MSG postponed until 13/15 Apr, Denver cancelled

The story is on Billboard. On doctor's orders, Jon is postponing due to bronchitis.

JerseyGiant 04-07-2017 02:36 AM

Wow.... has this ever happened before?

Dicanio 04-07-2017 02:36 AM

Correct decision. Confirms in my mind that the show the other night shouldn't have gone ahead.

I don't believe they ever postponed due to Jon being ill before. Tico sprained a wrist in Australia in 1995 and had 2 surgeries in Mexico last world tour.

Damm... still we all get sick and I guess MSG is a huge stop on the tour... always is... Its sure been a crazy few days... From what I saw of the Philly show it was a cracker! ... roll on a healthy Jon and some killer MSG shows!

Captain.Crash 04-07-2017 02:53 AM

When I paid absurd money for the 2nd Toronto show I was really looking forward to seeing the final show of the tour... Now there's three more. Haha

ThePunisher 04-07-2017 03:06 AM

So if these MSG shows are April 13 and 15 where does Denver go? Their website says he's playing all three nights? That's impossible logistically.

TicketMaster still shows 13th-MSG. 14th-Den. And 15th- MSG. If true that's a lot of travel (granted they not exactly flying coach like us little people). And when is last time JBJ did 3 nights in a row?

I bet Denver is cancelled. Even if they have a leapfrogging rig, that's still almost impossible to pull off.

Lucky0003 04-07-2017 03:26 AM

Wow! Sorry to hear he had to postpone but it's the best when he's really sick.

The stress this man goes through would kill me. It would be great to be a "rock star" but also a pain in the ass having so many people planning on seeing YOU.

Bottom line -- we are all human just trying to get by, rock star or not. I wish JBJ well.

Wow bronchitis! Now thats serious, good decision to postponed, better safe than sorry, of course people here will bitch and complain as usual but health is no.1 priority. God willing he will be 100% next week and I think he will be more stronger and looking more foward to performing than anything else, he is going to give his best performance yet, IMO.

From memory, those epic Sydney shows in 2010 (Dec 17, 18 & 19) where they played STBI, I Believe, Dry County, These Days, Last Man Standing, Just Older, I'd Die For You, Homebound Train, Living In Sin, Never Say Goodbye, Something for the Pain... shall I go on?

Here is Billboard link on it - https://www.usnews.com/news/entertai...-weekend-shows

Yup, could turn into pneumonia. Health is #1 and preventing possible voice damage for the future. Always best to get well asap instead of letting it drag on and on.

Love your positive words that he will get well and then give the best shows ever.

Thought they would have waited to see how long it takes him to recover before rescheduling.

I'm guessing his Bronchitis peaked today (which is why they postponed) and unless he decides to really start singing in the shower, he will be fine by the 10th.

I think I read somewhere that singing or just being in the shower, especially a warm shower, its good for the throat, helps clear up any phlem, ok I hope I am not being too graphic when I say that, sorry! But I do remember reading this in some magazine, I could be wrong.

Becky 04-07-2017 04:22 AM

Every time I get a sore throat, it turns to bronchitis, even when I get a decadron shot immediately. If you're not careful, bronchitis will easily turn to pneumonia. It's good that he is following the doctor's recommendations. I can only imagine how painful it was to postpone.

Raise your hand if you're glad taking YOUR sick day doesn't affect 20,000 people.

bj4ever 04-07-2017 04:31 AM

Good call on their part.
Anxious to see what this means for Toronto as I'm driving there from Ottawa, just booked my hotel recently AND took my 2 personal days for the year on Monday and Tuesday (I have lots more but the personal days where the only legit ones I could take).

Anyways, for me....

Best case scenario: He's actually fine by Monday, although from what I've read, bronchitis can take 2-3 weeks to fully heal.

2nd best case: postponed to some (any) week end.

bad case: postponed to a weekday. I'm out over 600$ in tickets and hotel.

worst: he tries to sing and scraps his vocal chords even more.

