Richie says he will rejoin Bon Jovi for just one show
in an interview for a brazilian tabloid, he said that he talked to Jon recently and that all is well between them. Also, he added that he will rejoin the band, but just for a special one-off performance.
Here's the link in portuguese. http://musica.uol.com.br/noticias/re...ie-sambora.htm |
Interesting Quotes:
" I talked to him [Jon Bon Jovi] a few weeks ago. It's all right between us. No hard feelings. We will return one day, maybe for a special presentation," says Sambora to UOL , in a telephone interview. It will be just "one thing at a show only, a charity festival, something like that." "I've been in the band for 30 years. And, honestly, I was not feeling very inspired by the way that music was going. It was something different from what I wanted," says the musician, who credits the exit on routine recordings and uninterrupted touring." |
It's what I've been saying all along... Bon Jovi has become the JBJ / John Shanks show... Jon's just writing boring songs to fit his boring voice. They lack energy & passion. It's digitized choppy overproduction... The end result isn't horrible, it's just not the Bon Jovi that brought most of us all here...
Although I don't condone the way Sambora left the band, I also don't blame him for doing so... He should have finished the last 6 to 8 months of the tour and then left... He would have saved a lot of fans if he did so... I guess that the rock star way of going on strike... |
Id like to hear Jons side of the conversation
RS - Do one more show yeah? JB - No RS - so thats a maybe? JB - No RS - Cool, that would be good JB hangs up RS - Jon? Jon? Strange. Well at least theres that one off to look forward to! Mental. |

So would I.... and still using this line - . "We had two weeks off in 30 years." Something could be lost in translation but not the first time a similar remark has been made. |
Except that's not what he's saying at all, is it....
He's basically saying that he's sure he will play a show with them again one day down the line, but it would just be a one off, he wouldn't go back full time.... It's not like he's begging to do another show, and judging from his other quotes in the interview it's not high on his list any time soon.... Quote:

Agreed with the above. People are making it sound like he's saying there's a show lined up. Sounds like he's saying if he were to ever play with the band it'd be a one off, probably for charity or something.
|
If they'll ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame they'll probably appear together one more time. I guess he was referring to something of that kind.

Anything to avoid a replay of what happened with former Pantera bandmates Dimebag Darrell and Phil Anselmo -- which is less likely if such a fan is publicly reassured by Jon and Richie that they don't hate each other.
The rapper Drake recently cancelled all his VIP fan meet and greets. Of course, with one of his feet firmly planted in the hiphop underworld, he has to worry about jealous fans of rival rappers as well as deranged ones! |
i d like to know who called who and in what occasion. i bet it was richie. i anticipate the future releases but truth be told the new album wont be true bj for me, it simply cant be without richie on board. i believe it will probably be good but not classic bj.richie was an integral part.
two facts, richie wanted to come back for the stadium europe leg, jon obviously refused and since then richie comments he isnt looking forward coming back...in an ideal world richie would like to play the high profile gigs come and go as he pleases. jon is a businesman but i cant believe he doesnt miss richie at all, they both made mistakes but what looks childish to me is that after all these years etc etc they havent met in person to resolve this...they have talked a couple times in the phone but none of them said lets straight this out regardlless if we play again in the future. surely there is some bad blood still but i hope if they ever met they d work it out. ps,as the bj machine is about to start again there wil be more and more questions about the matter, the same goes for richie who seems to want to capitilize on the bj promoting wave by releasing sth close to the bj release. a move that doesnt flatter him imo if proven true. |

That's don't make sense at all. Terdrop TTSea is more inpiring than whole Aftermath and WWYDie For is more creativy than that album. I don't get this version from Richie. |
Like it or dislike it, I still think Aftermath has more guitar breaks than the average Jovi song. It's still poppy but what were people expecting from him, death metal? To me the arrangements and guitar parts were fresher but the lyrics are still (mostly) vanilla as all heck.

Maybe something like Christina Grimmie's murder was a wake up call to both of them (and I'm speculating just as much as the rest of you), not just to how some deranged fan could try to settle whatever score he thought existed between them but to how fragile life and relationships are. In my life, I've found that when you've been friends with someone for 30 years, you pick up the phone, even after a few years have passed, and you pick up where you left off. |

Stranger didn't sell well and it was bluesy. Undiscovered Soul was FAR more contemporary with the current music scene, less bluesy and didn't sell. Aftermath had even less blues and the same issue. I'm not saying blues isn't his true passion, I just think Stranger's bombing effected the way he puts out music. The same way the double whammy personal lyrics of These Days and Destination Anywhere's lack of sales for Jon gave us Crush.

Live songs from Aftermath grow. More Rocker. More energy. More passion. We Dont Run from Burning Bridges is poor in live shows. The reaction of the audience is evident. I like some songs of Burning Bridges, but is nothing new, there are some interesting things, but not their best effort. I can only say that as a whole is more interesting than What About Now, and that the best of both would have been a worthy of The Circle successor. |
Aftermath is better than Burning Bridges and What About Now, it is still a poor record though. It has more guitar for sure, but it is the same generic playing that has been in Bon Jovi for years, just more of it.
Aftermath, especially the guitar playing, highlights that Richie was a big problem in the way Bon Jovi's sound went too. There isn't an inspired piece of guitar music on the album, even the dearly held (by some) Seven Years. Richie has never been a master blues player, so making blues albums would result in him falling flat on his face. Stranger is very blues based, but place it next to a record from SRV, Clapton, BB King, or any of the blues greats and it falls way short. That said, it was an excellent album taken on merit coming from an 80s player who many thought was just another show off. Richie at his flashiest and most dynamic = 80s Richie at one with his guitar and most creative = 90s Richie on a downhill spiral of generic playing, recycling poor phrases and licks, and using a sloppy fretting hand = 2002-present. |

I just wish Shanks would leave the guitar playing to Phil X.
The crowd just didn't know the song WDR like they do older Bon Jovi songs so they didn't react to it as they do the older songs. Personally I love WDR. And somehow I don't see Richie coming back for one show. |
John shanks could be better guitarplayer on studio than Phil when referring to guitar solos. Who Would You Die For and fingerprints have very good taste, love the guitar solo. Even WDR has a better solo in studio than in live shows with Mr X.
Richie could return for something specific, like Alec in giant stadium 2001. |
While, I'm not a Fan on Shanks as a producer, I was actually really impressed with his playing on Burning Bridges. Some of the solos were great! I've not seen anything by Phil X yet that has convinced me he could have come up with something better....
