Take Back The Night has an energy that I like, and it feels good to close an album, at least those are my feelings on the matter.

Anyway, I enjoy a lot of songs like, Come on up To Our House, Scars on This Guitar, Life Is Beautiful, Burning Bridges and others .......... ;)

Variety is the spice of life. Be boring if we all liked the same things.

I've seen people rate This Is Our House as one of their top 5 Jovi songs, which to my mind (and ears) is crazy. But what harm is it really? It's just a song!

Rolo! Which is the best place to buy the album here in Spain?
I had thought to buy it from Japan but I wouldn´t like it to be with japanese letters
Also, you seem to like THINFS, so I´m glad you do, I still don´t know because I haven´t heard more than several times THINFS, twice KO and LOL, and once BAT. But for your general reviews and sensations it looks like a great album in terms of where the band is today, and who they really are today. I´m anxious to listen to it but I won´t till I have the phisical album in my hands, and to do that I still have to decide where to buy it.

vidda I think FNAC, or at least that's what I've heard. I got mine from ebay (pre order)

dianebonjovi 11-05-2016 05:43 PM

I haven't been here in a while (the excessive amount of questionable ads have been keeping me away) but since I just bought the CD today decided to take a chance to read some reviews. So imagine my shock to see 113 pages on this thread! Then I see the CD was leaked on Oct 26. I wanted to wait to have the actual CD in my hand before listening to any of the new songs, so it doesn't matter, but how long is it going to take me to read 113 pages of posts!

So I bought the 15 song version from Walmart Canada. And I've just listened to it once so far, so will need more listens to form stronger opinions. (the only song I'd heard before today was THINFS)

My strongest thought after the first listen, was that putting We Don't Run on the deluxe version was a mistake. It ruins the flow of the "new" album. There should have been at least several seconds of silence before it started.

On first listen, my favourites were:
This House is Not For Sale (possibly because I was familiar with it)
The Devil's in the Temple
Scars on this Guitar
God Bless This Mess
Come On Up To Our House
Real Love
All Hail The King

I'm sure my opinion will change after more listens.

Now back to page 1 to see what everyone else thinks of it. :)

JoltingJovian 11-05-2016 07:21 PM

I bought the 17 track UK edition.

And in all honesty it is a better collection of songs than i first thought it was going to be. There are a few fillers, however, It is, in my opinion the best thing since the Circle.

Favourites are Rollercoaster, Devils in the temple, Goodbye New york, living with the ghost. However, i believe the best song by far is All Hail The King. It reminds me of some of the HAND offcuts - Nothing etc. It is a travesty that many wont own it. It belongs on the main album.

I like the additions of some dance elements in the album (which i never thought i'd say) it updates the brand. they even do an imogen heap tribute in I will Drive You Home (imogen started out as backing singer for jons solo albums) and the honesty in the songs - my voice is shot my hair is grey and my bones ache for example. Not the look at us the squeaky clean rockband they have been holding on to for a number of years now.

Not alot of the tired live my life etc etc talk box woah woah either.

Overall 7 /10

About a week ago, I was using my Playstation VR with Harmonix Music VR. It lets you plug a USB Drive in to use your own music, but the file navigation is crappy so I wound doing an eenie, meenie, miney, mo and wound up settling on Take Back The Night as the song to take a virtual trip in. It's been on my list of guilty pleasures since!

Becky 11-05-2016 07:35 PM

Okay, because this list is shorter, my least favorite songs on the album are:

Knockout
Labor of Love
Real Love
Touch of Grey

And I actually like all of them, even Knockout in the context of the rest of the songs. I just don't like them as much as all the others. Maybe I'm in a honeymoon phase right now. But if I were to pick my most favoritestest, they would be:

Scars on This Guitar
All Hail the King
New Year's Day
Come on Up to Our House
THINFS
And the rest of the album.
Sorry, right now it's like picking between my cats.

Beats the hell out of having to buy the singles one by one. I've spend a lot of money and time tracking them down over the years! At least in Spain they were very expensive and most of them imported

This is actually the cheapest album if you take in consideration how many tracks it has, even if you buy two versions to have all the bonus tracks

James_86 11-05-2016 08:55 PM

Downloaded the leak so I've had a week or so to digest the album. God it feels good to say my favourite band have released a stonking record. Other than Knockout which I really don't care for, every track is solid.

Standout songs for me are Ghost, Rollercoaster, God Bless This Mess, Our House, Real Love and Drive You Home. The latter is probably the most left field song the band have ever released. Utterly beautiful and entrancing.

