He didn't touch on his vocals obviously, but I guess he knows his strengths and weaknesses and that will reflect on THINFS and future albums. Just hope his voice can be on better shape as he goes on, not expecting anything great, just better than what we heard on WAN TOUR, say THE GREATEST HITS TOUR at best, if his voice can do that..... We got a Desmond Child mention in the Live FB and a Ritchie too! Also how he doesn't just write/or record a song just like that....interesting about BORN AGAIN TOMORROW, The song is about would you change something you did in your life and Jon said no. Jon said that BORN AGAIN TOMORROW WILL BE RELEASED SOON! like Knock-out I guess, unless this is the second single of THINFS? |

It would be great next week is available. I would not mind discover every week a new song as he did with BB and NJ Deluxe Edition. Especially knowing that we will have 17 songs adding bonus tracks. |
Am I the only one romantic here who didnt listen to Knockout and wont listen anymore until I got the record in my hands?

Ha ha...you know me too well! ;) |
My biggest gripe with these new songs (well, it's been like that for some time now) is that they sound too much like any other song out there.
Back in 2001 Jon said in a VH-1 documentary (can't remember if it was Behind The Music or Ultimate Albums) about the period of SWW: "We realized with being who were, and not trying to be anything else - you sink or swim on that. Don't chase something you're not 'cause you're gonna be a day late!" Well, that's exactly what they're doing nowadays. They've always used to incorporate currently popular styles into their music but it was always the BJ sound with different influences added to it. The last few albums sound like it could've been done by any band, there's not much of their trademark sound left. It's not only due to the decline of Jon's voice, also the drum patterns and keyboard sounds could've all been programmed or played by John Shanks. It's not that they shouldn't try, especially with Richie being gone, to re-establish themselves and find their identity again. But they're not finding it, they're losing it more and more. One or two of these are nice for a listening inbetweent, but the substance behind the material seems to be missing more and more. |

I believe the songs not destined for radio will be closer to the Bon Jovi signature that (not only) you crave. But much of that was built up on powerful delivery of lyrics, vocal range, innovative licks and emotional solos. Unfortunately these ingredients have slowly disappeared from the Bon Jovi cake. This will never come back. I must say that I still prefer Jon's version of Knockout to the other singer's in the video posted somewhere on this site. The vocals might be technically superior than Jon's, but there's something - whether tangible or intangible - that other artists can't replicate. I don't know exactly what that is, (loyalty? history?) but for me it's still there and that's why I still support Bon Jovi and look forward to every new release...even with Richie gone (to be honest, with the songs already released, you wouldn't know he's gone judging by the guitar parts). I'm also very looking forward to Richie and Orianthi's album....maybe even a tad more :) |
