Other scars and cracks are the subject of "God Bless This Mess", which begins as Jon acapella -Stück: "I got some blood under my nails, I got some mud on my face," he sings, and together with the band goes its report even further - the voice is gone, the hair turns gray, the muscles hurt. And while many simply hope to survive a storm, others just go in such situations: This is the mess that Bon Jovi celebrate here because they are not alone, they can rely on each other
The voice is gone? Does this refer to Jon's misuse of his voice? Hence, he struggles to sing out of his comfort zone? No more high vocal songs? Well if you followed them since TD, the fan already knows this. Nice for Jon to acknowlege his voice problems and growing older.... If fans needed confirmation, Jon's happy with his current voice. Sad, but I am OK with that, I accept Jon as a mid 50's guy, and accepting this stage of his life. Album titles seem promising compared to WAN. |
Some interesting tidbits there from what I assume will be the press pack for the album.
Knockout & Born Again Tomorrow sounds like it could be the same old live your life stuff. New Years Day sounds interesting, given the initial waltz progression it possibly sounded a bit like Fingerprints. Look forward to seeing how it actually ended up. Devils In The Temple could very well be the We Don't Run with those lyrics- hoping for a quick aggressive punch tune there. Scars On This Guitar is a great title- the subject matter sounds a bit like Bed Of Roses in places. Just disappointed that Reunion is on the album. It should have been left for the purpose it was designed for at that uni speech. Exciting build up times. Here's hoping we get some snippets soon! |
Except for Knockout and Born Again Tomorrow quite a lot of the songs sounds a little darker than we are used to on the latest album, judging by the description. Really has no idea of what to expect. Living With the Ghost and Scars On This Guitar are cool titles.
Really disappointed though that Reunion is on there. Just feels "meh"... Even though we've only heard an acoustic live performance it's not what I imagined was Bon Jovis next step in terms of sound. |

I much prefer the introspective angle, each wall of the house representing a member of the band and the roots snaking up into the house is a powerful image and actually gives it some depth. Question is, if this house (the band) is not for sale, is the connotation that members who have left the band (ie Richie) have sold out? |

i d say its both in a way, anything that compromised the band and didnt gave them the respect they think should be given...
the message is we ll go on and respect our legacy, our promises etc etc.we wont give up because the company thinks we are no big name anymore , we wont stop because richie feels like it. its the chip on the shoulder |

Or it might have been given a new title. Which didn't happen too often with BJ, though.
I always took the title track as saying "I'll be damned if I give up this band just now". I doubt it's about Richie OR the label, just the general situation. (Remember what happened to Jon's daughter during the beginning of last tour, too!) |
