Some people are quite easily pleased

symbeline 09-15-2017 01:53 PM

The fans that pay to see the shows are easily entertained but they are the ones keeping the band alive in 2017 so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm doing some mechanical programming tasks and I have the show playing on background which I haven't done in a while so I guess this is definitely an improvement.

I wouldn't pay to go see BJ right now though... poor setlist

Another video for Wanted

Is a set that features Bed Of Roses, In These Arms, I'll Be There For You and These Days realistically poor (by post-2011 standards)?

DryCounty 09-15-2017 02:05 PM

For 2017 standard Jon sounds pretty decent. I hope he can keep it up. Props for giving some tough songs a shot, even though it's worrying how there's only 3 THINFS songs left in the set list. Not even Roller Coaster seems strange to me.

Like some has mentioned, the lack of movement is more worrying.

- Only three songs from the album they are promoting
- Basically only hits and the songs that are hits on Jon's mind (and nobody cares about)
- No album cuts from any era

Yeah, poor to me. Which is why I said *I* wouldn't pay. I've heard them all. There's nothing exciting that pikes my interest. Jon doesn't care about me (ie fans who appreciate crazy setlists more than once in 5 years), and I'm fine with that. I don't spend my money, I don't feel cheated. They still sell pretty well to the fans that are not like me. Win-win

Same as stadium shows have always been. Did THINFS sell much in Chile?

The setlist (especially in comparison to the US tour) is actually quite decent and would be the last point I'd currently complain about. :D

Nah, the ditching the album cuts trend started with the LH tour I think, whether the album sold in that place or not. The 2015 stadium tour had some wacky songs (like Radio, who the hell knows that song there?). They could throw in a couple of "rarities" and I'll give them a gold star for the effort.

I totally accept that the fans that go see BJ in 2017 want this and Jon is smart enough to give them what they want. They are his bread and butter. But I don't accept the excuses, they could do much better and cater to all fans like they've done in the recent past

Um...I'm just pointing out that both of those are album cuts, not singles, not hits, so your point about there being no album cuts from any era is wrong...

And another IML

steel_horse75 09-15-2017 03:14 PM

The test is how will JBJ sound tomorrow night?

CaptainKiddOnSunset 09-15-2017 03:19 PM

The new Jon: sings better in Spanish than English. Good show from what I've seen, like. Agree with steel_horse75 like, how will tomorrow sound?

He sounds great on Wanted. Totally on awe when I saw BOR. I think JBJ might prove us wrong once the band hit a long hiatus. But he's still far from sounding decent though.

Clearly :D the Chile version actually sounds much better than the one from Madrid '13! Check this out for yourselves:

https://youtu.be/E2vezUdZb3Q

Jon is VERY flat throughout all the choruses, whereas in Chile he manages to sing the whole song in tune:

Oops... Jon's backing track on Prayer had an off day:

KSantaFe 09-15-2017 04:29 PM

Bed of Roses with the Spanish choruses was a really fun listen on YouTube, as was IBTFY. Jon was pretty decent on Wanted also. IML and GBTM were poor - particularly disappointed with the latter as that's one of my faves off THINFS and was fun live in the N. American leg. They really need to cycle through BAT, RC and Devil's for GBTM and Knockout. Aside from that - safe to say this was probably the best gig they've done in ages!

steel_horse75 09-15-2017 04:45 PM

Any KTF vids?
Looked on youtube and Twitter but cant see any

Maybe he's singing in key here, but in terms of pronunciation, I couldn't understand what he was signing for the most part. Not criticizing at all, any singer that makes an effort with another language is ok in my book. And his English has also been pretty hard to understand on the last tours

I have to admit that I've never heard Spanish BOR. Only the occasional live performance. Is it any good? I don't like it when non-natives try signing their songs in another language, I mean like I said I think it's super cool and a great treat for fans, but it sounds so strange to me that I never manage to enjoy them

Thinny 09-15-2017 05:03 PM

TheOriginalJez 09-15-2017 05:03 PM

Well, I just depressed myself. Remembered Dublin 2011 when we got Bounce as an opener and wanted to watch the video again - Jon moves more in 10 seconds of that performance than he does in combination of all the videos posted so far from last night - this was a show after he buggered his knee on that tour too; he can still sing and then I started going through my own videos from that show and started remembering that set list...

We're calling last night good... that night we got Bounce, Damned, Never Say Goodbye, Love For Sale, Hey God, Always - on top of Saturday Night, IBTFY and the other staples we don't get now (BOB, album songs from The Circle. LTOR was a ****ing epic closer.)

I mean, you have to work with what you've got but good god this has gone downhill fast. Doubt we'll ever see the likes of that night again :/

FWIW I enjoyed that Bed of Roses enough to watch it twice in a row, instead of just once with a wince and sigh. ;)

I don't speak Spanish, but I've heard that Miro Tu Ventana is the best translated Jovi song. Would you agree?

symbeline 09-15-2017 06:21 PM

*covers her ears* I don't want to listen to any BJ song in Spanish
*covers her eyes* or read any lyrics

:-D:-D

Most singers can't convey what they want to say in another language which is only logical. I remember being a huge Shakira fan until she started singing in English. Her pronunciation was perfect but the lyric quality took a huge dip, and it wasn't even a direct translation. She just couldn't be as "artistic" no matter how good her English is (well and she turned into a different singer, that too)

CaptainKiddOnSunset 09-15-2017 06:28 PM

First time in MANY YEARS I've enjoyed a performance of Sleep...it was actually played somewhat up tempo. Just wish it had a jumpin Jack medley

Yes,from the 3 songs in spanish (not including Richies In it for Love) ,for me,the best one is Miro a tu ventana.
On the 3 songs, the spanish lyrics have almost nothing to be with the original ones, but Miro a tu ventana is the closest one.
Though the lyrics are a bit different,Jons pronunciation is also the best one wich makes it the best for me.
Then would be,Como yo nadie the ha amado.
Again the lyrics are different, for example the title:
"This aint a love song" would be "Esta no es una canción de amor"
And we have in spanish:
"Como yo nadie te ha amado" that in english would be something like "Nobody has loved you like me" or something like that.
Finally, the worst, althought the title is the same,is,by far,Cama de Rosas.
But,like it has been said up this topic,I really appreciate his effort to have recorded those songs and sometimes sing them live.
I really enjoyed the two times I have seen Cama de Rosas live.
But believe me,dont try to translate it to english
