So I think the 'tour' is already planned, I'm sure the NA arena leg is set (it is still a cash cow for them) and for other places he is unsure when and in what scale. But I don't think they hate money, so I'm sure in some capacity a tour will take place and part of it is already set.

His phrasing is wonky. Responding "perhaps, not necessarily" to "with a new album comes a new tour" to me indicates major markets only. I think there will be a tour but I also think at this point that stuff would be squared away. He sounds like he's hemming and hawing at the idea. Unless they just throw up the dates in the next few months. With the album out soon I would have thought a big tour was in the works. Interesting to see what's going to come of it.

Totally agree with you.

We all knew this day would come eventually. What this says to me is, I need to see as many shows as I can because with jons vocal struggles and the age of the band, we don't know how much they have left. I am getting impatient for some dates though! I travel a lot with my husband and I need some advance notice for next year (hopefully by November.)

There will be 3 trips announced soon. They are short notice trips but also not to be missed. Hardest ticket around and we will have them.

Sounds like they're going to be expensive. It would be nice to have a London event to get a photo with JBJ for a couple of hundred, but it'll be wayyyy more than that based on the US trips

Jack27 09-14-2016 07:44 PM

One suspects the trips will be a side job while Jon is in those places for promo, rather than Jon making the trip especially for the Runaway Tours event (with the exception of New York)

nikos greece 09-14-2016 08:02 PM

i ll go the extra (naive) mile and say jon isnot so excited about conquering the world, first because of insecurity about the state of his voice, secondly because of the absence of richie, he proved he can do it alone but i still think there are times he misses richie especially on stage and thirdly and last he is a bit insecure about their popularity/ability to sell out stadiums(jon lower the prices a bit and i m sure you ll be surprised)

I think that the trippers could be simply <the attendance> at those 3 promo shows - not a special show for the fan club and then a promo show but the same stuff merging together

That is what I am assuming too. And if that is the case I won't be doing any promo shows.

Javier 09-14-2016 11:48 PM

I think the way to go would be making them the "priviledge" attendance like the ones upfront and all of that for the promo shows. But to make them the only attendees just seems wrong....

Wait, the first pic Phil posted, who is that with a guitar talking to Obie. It doesn't look like Bobby or Matt. Is it Phil's guitar tech, doesn't look like Takumi, or yet another rhythm guitar player?

it must be john shanks

Oooooh bingo! I wonder if he's playing guitar for the show.

Interesting idea, but for me it doesn't really look like John Shanks. I have the image in my head that he's not so tall and slim.

I also ask myself if this is a Bon Jovi band show or Jon Bon Jovi solo. As far as I read, this is a corporate event in Minneapolis, which would explain why we only got to know this today. And afaik the band doesn't do so many corporate events. But Phil on the right and David's hint to shows coming soon speaks for band.

Btw, has anybody noticed the "Always" on the sticker on the left of the pedal board, next to the Wah? Wonder what's planned for that event.

Manbou 09-15-2016 05:02 AM

Plus, derived from the photos with John Shanks, the whole Jovi entourage was in New York a few days ago, but what for? What did they do there, except for Jon doing some interviews. And why is John Shanks with them at the show at Minneapolis?
And tomorrow or so they are all flying back to NY, for the Knockout video (which is made on the 17-18th September, according to the casting guy's instagram entry)?

Would have loved them to separate touring and recording a bit more and keep Matt for the shows.
But as John Shanks is not neccessarily a great guitarist, but obiously able to do some nice stuff, I'm eager to hear what his live playing and stage appearance is like.

John Shanks was Melissa Ethridge's lead guitar player for years. To say he's not a great guitarist because of how we view him as a producer I'm not sure I agree with. He was a guitar player for so long.

Well, someone being a long-time lead guitar Player does Not always make One a great guitarist. And john shanks, judging from the stuff I know, is surely good, but far from being top notch.

Still, dont think that this Position for shanks is not Bad. As I said earlier, he can play some adequate stuff, and has been member of the bon jovi family for so long as producer, Co writer and (ghost) guitarist, so I think he deserves a Bit more Spot Light. And I think he'll be doing a better Job than bobby on bon jovi rhythm guitar 100% ;)

I would love if Shanks joined the band full time as a 2nd guitarist. He already produces and co-writes the songs and is more important to the band's sound than any other member not named Jon. Jon would be missing Bobby's backing vocals, but in 2016 he will sound horrible regardless. Sadly, I don't think this will happen as Shanks is probably too much in demand as a producer for other artists.

jovioma 09-15-2016 10:10 AM

what kind of a show in Minneapolis ?

Probably a private One, since there weren't any announcements/advertising.

It's John Shanks

Might be a hint and might be not.
I remember that I think during the HAND tour there was a pic of Dave's keyboard and there was a sticker with the mode-numbers for certain songs. The list included songs like Two Story Town, Say It Isn't So or The Distance which weren't played or soundchecked at all.

Exactly. I also have a pic from their Today Show run in 2009 and Dave had mode-numbers for Live Before You Die and Fast Cars on his sticker. Yet they were never played in the end.

The show was for Target. https://twitter.com/khadeeja_safdar/...95282041135104 Guitar definitely sounded different.

Woah, yeah that's different. The guitar sounded very country (I'm no guitar expert)

Captain_jovi 09-15-2016 10:37 PM

It's that lick someone did, I can't tell which of them it was but I instantly confused it with Lorenza being there. Great tone though.

Yeah, that threw me off. Makes sense that if it's something new that it's Shanks I suppose.

Lesty 09-16-2016 12:53 AM

They played who says you can't go home,
THINFS, knockout and bad medicine.
Band sounded surprisingly great, vocally and musically being that they aren't really in prime touring form. Shanks adds decent background vocals. The entire band was there, but they were introduced as "Jon Bon jovi@ which I thought was odd.

Wow, ballsy move to do two new songs at an event like that, especially with only 4 songs. Much respect.

DestinationJovi 09-16-2016 01:15 AM

Oh my god. Jon can't hit the notes. Phil is screaming rather than singing the backing vocals. This is awful.

Again, JBJ sounds so weak. Listen to how he says 'drug' - So weird.

First 'show' back and first in ages since he probably sung something that tempo but he can't do a full tour. No way...

Christ. How did his voice get this bad? Is he smoking crack? If a vocal coach or surgery can't fix it then call it a day Jonathan.

I have always hated Phil X's backing vocals. He is fine as a guitarist but it is his lack of a pleasing voice that makes me miss Richie the most. I would have thought Jon would have found someone who could handle both the lead guitar and vocals after the end of the BWC tour when Phil was brought back to save the day. I mean, if there is going to be a permanent replacement of Richie, Jon should have paid equal attention to the vocal support for not only himself but for the songs.

I always hated Phil's backing vocals on We Don't Run live. The 'whoaaa' part at the start was literally him screaming at the top of his voice.

It makes me sad. Very sad. He has zero confidence in his vocals and it's rubbing off on the rest of his performance. Sadly, everyone gets old, but he'll always be my favorite front man. Reminds of when a sports great keeps going out there when they probably should've retired about 3 years ago.

That said, can we please get Axl's vocal coach in touch with Jon? That person is a miracle worker(though Axl was admittedly a more natural singer from the start).

He didn't get it going by the 10th and final show of the 2015 mini tour so I'm not sure why you think this tour will be any different.

Manbou 09-16-2016 02:38 AM

With the two New Songs being played... Can it be that this Show was taped like those Walmart vids in 2013? So that target can run some promotion?