New Years Day is a standout too. It's really grown on me with repeated listens.

Scars lacks a little something though it's still good. The live version is better.

I do like Devils In The Temple and I appreciate the raw, rocky sound though I don't share the enthusiam a lot of people have for it.

All Hail The King is brilliant. Reminds me of Letter To A Friend in the sense that it builds and builds but never truly explodes and leaves you wanting a little more.

Lastly, We Don't Run. Wow! Completely blows the arse off the BB version. Almost makes the original sound like a demo.

I often wonder that. I like it a lot but it's basically very commercial pop rock, which we keep criticizing the band for turning into

At least Crush was a fun, fresh, pop AND rock album and had amazing bonus tracks/demos. I guess people like the attitude in HAND which was missing in the previous albums? I like it because of the darker lyrics and the underlying somber vibe. Oh and Novocaine was my favorite postTD song until Teardrop

Well, what I can complain about is the fact that if you live in the USA at least you have the chance of going to Wallmart, to Target, and having for almost the same price than us all the bonus tracks.

We can't even bought them as our deluxe edition has only 17 songs and there're no exclusive versions here.

Regular (worldwide) 17 deluxe version:

http://musica.fnac.es/a1299902/Bon-J...-Soft-Digipack

Wow very expensive, it's £12.99 pounds in the UK for the same version

To recap: 18 tracks with Touch of Grey is the German (and Austrian??), Japanese and Target versions. I think is Walmart whose deluxe version has 16 tracks, one of them being Color Me In (no I Will Drive You Home, Goodnight NY or Touch of Grey I think). AFAIK that's all :D

I don't get it, either. It actually ranks the lowest out of the post-2000 albums for me. It's mainly the lyrical content I take issue with though. "I Want To Be Loved" is musically fine, the but lyrics are teeny bopper whiny and "Complicated" is the same deal. I want to like them, but just can't get past manufactured/calculated lyrics.

Last Man Standing is an issue. It is often raved about here, but from the moment I heard it...it reeked of "so they hated TLFR and want rock...we'll give it to them." But what was given came off as over-the-top and sarcastic. While I do enjoy it when it is done live, the lyrics were written for and meant to be on the original version as intended for TLFR and ultimately wound up on the box set. The HAND version is insincere and calculated.

I like about 4 songs on HAND. If it weren't for the 2 bonus songs it'd be only 2 songs.
Thought it was a really poor effort.

Plus I hate the line "God makes no mistakes" yuk yuk yuk.

Preferred the box set version of LMS

Bounce is a good solid album, I've always liked it a lot, didn't care about most of the ballads but I really don't skip more than a couple of songs. The tour was weak though, I didn't enjoy my show as I wanted to, so some songs didn't click until later on when I found the Shepherd's Bush show which was simply immense.

But the bonus tracks were an absolute treat, I love them all. Postcards from the Wasteland has some of the best lyrics ever

this was one of those musical experiences that we will never forget and brings new life for me to all 19 of the tracks.
The really cool thing is...
I think my daughter may look back on this release as her classic Jovi album in
15-20 years and frankly, I can understand why.;)
Cheers.

How cool is that? When I was her age I didn't care about my parent's music, I had my own which of course was edgier and much better (in my mind lol). At least I was aware of BJ and liked the songs and had all those pictures of Jon. I know... preteen hormones ha ha

It's really great to see young BJ fans. It gives me hope that the new generations will appreciate rock music which is sadly forgotten in the mainstream radio

That song disappeared from my playlists. Enough said ;)

I also never liked the HAND (the song) lyrics. Trying waaaaay too hard. I've mellowed over the years and I don't skip it too often. The video was overkill. We get it... you are sooo cool... But I liked the dog video (the Who says video I mean)

I agree with LMS, so fake and calculated. I thought it was only me, I've lost count of how many times I've rolled my eyes this past 10 years with a BJ lyric. I assumed it was just my cynical nature. I'd rather hear Complicated, which also disappeared from my playlist

Agreed! For me, AALY and Hello are the ones that I skip. I otherwise enjoy the album quite a bit. Shepherds Bush was an awesome showcase for the new songs.

I should have enjoyed the tour show a lot more than I did, which is not to say I didn't. It was a personal triumph to be in that time place to see the show where I didn't think I would be able to. I love Pink Floyd and the Pulse show, but had I known at the time that it was the same lighting/laser guy doing the Bounce show.. I'd have even more underwhelmed. I love lasers, but they did nothing for me. Maybe it was my seat, which was quite close. The lasers looked so small.

