i guess it has thousand meaning rather than Richie Sambora in my opinion..
it could be ghost where the fans expect him to be a Slippery When Wet Jon, 80's Jon etc...it just ET made it up i guess

it may has more than one meanings but jon clearly stated you know who the ghost in the song refers to...so i think its straightforward Richie was the inspiration behind the lyrics at first to say the least.
