Jon's best post-2011 vocal performances
Since there's already a "Jon's best post-OWN tour vocal performances" thread and the poor guy's voice has gone drastically downhill after the Circle/Greatest Hits tour, I'd like to ask you what do you think are among Jon's most impressive post-2011 vocal moments.
I'll start with a pretty solid version of These Days from Milan 2013: https://youtu.be/Tt4TCM8DAm0 Jon nailed most of the song quite well there - even the "Ain't nobody left..." at the end sounded tolerable. Always sounded phenomenal (for post-'11 standards) in Birmingham '13: https://youtu.be/h11Gz6M8nRs At the same show, the guys actually performed one of the best live versions of Happy Now I've come to hear yet. Around 1:57 (in the video) Jon even took the mic off the stand and belted out the "everybody's just tryin' to find a way home" with that legendary raspy voice of his that we all love so dearly. It actually gave me goosebumps on the first time I saw the clip, and sometimes still does - it always reminds me of the version of Love's The Only Rule from LA '10 where he fell on his knees and screamed the "I'm gonna fly..." with that same kind of a voice at the start of the last chorus: https://youtu.be/fTcsmEQPSXI And here's the version of Happy Now I was talking about: https://youtu.be/VBKDhBf0azY (check out 1:57) |
The best Happy Now version I've heard was from Sydney 2010. Jon probably still was posessed from the stunning STBI right before.

Doesn't post 2011 mean 2011 onwards yet some videos posted are from 2010?

Within each tour, I put together as many soundboard songs as possible... When I listen to The Circle tour, it's evident that Jon's voice is in great shape... and it's also evident that Richie harmonizes with Jon 30 to 40 percent on each song... Their voices match so well that it almost sounds like a natural Jon echo... It's a thing of beauty.
Jump forward to 2013, I have 2 folders set up... Soundboards with Richie and Soundboards with Phil... Although Jon's voices isn't as good as it was in '10, it was still pretty good... When I listen back and forth to the Richie and Phil songs, Jon's voice isn't too different... The struggling comes from the loss of harmonies. If you listen closely, there are times when Jon will stop singing for a second or two to catch his breath but Richie would sing through it so you don't notice... I just think without that relief, Jon burnt out his voice at the end of the BWC tour... Between that and stress, I think he damaged his chords even more... His tone has changed and I think it's beyond repair... Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk |
Always, Nashville, 3/6/13. 3:25-3:35 is fantastic.

I was just refering to the OP stating that he hadn't heard a better version of Happy Now than the 2013 one. |
Here's the last live performance of Living In Sin where Jon sounded listenable:
https://youtu.be/ShqfDIxMm8I (Columbus '13) Wild Is The Wind sounded VERY good in Cologne: https://youtu.be/NkjSvfkrhcI Jon pulled out his old voice again in Prague at the end of TAALS: https://youtu.be/8HfPJN-ocok Probably the last time Jon REALLY nailed the high part before the Prayer solo was in Buenos Aires '13: https://youtu.be/SGsQTx8LJk8 |

I'm pretty sure the Milan show was/is vocally Jon's best post-'11 gig - he hit many notes and nailed most of the songs really well that night:
https://youtu.be/OBiL54RYl0o Oh, what I could give to hear Jon sing like that again... let alone the way he sang in '08-'11. |