JackieBlue 04-07-2017 04:51 AM

It's good to see that people are supporting Jon's decision to follow his doctor's advice. I feel bad for the fans who are disappointed; but I think it was a smart move. In the long run, personal health needs to come first, or else you're not going to be much good for anything else.

Kathleen 04-07-2017 05:14 AM

OMG - I know so many people who came here just for these shows. I feel for them. For me - I live here - it doesn't make that much difference.

kenobi_on_a_prayer 04-07-2017 06:27 AM

I know people who travelled from overseas to be at these shows and I feel really bad for them, but I think the correct decision's been made in terms of postponing. Not sure about having Denver in between though.

Not just the correct decision, but the ONLY decision when you think about it.

I feel for those who have traveled.

Yeah, Ronny was the first one I thought about when I learnt the news. :/

Walleris 04-07-2017 09:47 AM

Finally! Better late than never. Good decision Jon and the crew.

Let's hope he doesn't rush back and postpones as many shows as neccessary and come back to the same place he was on night 1 in Greeville. There are no other legs scheduled so they have all the time in the world to fulfil commitments and make people happy.

This.

Cue the people on this board that said that some "diehards will never be happy and would blame Jon for canceling".

I suspect Jon might not be getting this much support for the decision if he'd cancelled Pittsburgh and therefore not given us any "proof" that he was ill and not faking. Particularly after what happened at Mohegan Sun.

I'm not singling out or thinking of anyone in particular... it's just the way of the internet.

Exact. I don't know where the work ethic is when you know that you are sick and go to work knowing that you will not do well.

Canceling the show is the right thing to do and I'm glad that for the first time Jon had the balls to cancel a show putting his health ahead of the money of a couple of nights or that stupid idea of not disappointing his fans.

Well done Jon.

MellyMel 04-07-2017 04:00 PM

I hate this for those traveling, but I think overall it's the right decision. I have asthma, so at least 1/2 of the colds I get turn into bronchitis and it's rough. I get it 2-3 times a year. I've heard rumors Jon has asthma, anyone else heard that?

I guess Denver won't be getting the regular stage and full setup. It's impossible.

I'm actually one of those people. :)

That's why I'm surprised by the positive response; especially given Billboard's statement that he's been fighting this since last Saturday. Everyone seems to be in agreement that Philly was one of Jon's best performances since the tour started. That was on Friday and people have, at times, found it hard to believe that someone who performs at his best one night could possibly be fighting off bronchitis or something less than 24 hours later.

Fans often point out how Jon always carries on, despite obstacles that would stop ordinary mortals (illness, injury, grief, etc.). So I'm also pleasantly surprised that more people aren't disappointed that he actually used some common sense in this situation.

From what I've seen on this board, most people tend to assume the worst, especially when their apple carts have been upset. As Kenobi said, it's probably a good thing Jon didn't cancel Pittsburgh. Maybe that gives any skeptics in the room the "proof" they need that he isn't faking it, or canceling for other reasons.

Or maybe, just maybe, the "skeptics" are usually skeptical because of how Jon's performances and not his character and would thus react positively to any decision that would be based on improving his chances being fit to work; in this case - sounding better.

I heard somewhere here that they have two stages for exactly those kinds of situations.

nikos greece 04-07-2017 04:40 PM

i hope Jon gets well soon! I travelled from Greece and bought 2 tickets form me and my wife 350 Each...I bought the most expensive I could afford cause I wanted to enjoy the best show I could get. Do u know if there will be a refund??? It's a lot of money and would be unfair to just lose
Them, my stay in NYC can't be lengthened...

They have two stage but only one set of production so... I'm guessing Denver is going to be moved or cancelled.

I would check with the company from which you purchased your tickets for a refund. I read Facebook comments that Ticketmaster was issuing refunds. Hope that is true.

Sorry you will miss the concert.

Jon's mother reportedly told people he had asthma at a fan club event years ago. That is the source of that.
