Yovana, meh we get complaints time to time that you keep derailing threads with conversations (mainly with guess who). It's annoying but end of the day it's not really BANNABLE. Frankly if it's in the anything thread and it tires you guys out have at it haha.

But this supposed to be the "anything" related to Bon Jovi thread?

It has turned into the Rd/Yovana flirting thread.

Please move this shit show to the NBJ forum.

Don’t worry, I will be posting Jovi things here
but the day you’re US, You make the rules here!, okay?

Captain_jovi 11-17-2018 12:43 AM

I completely forgot what sub forum this was in, that's my bad.

Please keep it on topic to be about the band. I'd rather give out temp bannings then have to move posts or delete the posts and then delete the posts about how people don't care. Not worth my time. Seriously people, please stop.

Seems that there's no American format calendar this year on the store: https://www.bonjoviofficialmerch.com.../2019-calendar
(UK and USA calendars used to be different...)

and it says: "the iconic rock band including Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan and Tico Torres" jojoj

Good interview with David. Sounds like he had a really big hand in the making of the This House....record. It might not have been as much of a solo album as people say. Jon might have been right.

Well, isn't that interesting. When was it, again, that Phil-X was made an official member? And what about Hugh?

Captain_jovi 11-17-2018 05:34 AM

Can't figure out if it's lazy copywork or means something more. I still don't think they were made "official" (I mean in my mind it's all bull. They probably got a raise and are involved in photos but I don't believe their role in the band increased one bit)

THINFS (song) was written and initially recorded by JBJ, Shanks and Billy Falcon...
THINFS (album) is when David plays a "more expansive role without Richie Sambora"
DB: "OK, I'm going to do everything I can to fill that void. I worked my brain to death to come up with all the stuff that would equal a successful hit record."
JBJ: "Richie's exit gave Dave the opportunity to grow. I've got these 10 songs, we're going to go in and cut these."
DB: "I immediately go to the piano with the new book I always start for a new record, and I start charting the chords, so I have something that we take to the studio. We'd been in the habit on the last couple of records of doing backwards, where you've got the song and you add the drums, add the bass, add the other keyboards. I said, why don't we start it out like we used to? Get in a room and look at each other, and bash out the songs? And we did. We'd all sit around the piano, and I would play through a song. Them we'd get in the room and hash it out, and it was basically up to me, with a lot of input from John Shanks. A song has a line, whether it's a keyboard riff or a guitar riff or both, and he and I were just trying to come up with that line in a fun, creative way. What's based on that melody? What's that one lick that will make this thing work? What can we switch around? Maybe the tempo's wrong? It was really fun and collaborative. I knew the record was something special. Listen, this is a big record."
JBJ: "Ah, you never know."

Obviously, it's all bull. They're all Jon's employees anyway (incl. David and Tico), but the official presentation to the public still matters.

I'm curious, for anyone who bought the physical copy of THINFS - is there a 'members' section in the album artwork? How does it describe involvement of Hugh and Phil? Is there a distinction between them and John Shanks credits as a musician (who's supposedly not a member still)?

Lead Guitarist with Bon Jovi doesn't sound quite the same as Lead Guitarist OF Bon Jovi. Am I reaching too hard and nitpicking the word choice?

There isn't actually a list of band members in this one, it just lists all of the people that perform on the album and what they do in this order.
JBJ
DB
TT
Hugh
Phil
Shanks
Lorenza Ponce
Amy Ralske
Thomas Dutton
Carl Falk

However - Tico, David, Phil, hugh and JBJ all get their own "Thank You" section in that order...

Captain_jovi 11-17-2018 04:30 PM

Could anyone take a photo of this? I wish the iTunes release came with a pdf of the booklet.

Very curious what

Lorenza Ponce
Amy Ralske
Thomas Dutton
Carl Falk

contributed. I think Lorenza did the string work and arranged Real Love, that might be that.

Thanks!

It seems like they're blurring the line on purpose, but if that question gets raised, the band supposedly officially has 5 members.

There's isn't a "members" section; the last page of the booklet insert just lists the album credits.

Produced by John Shanks and Jon Bon Jovi
Jon Bon Jovi: lead vocals
David Bryan: keyboards, background vocals
Tico Torres: drums
Hugh McDonald: bass
Phil X: guitar, background vocals
John Shanks: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, programming, background vocals

There are obviously a lot more credits than that, but those are the ones relating to what you're asking about.

Inside the back part of the plastic CD case that actually holds the CD there's a "Thank You" page. Tico, David, Phil, Hugh, and Jon (in that order) each have their own section listing the people they thank. Jon wrote "Tico, Lema and Hugh" pretty early in his list, with Phil X listed about 30 people later after his nieces and nephews. At the very end he wrote "And especially my THANKS to Mike Rew, Katie Agresta and John Shanks"

I'm not sure they even got that. I just remember an interview with Phil (and the band, apparently) when he was asked if he was an official member now and Phil said something like, "well, Jon's nodding, so I guess that would be a yes." That seemed like such an impulsive thing, not to mention the informal way that Phil was notified of his "official" status. And I don't think I've heard anything yet about Hugh being an official member.

