Labour of Love lyrics

[Verse 1]
Smoke stack blowing, there's a fire in the sky
Fahrenheit rising, oh, higher than high
Pressure's building up, sparks are gonna fly
I know where this is going when I look into your eyes
I know where this is going when I look into your eyes

Sweet sweat's rolling down the middle of your spine
Bodies move together, perfect rhythm and time
Baby say my name, I'll write yours in the sky
Higher than a rocket in the fourth of July
Higher than a rocket in the fourth of July
[Pre-Chorus]
It's good, it's good, it's good to be alive

[Chorus]
Its a full time job, the work's never done
Twenty-four seven, it's a labor of love
Yeah, everything I got, it's all about us
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love

[Verse 2]
Only fools count treasure in silver and gold
I don't want for nothing that these hands can hold
If you need something done, put it on the list
And if I need some sugar, I'll get it from your lips
If I need some sugar, I'll get it from your lips

[Pre-Chorus]
It's good, it's good, it's good to be alive

[Chorus]
Its a full time job, the work's never done
Twenty-four seven, it's a labor of love
Yeah, everything I got, it's all about us
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love

[Bridge]
One taste of your lips, every night, every day
I know every curve, but it's never the same
If love is a fire, I'll go down in flames
I wanna die in your arms, hearing you say my name
I wanna die in your arms, hearing you say my name
I wanna die in your arms, hearing you say my name

[Chorus]
Its a full time job, the work's never done
Twenty-four seven, it's a labor of love
Yeah, everything I got, it's all about us
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love
Its a full time job, the work's never done
Twenty-four seven, it's a labor of love
Give everything I've got, I can't get enough
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love
Baby this ain't working, it's a labor of love

Like most, I miss the guitar solo. However, I'm missing the backing vocals more and I'm not talking Richie, where is David for example?

One show appearance was fine, nothing dramatic although they missed burning bridges in the albums at the start.

What a mish mash... Vaguely these days in atmosphere and lyrics, a sexy bass line and jons low purr in the verse vs his more soaring vocals in the chorus. However, I think this song cries out for better guitar work. Either a drawn out but slow paced solo or just somthing more empassioned in the background.

Overall, chocolate for ears... But some people are lactose intolerant.

Style-wise, this seems to be a mixture of Teardrop and Room At The End Of The World, which I can dig. It shows some progress for the band's sound, so that's cool.

I like it. I don't love it. I really like the repeated line at the end of every chorus. Jon sounds good, though I do agree sometimes it is hard to understand what he is saying. I love the intro chords.

Worst part for me is the lyrics in the chorus. It reminds me of I Could Make a Living Out of Loving You, and I hate those lyrics! I would have actually preferred if the chorus didn't lift as much as it does. I much prefer the verses over the chorus (usually it's the other way around for me).

The bridge of the song is typical Jovi.

Overall, I like it more than I hate it. I'm happy enough with it.

If I'm comparing it to other Jovi songs, I'd say Lonely mixed with She's a Mystery. (I LOVE Lonely and despise She's a Mystery haha).

So, before I come to the song itself, I have to say that it bugs me a little that I always hear the song at last, so it seems, although I live in a country in which a new day begins one of the earliest. But, well, I guess that's my fault, as I have to get up relatively early and am a person who needs rather much sleep :D

So, regarding Labor of Love...

+ It's a a moody song, like that vibe.
+ The repeated line at the end of the chorus got me, too.
+ The production is fairly good.
+ The voice, especially in the verses, sounds quite good...
+ Particularly the "It's good to be alive line", I like that a lot

- But the voice in the chorus is so thin and plain...
- The whole song falls a bit flat, imo, there could have been done more
- The chorus kicking in all of a sudden after the break feels wrong.
- I'm not a fan of that lazy fade-out; I think a bit of better guitar work on that part could have saved a lot (and I don't even think this song needs a "real" solo in the middle part or so).

In addition to Lonely, SIBSN and She's A Mystery, this song also reminds me a bit of Blind Love. Don't ask me why, just got the feel. Era-wise, it could indeed be almost everywhere, I would say somewhere between TD and Crush, but one of the weaker ones of this era. And Richie vocals could have indeed done miracles to this chorus - or changed it entirely, or destroyed it, I don't know.
And in my book it is a ballad, but this doesn't have to be a bad thing. I like well-made ballads. At the moment, I'm not so sure about Labor of Love, though. It's certainly not a bad song, and better than most off WAN, but nothing great or even groundbreaking. Would take Teardrop over this any time.
If I had to rate Labor of Love amongst the other songs we've heard so far, it would be last after Knockout, but only very closely. THINFS still on "top", but this "top" only being a relative one, as THINFS isn't a great song imo, either. But I'm still optimistic, would say Labor of Love could be a great album track and hope for some really nice songs on this album. With guitar solos ;)

I think Labor Of Love is absolutely fantastic... So much better than the first two singles... I'd take an album of this...

Rdkopper 09-23-2016 05:38 AM

Seriously people... This song might rival Teardrop... Best song to date hands-down between both albums... Beyond Excellent!!!
