They didn't play Always and I'll Be There For You (Always was their wedding song).

Jon's vocals were very weak at times.

They still put on a good show for the casuals. But as a diehard, I honestly don't have any interest in paying to see them this tour, even though I love the album.

I understand not doing Always most of the time (given how it sounded in LA, I'll never complain about it not being played ever again), but I don't get not doing I'll Be There For You. It's a much much easier song to sing, he sounded OK-ish that one time he played it in a fanclub gig (and still very decent in 2013). It will obviously be tough, but I can't see it sounding worse than Bad Medicine or HAND, for example.

Without that signature Bon Jovi ballad the set just drags.

I think one of the reasons that Jon avoids certain songs, apart from vocal reasons, is that Richie's harmonies are missing. IIRC, during a Q&A last tour, he said he won't do Miss 4th of July unless Richie came back. I do not think he said that just because he lacked the original guitarist.

Good to see a few changes. Not the changes we wanted but at least it's mixed up a bit.

Shame that 'Devils In The Temple' got dropped.

I don't buy it. First of all, Richie's vocals are much more missing in Wanted, and secondly (more importantly), IBTFY was played plenty of times since Richie left. I don't see why this would be an issue when it wasn't in 2013.

May I ask how old your brother is? I just don't get people going to a concert, paying a lot of money for it, and not having listened to the songs before, not even those that are already 9-17 years old like LH, Crash, etc.?

I think you really can't deal with someone actually being at the show and actually noticing some real flaws. Not everything can be masked by "being there in person", some struggles are too obvious.

C'mon, it's getting old. We get that you love those songs that you go on posting they should play, but it's neither realistic nor would everyone want to hear those songs... Not that you shouldn't be entitled to your opinion, but there's no reason for Jon to play those songs, so you'll always be disappointed that he doesn't...

Jon's voice is obviously shot, but the notion that he sounds bad being there in person is "fake news" perpetrated by mainstream media!!!!!!

It is all about opinion but for me the same 15 songs every show for the last 10 years is old...

I used to be able to stand for a whole show; now I can't without aggravating an old foot injury.

Another friend of mine has (invisible) chronic illnesses; she often has to sit and has trouble walking without assistance (but is always being accused of "faking it for attention" because she's so young).

And others might just be getting on a bit in age or whatever.

Doesn't mean we have less of a right to be at a rock concert.;)

I was at this show along with Columbus. Definitely thought this one was the better of the two. Jon talked a lot more and when he called out the girl for texting in the front row I loved it! Not going to comment on the vocals becuase you all have ears and will hear the youtubes and/or the official recordings. I personally am worn out but will say I stand the entire time. And after running 9 miles on Saturday, and then attending the show, this ol' lady was worn out lol!!

I think the problem is with the layout of the arenas. As far as I know, they have seats on the "floor" (is that the right word for it? I mean the area before the stage, where no steps are going up and it's just flat), or is that only the case for some? All concerts I've been to only had seats everywhere except the "floor", so that people could/had to stand there, and could sit on the seats, if they had booked some.

People with seats standing up is another thing. There you have to come to some sort of agreement with your neighbors, depending on how steep the steps from row to row are, etc.

That is correct. For the arena shows for Bon Jovi (and a lot of artists that play the US), the floor is seats.

True. But some of the Jon just genuinely likes (LH, WLOL, hell maybe even Working Man) and some I'd consider hits/must-plays. So that, combined with the 6 new songs and maybe 1 or 2 songs on rotation per night doesn't leave much room, unless they decide to play 26-29 songs again, which probably isn't what Jon wants to do nowadays.

Let's face it: this is the new songs + the hits + some songs Jon wants to play and/or thinks they will go over well, depending on city, state, country they play in... And I'm perfectly fine with it. I know what to expect and have a great time seeing the guys and singing along. I just hope they will tour Europe after all next year...

He's 36. He's the reason I got into Bon Jovi, because he used to listen to Slippery and NJ all the time at home when I was a young kid. But he lost all interest for the band after 2000. I've tried to show him some good post-2000 songs but he just doesn't care.

