So happy to hear the improvement over this leg, and to see Jon being a frontman and not a statue. :onfire:

Please watch the last minute of this (start at 5:40 minutes) and if you don't get chills, I'll buy you a drink... I actually have tears running down my face... Simply Perfect!!!!

Bon Jovi - These Days - 09/23/2017 - Live in Sao Paulo, Brazil - YouTube

Yeah... watching that made me remember why I am a Bon Jovi fan. Jon still is one badass motherf***er!

Thinny 09-24-2017 06:07 PM

The vocals have improved, probably as much as we can expect. Are they amazing?...far from it...BUT the real improvement for me has been Jon as a front man. It's been nice to see his confidence grow over these shows and see him actually working the stage again, and mostly looking like he's having fun again!

I think these shows were really make or break for the band as far as continuing as a live act is concerned. If Jon felt these shows didn't work then next year wouldn't have happened. It's no coincidence that before these shows Phil said Eurpe next year "maybe", then a few shows in it got changed to "definitely"....

nikos greece 09-24-2017 07:07 PM

true this leg of the tour gave some confidence back...i m sure even jon wasnt sure how it was gonna turn out...but looked like he found himself again...have you ever seen him giving hi fives in the middle of the show??? even tico put out his drum stick to congratulate in the ending of saturday night,,,
the only other time i saw jon that genuiely happy and proud was giants 2001...we are back...we can do it...
i hope jon keeps improving and keeps writing songs and trying new things...these videos from last night made a lot of people happy for the band, they needed it and we needed it for sure.
ps. i always liked to watch live videos of the band, but the last years especially since richies departure i couldnt enjoy them. i still miss richie but i ll happilly watch again and again the last 2 south american shows...these crowds deserve a bj dvd for sure...

IKR! I miss the Richie from 6/7 years ago... the nowadays one has no place in Bon Jovi! I will always miss his presence there, but he's going in opposite directions the band is going.
Whatever, the show must go on.
Phil is rocking!!!

Same for me here, it was a real pain to see the vids of the earlier performances this year, and lets be honest... from 2013 too.
RiR and last night gave me joy to watch them perform again.
I'm so happy, so ****ing happy, I have no words.
So glad Jon's "found himself" again.

I said after the Always performance in Greenville that it may have been the last vintage Jon performance as a vocalist and I was right. Now my guess is that this was his last vintage performance as a frontman. As much as I loved seeing that, I cannot see how this can be sustainable. Those amazing SA crowds surely brought whatever was left of the Jon we love.

Speaking of chills, this gave me quite a few - 7:50 onwards - Jon being so full of pride again and the guys fist-bumping him, wow!

Wow, I do not know if this has been something punctual or really change the course, whatever it is, there was some magic in Sao Paulo, and that's fabulous. It is the first time in the whole tour I see that this happens.

Wow, that's probably the first positive comment I've ever seen from you about Bon Jovi without Richie! Congratulations, man! :D

Interesting band introduction

On Phil X from 2.00
"Phil X made his mark in this band, he's made his mak in this band for well over 100 + shows. He's gonna be here forever and a day."

Not trying to make a point in any way, just a pretty clear statement from Jon that he's not looking back anymore. Have to say Phil deserves it. What a way he has stepped in and filled the shows we never though were possible to fill.

Rdkopper 09-24-2017 10:28 PM

When Jon was doing the Ooooooo's at the end of These Days, his voice was perfect... Not sure what note or key that was in but his voice and energy brought me back to the Lay Your Hand On Me video back in 1989... That's the way to end the leg... I want a SBD of that These Days...

What made me quite positive is how he has been quite steady with his vocals (of course still extremly restricted, but there are signs that he's at least not completely done) for those 4 SA shows. In the USA there were much more fluctuations from night to night. Plus he seems to have finally realized that working the stage and really interacting with the band/crowd can cover more of the flaws. I hope he takes some confidence back from these shows and builds on that. Still a long way to go, but we may get there in the end.