Rdkopper 11-17-2018 10:02 PM

You guys are looking way too into it... Haven't you learned anything from the Alec and Huge thing?

Richie isn't coming back and Phil is the man as long as he takes Jon's shit and doesn't do him dirty.

Phil might show up in a video or on a tee-shirt but the current official members of Bon Jovi are Jon, Tico, Dave...

Phil and Huge are probably contracted for life with some very specific clauses... and probably the reason why he doesn't know how to answer the 'are you in Bon Jovi?' question.

The more Phil becomes seasoned with each tour, the more value he holds towards Jon... Even five years from now, two albums later, the last thing Jon will want is to break in a new guitar player so I'm sure Phil is more than just some hired gun from tour to tour... A 55 year old JBJ can afford a ten year contract with Phil...

Two albums that Phil barely played on though! Until Jon lets Phil take the reigns in the studio and play on a whole record, then the talk of Phil being a full on member is just rubbish. He really needs to let Phil loose in the studio...

Captain_jovi 11-18-2018 02:02 AM

Yup. We'd be looking too much into it if there was no mention of them being official members. The fact that they made a big deal about it means it's up for speculation and it feels very smoke and mirrors. If Phil ain't playing on the entire next album, to me it's just lip service.

YOVANAfromPeru 11-18-2018 04:38 AM

Then, you’re basically saying Phil X is a touring musician
Phil X said he would like to write songs with JBJ: https://twitter.com/TheRealPhilX/sta...58227143614464
so by easy discard we can say that JBJ does not allow it (besides Phil X has said something about it in interviews)
other thing we know is the 4 walls of The House represent the members of the band: JBJ, DB, TT and RS
I wonder... what would be the name of the next record???

BTW Recent quote of JBJ: “There are a lot of men out there who have not embraced the real them... So, yes, I’ll embrace the grey hair - but I won’t become fat Elvis.”
Zzzz...

Captain_jovi 11-18-2018 04:41 AM

We don't know if he'd allow it because it hasn't hit that point. Time will tell what his role in the band is and the next cycle will show how much of an official member he is. Right now it feels like he's one step above Bobby, one level below Richie role wise.

Big Dog Bobby? Captain Crash Richie?
nah I disagree...

Captain_jovi 11-18-2018 03:07 PM

Why's that? Bobby didn't appear in the videos, appeared sporadically on the music but was more used live. Phil is one step above by being on the merch, photos and music videos but with not much creative pull outside his solos and appears on 1/4 of the new album. That feels one step above to me and one step below the whole shebang of having any creative control.

Playing on albums and Playing live are two different animals due to publishing... Once upon a time ago, Huge played on albums and Alec played live... Today Shanks plays on Albums and Phil plays live (although Shanks begged Jon to join this current tour, I don't think it supposed to be that way). Phil is adaptable and can really learn to play anything so he doesn't need him in the studio when his producer can play the parts... Phil's main purpose is to play on all the stuff pre Shanks... All those 80 and 90 hit songs, when solos were meaningful, are his golden ticket...

Like I previously stated, this is Phil's gig for a very long time... I seriously doubt Jon will run the risk of him walking out at his own free will... So no Phil, you're not an official member but yes, you're in this band for life... kind of a tough question to answer...

Slightly off topic but...
One interesting thing that Bobby said one time that I never took too serious but now looking back, I wonder...

It was during the WAN tour (or BWC or whatever that thing was called lol).. but I saw him play at some local gig in NJ with his solo band and he was just rambling on to the audience as he usually does with his gibberish but he's like 'Yeah, I have to go tour with Bon Jovi next week' (very unenthusiastic about it) and then continued to repeat 'Bon Jovi Jail'... I never put a thought into it but for starters, he didn't seem super excited about it but second, he was most likely was contracted to go and that's why he called it 'Bon Jovi Jail'

Phil X photo appears on July month in the calendars when used to be Richie because his birthday... that makes you Richie? I don’t think so...
and about Bobby, “Bon Jovi Jail” jajajajajaj
That sounded to me like: I want your soul, can you sign here? under the $$$$
JBJ is always saying about the NJ tour thing: “We won't let ourselves get in that position again.”
But it seems Richie and Bobby and maybe all of them wanted that “time to stop for a break”

Supposedly he is JBJ's security, President of the Fan Club, designer of some store merchandise and even clothes for JBJ.
Since last year, Runaway Tours is part of the On Location Experiences (official source for VIP experiences at marquee NFL events - including the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, International Series, NFL Draft and more). He also has said before that Runaway Tours merged with a huge organization.
And well there are the cruises, too.
Maybe he was talking about that, who knows?