I don't get why people don't listen to the albuns before going to a show either, but it seems to be the case of 90% of the audience these days.

KeepTheFaith2211 03-20-2017 06:56 PM

I know I wasn't there and it doesn't matter etc but I don't think I could enjoy seeing that set. There are too many songs which just aren't good. That encore would have been blasted a couple of years ago.

Gabriel Shoes 03-20-2017 08:18 PM

Well, if anybody thinks Jon killed Always just embrace yourselves for These Days on the Europe leg.

He have a highly potential contender for Alpine Valley '03 as the worst These Days ever performed on planet Earth.

That one shares the worst award with Giants Stadium 06 (last show). They were both awful. And then came 2008 and 2010-2011......what changed?

I remember the first time he dusted always off in 2008 and I mean it was a real wow moment. All of a sudden we could almost expect anything to appear in the setlist. As you say it lasted for 3-4 years then declined.

Captmorgs 03-20-2017 11:21 PM

Isn't it odd they haven't booked a 2nd North American leg? No Portland, Seattle, Milwaukee, Boston, Montreal, etc.? Just these remaining shows, some random gig in NY in August, and then supposedly Europe in 2018? What's happening for the rest of 2017?

I hope not. Jon got a lot off his chest with his writing for THINFS and there was some good stuff due to that but I can't see him wanting to write about the same topics again/having a true inspiration for a new record. So we'd probably end up with stuff as inspired as WAN...

That was a joke... however a compilation album would be nice... I can't see a Greatest Hits or a Live Album from this tour, unless they take bits from each show and put them together to form a Greatest Hits from this tour...

What's left???

A Box Set or a Mini Box Set... I'd love a live CD of rarities... Songs that didn't get performed that much... Fear, Soul Truth, Cadillac Man, Life's Too Short, Hush, etc... Total stretch and would never happen but still cool...

supposedly there was more south american dates to accompany the Rio one, and some more dates for the latter half of the summer but so far nada. It's weird. Either Jon wants a break or they are waiting for the end of this leg to announce it to go for the whole "because of the demand we had to schedule more shows" bullshit that bands tend to go on.....

liljovi93 03-21-2017 01:30 AM

I'm disappointed that LYHOM has been completely dropped. A song that was a surprise staple for a good few songs has completely gone out the set and isn't even an audible now.

JBJ really doesn't have a clue sometimes.

March 19th 2017 - Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland Thread

Hey all.. just passing through to offer my thoughts on last night's show!

First, we all know his voice is not what it used to be. I've seen people here say that his vocal struggles aren't as noticeable if you're at the show. They were a absolutely right... that doesn't mean he sounds like at least 2010 level, but he sounded better than I thought he would live! He was stronger in some parts of HAND, Born to be my baby, and LYHOM than I expected he would be.. he struggled on Prayer and a little bit of Wanted. Overall, however, I was not disappointed with how he sounded! He also really worked the crowd, which was delightful to see. I saw the band in 2010 and 11, and the crowd interaction this time around was way better than the two previous times.

Let's talk about the crowd... I from what, I saw they seemed to really enjoy the new stuff (minus Scars... that song will bore anyone). I looked around the arena while Rollercoaster was playing and many people were jumping around, and it seemed to go over very well.

Now the set list...This House is a fantastic opener. And I absolutely love the reprise where Phil kicks into a second solo. I think the new songs they've been playing translate well live. This House, Rollercoaster, New Years Day, and We don't Run were awesome. And Captain Crash was back! (But sadly, with no confetti lol). But really, the crowd was into this song, sounded good. Yes, while we all know that they can do more with the current set list, I was fine with it, people around me seemed fine with it, so it's all good.. I wasn't expecting them to start the encore with Hey God, so it's all about setting low expectations, and just enjoy it for what it is, to be honest.

Here is a clip on my google drive of Phil's solo in LYHOM.. hopefully this link works!