Panda 09-24-2017 11:26 PM

My first thought when I saw the setlist:

Best set list of the tour. No bullshit half tempo thinfs songs, and it seemed fresh and upbeat and had an actual rhythm and flow.

Then I watched the videos. No, Jon does not have his 2011 voice back. I saw 14 shows on the 2010/11 tour with 6 of them being in Europe. Not even close to the same voice.

However, the passion is back. These videos demonstrated to me that he actually wanted to be there and loved what he did. And I would take passion over an excellent voice any day of the week.

That is very sad. It broke my soul.

Spot on and perfectly summed up!

Thinny 09-24-2017 11:44 PM

Yeah, a lot of people blowing his improved voice completely out of proportion here. Better for sure, but not close to 2011 standards....but i get that they are excited about the improvement, which is cool...

I get your sentiment, but Axl and Slash both said countless times they'd never play together in this lifetime and look who headlined Rio 2 nights after Bon Jovi, so you never know.

rokenrola 09-24-2017 11:57 PM

he will never be 2011.voice shape, but his behavior is much better with every show, more important the band is great, tight and playing is great, they are comfortable with themselves,I am hoping for Belgrade or Zagreb or Budapest date for Europe tour next year!

Thinny 09-25-2017 12:02 AM

The shows seemed like fun for the first time in a long time and I'd take that over a perfect voice any day. I do find it sad how many were already criticising his vocals in 2011, but now we cling to hopes of a return to that form...

There are way more of us here. I just hope it's just words and words can be said and unsaid. Like I've read somewhere:

I mean, I can hope that what he meant is that even if Richie's back in the band (yeah:rolleyes:) Phil will remain there...

...right?

sigh.

Richie will never be coming back. That’s my take on this. Pretty sure Phil has a contract with Jon as the solo guitar player.

ya I know. It was just me dreaming.
I know the reality.
And tbh if Richie's gonna do what he's doing now, Phil's better for the band.
Coldly analyzing...

Wow! So happy for JBJ and hope he knows he really can loosen up and bring it because he certainly did!

I'm smiling from ear to ear with tears in my eyes!

Yes, the microphone twirl! Maybe there's really magic in that thing!!!

We're not sitting in Jon's mind and we don't know what's happening behind closed doors. He can say whatever he wants at the moment. We know that the history is being rewritten all the time, anyway :3

Roses was incredible! I hope that young girl was legal! LOL! I've never come across a BOR video in which he was so friendly and for so much of the song with a BOR girl/woman. It wasn't just a quick dance and kiss during the guitar solo.

In one video after she descends the catwalk stairs I see Matt take her hand and he looks OK with what had transpired.

Really? I thought it was head and shoulders better than Los Angeles.

Phil X being there till the end doesn't mean that Richie will never be back... At 55 and considering his current vocal state, Jon doesn't have another 10 years left in him... Once he finishes this tour by next year, I give him one more after that...

Something will bring Jon and Richie back together for one final show... An award or something... Maybe the RnR Hall Of Fame, if Jon even accepts it if offered.. I could see Phil on Jon's Left and Richie replacing Shanks on the right...

Don't get what everyody has against Shanks as a touring member. He is miles better then Bobby in every way (except vocally, which is why Everett is there). Visually he suits the band, his playing is great, he has a great tone, understands his role as a rhytm guitarist (mostly) on stage and has co-written a lot of Bon Jovi songs. Mostly, it looks like he is having a great time on stage compared to Bobby which looked like he was coming right from a 9 to 5 office.

Then he knows that 90% of the people who complain here will LOVE to be proven wrong and want the best for the band.

Some even *gasp* like *gasp* and admire *double gasp* Jon and are sad to see him reduced to what we saw on the NA leg

If the BJ camp has people checking boards and social media (pretty sure they do as every other major company has), this is one of the less critical places they'll find. Most of the criticism here, while harsh, comes from frustration and love for the band
