Thanks!

BOB is something. I don't know if it's good or not, but I liked it.

LYHOM drags and drags. Jon's voice doesn't fit that kind of songs anymore but if he moves around and sells the song I'm not going to complain. I'd have this LYHOM over (almost) every LH-TC-WAN song any day.

Have thet toned LYHOM down? I haven't heard it recently but was it always that slow?

It's hard to believe how weak he sounds. Always was much stronger. I don't know, I still can't see how he's going to survive the whole tour. His voice has surely improved since the worst performances from 2013 but it's still as weak as it was in early 2016. The band covers him pretty nicely and I'm very happy with how they sound (band + Jon) but I still have my doubts

MSG 2008 :p

And Always was also included in the Pro Shot broadcast from Hyde Park 2011.

I had forgotten about MSG 2008. I had the DVD and lost it. Never watched it (everybody said it was pretty dull). Wasn't the sound somewhat *embellished* too?

I'd check that 2011 broadcast. No other radio broadcasts? Wasn't there something for the O2 shows?

I wonder why there haven't been many soundboard recordings when his voice was stronger and now one for each show. Even regulars realize how much voice he's lost without needing to hear the shows in all their glorious quality. It really baffles me

Bon Jovi - Always (London 2010) - YouTube

Slightly changing the topic from what seems to have been the majority of the discussion (I've only scan read through), just comparing the solos between this version from 2010 and the one the other night... it just doesn't sound like Bon Jovi without Richie. Obviously the man has gone way downhill in the last few years, but listening to Phil play the outro solo just leaves me feeling cold, doesn't seem to have anywhere near the same emotion and feel put into it.

I'd agree with you up to a point, I love Richie's version of it. He plays it more aggressively and his tricks and licks give it a bit of oomph by which the song feels like it's going out with a bang! But many times it felt like he had no direction and was just repeating the same licks over and over, but when he nailed it, it jumped the song up a few notches for sure. Phil plays a more melodic and emotional version of it, in some ways I think it fits the song better.

That Always is probably as good as could possibly be expected, which is better than I thought it would be! Love that final chorus, especially the change on the final word

This is how I imagine most regulars feel, which is really good for the future of this band

Phil aint the man for soulful solos. His style just doesn't suit the bon jovi sound. I'm really struggling to understand why Jon hired him. Listen to the KTF solo, it's bizarre and nothing like the original.

I genuinely think I'd go and watch a show if the lead guitar player could do the role some justice.

Really? I love Phil X. I'm not a guitar aficionado, but he sounds good to me. And he's having so much damn fun up there.

That's fair enough. If you enjoy it I'm not trying to spoil that.

I just can't listen to his playing in Bon Jovi and not feel dissatisfied. I hold nothing against him personally. The fact he smiles a lot makes no difference to me either.

I totally get where you are coming from. I don’t care about Phil in the band even though I think he’s good (maybe I’m biased because I knew him from his crazy videos before BJ), I’d rather have scripted banter with Richie than Phil’s natural energy and contagious smile. I still can’t believe Richie is gone and I’ll probably never accept it, BJ was always Jon&Richie to me and this is not BJ. No matter how many times I watch and enjoy the new songs, no matter how much I love the new album, I can’t help but feel sad and disappointed with how things went.

But what would you have done, realistically? Don’t you think that Jon feels more comfortable having friends and known faces around? He still looks awkward up there and I highly doubt he’ll ever be the same, his chemistry with Richie (faked or not) was a huge part of the show and now Jon is torn between creating a new dynamic knowing that fans will criticize if he treats Phil and Shanks like equals, or having the spotlight on him knowing that he’s lost the magic touch and worrying about his voice because there’s nothing else for him to do. I guess this is a compromise, if there’s a chance to get a part of Jon the great frontman back, it’s easier for him to be surrounded by people he knows and don’t worry about connecting with the rest of the band
