love Sympathy Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word Billy - All obviously Keep The Faith demos (I know there is speculation that Outlaws is older...) 1993: Gotta Have A Reason - This is the only track from 1993. I presume that they weren't yet writing for the next album...so what was this for? Just something they came up with one day? 1994/1995: Always (Demo) Someday I'll Be Saturday Night (Demo) Why Aren't You Dead? Open All Night I Just Want To Be Your Man The Fire Inside Good Guys Don't Always Wear White Only In My Dreams Lonely at The Top Flesh & Bone Letter To A Friend Nobody's Hero - This stuff would be a combination of Cross Road and These Days sessions, along with some soundtrack stuff. Does anyone know if any of this stuff was specifically worked on for Cross Road (as alternatives to Always, Someday) or if they were specifically worked on for These Days. I know Good Guys was for The Cowboy Way. 1996: I Get A Rush Someday Might Just Be Tonight River Runs Dry - I presume that these were Destination Anywhere demos? Or was there a period when another BJ record was planned after These Days? 1997: Shut Up And Kiss Me All I Wanna Do It You - These two are odd to me, as they were recorded when Jon was in full Destination Anywhere mode, but both are co-written with Richie. Were these early writting sessions for the next band album? Band or solo demos? 1998: These Arms Are Open All Night Last Chance Train Rich Man Living In A Poor Man's House Crazy Love - Demos for the follow up to Destination Anywhere, which eventually became a band album? 1999: Garageland Maybe Someday The One That Got Away You Can Sleep While I Dream Satellite Real Life Too Much Of A Good Thing Kidnap An Angel Ordinary People Tempation - So these would be Sex Sells demos, which eventually became Crush? Does anyone know which of these feature the band and which are JBJ demos? I know Real Life was for EDTV and The One That Got Away was also meant for a movie. 2002: Breathe - We know this was for Bounce 2003: Thief Of Hearts Last Man Standing Memphis Lives In Me - This Left Feels Right, with Memphis being done specificlaly for the Box Set. Appreciate anyone's thoughts on the above. |
My thoughts (Also a long one, haha)
"If I can't have your love" was absolutely positively re-recorded for this. Richie's voice in 2003/2004 took on this lower husk (you can really hear it in "I wake up with you by my side.....) I've always placed Why Aren't You Dead at 1991 but there's really very little to support that. Once Seb brought up how close it was to I'll Sleep When I'm Dead that kind of moved it in my mind to 1991. The 1996/1997 songs make no sense to me, due to Richie's involvement. Shut Up and Kiss Me clearly has the Big Dogs and Bobby on guitar while All I Wanna Do Is You has Richie playing and singing on it so I've placed that at 1999 in my head, ditto Someday Just Might Be Tonight. If AIWDIY was actually recorded that early, the organ part came after and was most likely recorded by Jeff Kazee in 2004. The 1998 songs would have been recorded solo by Jon for Sex Sells, the 1999 songs listed are a mix: Band: Garageland Maybe Someday The One That Got Away You Can Sleep While I Dream Satellite Real Life Too Much Of A Good Thing Ordinary People Solo: Kidnap An Angel Temptation is the odd man out here. Because 2000 had a lot of Jon solo songs repurposed as band songs the origins of the original b-side version of Temptation could have been either. The box set version absolutely has Bobby on guitar and what feels like backing vocals so I personally believe it was repurposed for the box set. |
Aloha !
1. Several songs are hard to pin down because the band have re-recorded stuff. Obie confirmed this at the time of the release of the box-set. It's why a lot of the songs have a similar sound while they're not from the same era. 2. Yes, there were record sessions in 1993. 3. Yes, after Destination Anywhere a third solo album was planned. 4. If I Can't Have Your Love was indeed recorded during the recording of Stranger. The demo was around long before the box set was released. The version on the box set is recorded for the box set. 5. Some of the demo's for what was supposed to be Jon's third solo album (Hush, Older, These Arms Are Open All Night, Rich Man Living In A Poor Man's House, Crazy Love, All I Wanna Do Is You, Shut Up And Kiss Me and Life's Too Short For Days Like These were supposed to be on there) have been (partially) re-recorded by the band. The Fire Inside always sounded super grey summer to me.

I think a good portion of the Box was rerecorded in some way (not just specific to vocals but instrumentation too)... which is the one thing that truly disappoints me about it.
The listening party Sex Sells tracks are so much better from the listening party. There is a huge difference between the way Jon sang and made music post and pro the year 2000. Sent from my HTC6535LVW using Tapatalk |
