They've def both gone on record about it, I just have a really hard time thinking of how those lyrics apply to Richie. Unless we're talking abut Jon writing about Richie and his dad from Richie's perspective then I for sure see it.

By that point his dad had died and Heather had gone and he's had his little pain pills episode, no? There's a bit in WWWB where Richie's talking about the song on a boat, he talks about his dad and 'all the changes in his life' and says WLOL is the only song he 'didn't write, but Jon was still writing about me, I believe.'

I always read the california line as being where all the shit's going down for Richie, so it's time to get him out of the funk and onto the road. I don't think it's a big reach to read that song as from Jon to Richie without any non-attendance subtext to be honest, at the time anyway. He used to talk about how Jon helped him get himself back on track around that time.

Glad you had a good time, despite the flaws! :-)

That sequence in WDR is one thing I mentioned on the other thread back then, but sadly nobody noticed or replied to it. On one video, the word "GREAT" even turned into "RAT" for a second, then out fo the lyrics they just showed some words, including "DEVIL", and so on. Can definitely see some political motivation on Jon's part here ;-)

Good to hear! I've been thinking about taking my then 5 year old daughter to the show next year, if they do come to Europe, but have been indecisive so far as to whether that's something for kids to enjoy or not. I'll probably give it a shot ;-)

Yes I've been meaning to mention that I believe the "political" moment that was mentioned on twitter a few shows back was due to the words flashing during this song. The word "resist" also appears.

Jon himself is asking for help during the shows and nobody is listening to him

That part was actually pretty dope. I wish he did that whole verse in that slow style with Phil's licks in the background, not just the first two lines.

Didn't someone say in this very thread that there are no screen this time? This looks an awful lot like a screen-recording to me:p

I remember watching the official video for this for the first time of this and thinking, did Richie die? It's clearly all about him...his dad, Heather, custody battle, booze. The video though is black and white JBJ alone in a hotel room with slow fading pics of Richie in the background. It feels like your watching a "in memory of Richie Sambora" video...

Perhaps Jon keeps it in the set because he misses his right hand man and can't believe it's come to this. Or he keeps it because he can.

Maybe it's that piece of fabric they're projecting the intro on that's been hinted to make a re-appearance here and there during the set. But yeah, you're right...

I think he/she was talking about screens on the stage only. Those are (if I'm not mistaken) the screens up high in the middle of the arena hanging on the ceiling. I think it's called jumbotron and people on the floor can't see it . Someone correct me if I'm making this up xD

You are absolutely correct. There aren't any fancy video walls on/around stage this tour but the normal projection screens are around the arena.

That's what I thought. I had just been wondering since the last time that proper video screens (that actually showed footage of the band playing) were included in the stage design had been on the HAND tour. After that it was animations only and even on the WAN tour they had these columns in the back and no screens.
But thanks for clearing it up!