Misunderstood was the surprising highlight of the night in just the way it sounded and was performed.

Postcards is one of my all time favorite tracks from them.

Bounce was the last album before This House that I actually liked. It is patchy though. The good songs are very good and the bad ones are very bad ... no, boring would be a better word. I also agree on the bonus tracks.

ezearis 11-06-2016 02:48 AM

I love Bounce from beginning to end, even the ballads. I really don't get the hate for them AALY is a great ballad, and You Had Me From Hello and Open All Night are nice songs too. The only weak song in that album is Joey but it ain't that bad as everyone says, and maybe Love Me Back To Life is a little boring. But I can't call an album with Undivided, Everyday, The Distance, Misunderstood, All About Loving You and Right Side of Wrong and the tile track bad.

Open All Night is one of my top tracks in the catalog, not just Bounce, the album. Stand that baby right next to "Lonely."

It's definitely an album that has aged well for me. I like "Love Me Back To Life" a lot less than I did at the time, but bulk of it has stood the test of time. I've always rated Right Side highly and was thrilled they played it on the night I saw the tour. The Distance and even Hook Me Up would actually blow me away to hear now if they did them live.

To me Hook Me Up is one of those songs that sound way better live than in studio, at least for the videos I've seen. Also, almost 10 years later and I still don't understand how it's that Lonely was relegated to a bonus track. It's an amazing song.

Alphavictim 11-06-2016 05:45 AM

Have A Nice Day: My fav post 2000 album easily. It is very pop rock, but I like pop rock.
Title track: By far their best "calculated hit single" since Keep The Faith.
I Wanna Be Loved: The demo lyrics are superior, otherwise, this is engaging enough
Welcome...: I like the guitar lick, but the lyrics are drivel.
Who Says: It's fun!
LMS: Great track.
Bells Of Freedom: I really like this one.
Wildflower: Skip.
Last Cigarette: GREAT groove in the verses.
I Am: Absolute gem. I still remember hearing the leak (snippet?) of this one before and being blown away. The verses have such awesome textures to them. Also really like how the guitar solo is super low, sounds like it's cutting through the music.
Complicated: Sounds quite a bit like I Kissed A Girl... and shares its co-writer (Max Martin), but it's older, so uhm, catchy stuff and silly rhymes are what's left of it.
Novocaine: Never was as crazy about it as others here, but it's okay. Good lyrics.
Story Of My Life: Okay, basically.
Dirty Littel Secret: GREAT energy.

Bounce was actually my first BJ album. Does anybody here have the track by track commentary that used to be up on BJ.com?
Undivided: By far the best live track from that era and a great opener.
Everyday: The instrumental backing is MASSIVE (listen to the guitar in the chorus!), but the melody itself never quite lives up to be that anthem it so desperately aches to be. The loops also sound quite dated now.
The Distance: Meh. Nice imagery in the lyrics, though.
Joey: I actually think it's a great story and a catchy song.
Misunderstood: One of the catchiest choruses the band has EVER written, and a great song all around. Should have been on the 2nd GH album. Nasally vocals, though, and the single mix is much superior.
All About Loving You: Anemic performance (loops!), but the chorus melody itself is fine.
Hook Me Up: Energetic, but rather simplistic. The riff is just four chords.
Right Side Of Wrong: Yeah this is pretty Springsteen-y. Good story and great incorporation of the solo, though. Nice structure overall, actually.
Love Me Back To Life: Meh.
You Had Me From Hello: The riff screams Sambora, otherwise this is rather unremarkable but has a nice easy atmosphere to it.
Bounce: The riff is absolutely awesome and the track itself is super fun as well. Wish it was not as saturated with effect, but oh well.
Open All Night: Good lyrics, weak performance again.
Postcards From The Wasteland: Obviously just a demo, but great song otherwise.

Every album since Crush has been patchy to me. Normally love 6, don't mind 2, don't like 2 and refuse to play 2 on every album!

Liking 75% of an album is good enough for me!

Sorry guys for asking such a question but I want to figure out what is the most complete edition of This house is not for sale. I saw there is a variant on Apple entitled Deluxe edition. But a proper Deluxe cd variant for this album can't I find on Amazon? Or elsewhere? I live in Europe. Please help with this info.

Thank you!

The one in Tidal has 19 tracks.

I found a version with 18 songs on it, but there was still another song I saw mentioned on here that I can't find anywhere. I can't even remember the name something about "Color"?
That would make 19 songs!

Ok, I wish I could have the opportunity of buyins a phisical album, not to download it. I want the phisic version to play in my car.
