This Prayer is terrible

He clearly uses the playback track here (before the solo).

I have wondered about an adjustment in the key of the song myself. I know songs can be keyed down because it is done by people singing the U.S. National Anthem which was written at a ridiculously high key level.

Adjusting the key for Prayer would be a problem as they use studio backing tracks in the choruses. Same thing goes for It's My Life, Have a Nice Day and possibly some more. Unless they decided to go in and re-record backing tracks for Prayer in a studio 2017 it won't happen.

Edit: After a second thought it struck me that they managed to keep the backing tracks that were recorded in E for live performances in Eb, so maybe it would be possible.

No I don't have deaf ears and I am not a backstager. I just get sick and tired of the whining complaining of Jon's voice, simple solution, if u don't like his voice no more, then don't listen to the youtube or facebook videos anymore! And I find it insulting that you all hear would criticize someone or to dictate to an artist who has been in the music industry for 30 years how to run his show, how to sing, what to sing, etc. What have you guys done lately? Look of course his voice is not what it use to be, and PLEASE for the love of God don't bring up other artists that have been around longer than Jon and still have "good voices" or can still carry high notes, that is them, good for them, there are not Jon and Jon is not them. So just stop whining and move on. BTW, I believe more the people on twitter who actually tweet from the shows personally, because they are actually there, seeing and hearing everything, all u guys have is YouTube and facebook to rely on, not a bunch of trolls that lurk occasionally here just to criticize Jon. I see these names that come out of nowhere and just spew hate, very sad.

According to your theory, if we don't like Jon's voice anymore, we should not watch videos or hear audios of him singing anymore. Therefore, if you don't like to read negative comments about his vocals, which is something completely normal and acceptable on a Bon Jovi diehard board, simply don't read them anymore !

I was at the show.

Here's the thing.. being surrounded by fans who are singing along, in addition to you possibly also singing along, and feeling the energy of the live performance, all mask how bad Jon actually sounds in the moment.

I noticed a few notes he couldn't reach but I honestly didn't realize how bad it was until I saw video.

Live, as in being there live - not just listening to a live stream, it was pretty damn good.

On video, not so much.

So I completely get the vast discrepancy.

But the attacking and putting down of those who have a different opinion than you is really getting old.

Well said about the difference between being there in person and listening via recording. I'm looking forward to my show in Las Vegas.

Is there anybody who bought the MP3/FLAC recording of the show?

While that video is no longer available, judging from another one, I can't see what's *that* terrible or different from the first two shows? Any specific parts?

And concerning the backing tracks: anything can be pitch-shifted, and a half step or even a whole step isn't that hard and barely noticeable...

When was the last time Prayer didn't sound like shit? Let's be generous and say early 2013

He sounds really bad on the new songs. THAT is very worrying

I'm glad they didn't go for this one as the tour opener. Phil X running around on the stage is the only thing that is energetic about that song.

I still dont like the opening bit of the song. Not an opener at all. Just like TWTWMM on the WAN tour - didnt work at all.

I think he sounds better on new songs as they are easier to sing.

He did on the first show. I liked THINFS for the first time there (I don't know why he struggles so much with that one). Of course he sounds better on the new songs on any show, you only have to listen to the terrible BTBMB soundboard recording from the first show to know that this is not going to get any better for any song older than 2007 when he butchers such an easy song :(

But it's true he's improved technically. He's not as nasal, he is able to pronounce much better (I think the singing term is phrasing right?), so Jon + band are much easier on the ears now than they were on 2015

I find it weird how Hugh is not participating in the backing vocals as much this tour....

I have not noticed this. In which songs do you mean he has stopped provided backing vocals for? Or do you mean the new songs?

TheOriginalJez 02-14-2017 11:47 PM

BTBMB sounded a lot better, squealy pinch harmonics kicking some life back into the verses. I wonder if someone's reading this board haha

symbeline 02-15-2017 02:21 PM

A good quality hour long medley (¿?)

Same user has shorter medleys of the same show

Edit: This really highlights how static Jon is. It's sad to see him playing electric guitar glued to the spot. If he moved around a little bit the show would be 100% more enjoyable

Sort of a general observation I made while watching some youtube clips. But now that you mention it you may be right, it may just be on the new songs. They are dividing the backing vocals nicely, not all members sing backup on all songs.....
