Best Bon Jovi lyrics
Let's share our favourite lyrics from our favourite band. Here are mine:
"Marry me to the blue sky/bury me in that long last drop of hard rain/ meet me where they stop time/ that's you to me on this shovel that's digging this grave." (Living with the ghost) "I've seen a dying man, too proud to beg, spit on his own grave. Was he too gone to save? Or did you even know his name?" (Hey God) "Through the years and miles between us, its been a cold and lonely ride. But if I got that call in the dead of night, I'd be right by your side!" (Blood on blood) "Lyin' here beside you in someone else's bed Knowin' what we're doin's wrong but better left unsaid Your breathin' sounds like screamin' It's all that I can stand His ring is on your finger but my heart is in your hands" (damned) "If the pain that I'm feeling's so strong, its the reason that I'm holding on. Then I'm wrong, yeah I'm wrong, this ain't a love song." (This ain't a love song) And finally, "were halfway their/whoa-ho/living on a prayer/take my hand, and we'll making it I swear".( its a little cheesey, but its awesome.) |
Id' say that These Days without a doubt have BJs best lyrical work, with KTF as second. I think the entire album is a masterpiece when it comes to lyrics, but some of the best ones are
Letting You Go Now some tarot card shark said I'll draw you a heart And we'll find you somebody else new But I've made my last trip to those carnival lips When I bet all that I had on you These Days Jimmy shoes busted both his legs, trying to learn to fly From a second story window, he just jumped and closed his eyes His momma said he was crazy - he said, "Momma, I've got to try. Don't you know that all my heroes died? And I guess I'd rather die than fade away Something To Believe In If I don't believe in Jesus, how can I believe the Pope If I don't believe in heroin, how can I believe in dope If there's nothing but survival, how can I believe in sin In a world that gives you nothing We need something to believe in Bed of Roses deserves a nomination as well. Amazing lyrics throughout that song Well I'm so far away That each step that I take is on my way home A king's ransom in dimes I'd given each night Just to see through this payphone Still I run out of time Or it's hard to get through Till the bird on the wire flies me back to you I'll just close my eyes and whisper, Baby blind love is true So many great lyrics to mention, these are just among a lot of great ones. During the 90s everything Jon and Richie touched turned to lyrical gold. Some of it was still there for Crush, but from Bounce it would never really be the same. That said, there has been a dozen of good ones since. But the stuff they did on the 90s are just timeless, still today I get shivers listening to some of the lyrics written back then. |
Man there are so many. Yuo already took two of my all time favs from Bed of Roses and Letting You Go, so here are some others...
Whole Lot of Leavin' I close my eyes, and picture your hands in mine, I still hear your voice, it takes me back to that time, Where I can find a reason to be strong, Seems like lately there's a whole lot of leavin' going on Edge of a Broken Heart I'm on the outside, looking inside, You're with him, who's on the wrong side now, Do you still think of me? Into the Echo Did somebody sell you some broke fairy tale, Now you wait by the water for a ship that has sailed, Into the echo, we shout our dreams Into the echo, we throw our hearts Into the echo, we send our love Into the echo, to the echo, into the echo, just to hear it back I Want to Be Loved I found a picture, our so called family tree, I broke all the branches, looking for answers, Don't you know that ain't how it's suppose to be The Last Night I know you've heard it all before, There's nothing worse than living less when you yearn for something more, Makes no sense, it's hard to understand, When there's something that should fill you up keeps sleeping through your hands Love Lies Time goes on, all signs of life stolen, Simple dreams were all broken, Best of times become desperation, But how many tears must you cry to survive? Devil's in the Temple The Devil's in the temple and he's making a mess, Got the Mona Lisa got his hands up her dress, The gun is in his hands but he ain't gonna confess, he lies Living In Sin Is it right for both our parents, who fight it out most nights, Then pray for God's forgiveness, when they both turn out the lights Or wear that ring of diamonds, when you heart is made of stone You can talk but still say nothing, you stay together but alone Or is it right to hold you, and kiss your lips goodnight They say the promise is forever, if you sign it on the dotted line Could add a couple more from Fear, Roller Coaster, I Believe, Last Man Standing, Just Older (the list is endless!), but I'll stop there. Ultimately though, my all time favourite songs in terms of lyrics are:

I wonder if it's Jon who writes the bulk of the above lyrics or if he hooks up with the likes of Billy Falcon and helps finish a song of his and records it?
|
I have so many but from more recent times:
Are you who you are What’s under that mask Do you burn for the future or yearn for the past Did somebody send you, some broke fairy tale, Now you wait by the water for a ship that has sailed Into The Echo |

Love these :
I'll be there till the stars don't shine Till the heavens burst and The words don't rhyme And I know when I die, you'll be on my mind And I'll love you - Always |
I really like this one The pain of pleasure lying together, you're at their mercy as the telephone's ringing on. No one said there'd be nights like this, risk your life for a stolen kiss

I have dozens of favorites. Other than the obvious choices (These Days, Something to Believe In, Dry County, My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms...), I love these:
Silent Night Incredibly underrated. This particular lyric is perfect in its simplicity, which in my book is a sign of a great lyric It was all so simple when You were to be queen and I'd be your king I guess those dreams got lost Cause baby you're still you and I'm still me Bitter Wine I identified with this lyric for many years We met some time ago, when we were almost young It never crossed my mind to ask, where did you come from? I didn't have much money, so I stole you a rose You were dressed like an orphan, in Salvation Army clothes Wedding Day I tried to make it to the church now, baby A broken heart got in the way All I do is tell you I'm sorry Sorry, I missed your wedding day Miss Fourth of July The whole song evokes very strong feelings, it's pure perfection and amazing lyric after amazing lyric. My favorite part is the chorus So we wave goodbye to Miss Fourth of July The queen of the roses has left us with nothing but thorns Don't say we never tried, Miss Fourth of July The stars that we reached for left us with nothing but dawn A Teardrop to The Sea This parts gets me every time (again a very simple but highly evocative lyric) The laugh of the party, the tears of a clown, Can't hear a heartbreak, the music's too loud And I think I Want You and Stay have average lyrics but I like them better than BOR. There I said it :D |
One that hasn't been mentioned is Living With The Ghost
I traded hurting for healing I must admit that I was reeling now I'm feeling just fine Traded nightmares for dreaming Go tell your shadows that I got out alive I ain't living with the ghost No future living in the past I've seen what hurt has done to hope I found the tree I cut the rope Tomorrow wasn't built to last I ain't living with the ghost How can I scream, I'm scared to breathe This is my fav: Quote:
