Richie. You can really hear it at a very specific part where it kind of stops...? The HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-EH-HOOOOOOOO if that makes sense. Compare that to his falsetto in "If I can't Have Your Love", I'm pretty sure it's him.

No doubt in my mind that it's Richie. His sound is all over it. Besides that, I can't imagine why Bobby would have recorded just the Hoooos, when Richie's doing the harmonies throughout the rest of the song; or why Bobby wouldn't have done them in the shows if he had done them originally.

I also noticed Richie doesn't do it live with everyone else (as far as I recall) but it's probably pretty hard to sing falsetto and play that guitar part? I don't know. But I don't for a second think Bobby was involved in the recording of any non-box set song vocally.

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a show where he didn't sing it. But I don't remember watching that many videos of them doing it, either. It was just an assumption based on the ones I've seen.

EDIT: Sonofagun! I just watched several different videos and noticed that Richie didn't sing the Hoooos in all of them. Bobby did one when Richie wasn't there; and one where he and Richie both did them; and the others were pretty much an equal split between Richie or Lorenza. Live and learn! :D

Hah, I learned something too! I don't for a second think Jon did it on the record. He so rarely uses falsetto after a certain point and it just sounds so much like Richie's style to me at least.

I don't think Richie is on the song as much as you all think... It's definitely Richie on the "We Should Be" lyric but a lot of the harmonies are Jon backing himself up.

Are you sure? I ran it through a vocal-isolater plugin and it sounds like Richie the whole way through. The "I could write a couple liiiines" is a dead giveaway. 2:08 forward is without question Richie. The first half I'm not positive.

You've touched on one of the reasons Jon's voice is gone. He only really used his chest voice to get to high notes, never going properly into head voice or falsetto.

Lyrics, Yes! But I bet Jon overdubbed himself with harmonies after.

Just listened to it the whole way through, the main backing vocal throughout is clearly Richie to my ears. He has a certain raspyness to his voice that neither Jon or Bobby have. Bobby does do a decent Richie type vocal at times, but his voice is smoother and definitely lacks the rasp. Jon's original rasp disappeared over the years as he changed his singing style.

Even the ooo's at the end sound like Richie to me on a closer listen, but could be Bobby. I think Cap's comparison of If I Can't Have Your Love is a good call.
