Well that's on Jon then... Thanks for explaining!

We got it earlier than else were supposed to. Everyone is forgetting that and it just sounds spoiled that we are mad at the label for not changing everything to fit that. I'm really thinking they have promotions lined up to capitalize on the Rock Hall Induction.

No, I understand that it was earlier than supposed to be...but it's done, already happened. My question is about the way that the label deals with it...like nothing happened and no one listened to the song. You see?

Are you guys REALLY angry that the label did not punish Stern for having played the single? Because that's what this boils down to. Labels have schedules, and they won't drop it just because one station played the song earlier.

jon-flp 01-26-2018 09:34 PM

I'm not angry with the label. And Stern played it just because Jon told him to do it. I'm just trying to understand. Although it was played just in one station, the fact is that everyone already have access to the song, as it's on youtube and everywhere. My point is why the label just act like they don't know about this. Only this :)

Why is this an issue? People who would buy the song are still going to buy it. People who were going to steal it are still going to steal it. It makes no difference in the big picture.

Exactly - so why can't the label be a bit pro-active once they know it's out there.

I think it could cost them because many of their songs nowadays wear off rather fast since there isn't that much substance in the music anymore. When it's out there and people see it on Youtube, they might like it (because it's actually quite catchy) and look for the song on official platforms in proper quality. If they wait a month many random fans will have forgotten about the song or, as stated above, it may have worn off on them.
With nowadays sale figures it may not make a big dent, but I still think it was a rather dull move not to reach and push the release by about two or three weeks.

Yeah they've missed the ball on this one, once its out there they should have got it on Spotify and iTunes ASAP on the first available Friday to capitalise on the buzz from the fans. Waiting a few weeks just lets it all die down again. They could have pro-actively got some exposure and then give it a second burst in a few weeks on the originally planned date. The business is too fast moving to expect consumers to wait weeks these days, they had their window and they didn't take it.

imo i don't think that much people heard this song on youtube...at least not random fans...diehards will buy it regardless

Jeeper 01-27-2018 02:10 PM

There will be people who initially liked the song (enough to purchase it had it been available) but who have now grown bored of it and therefor won’t buy it when it is officially released. That’s why radio playing it weeks before it’s released is “harmful” from a commercial viewpoint.

The song is still ok for me. Could have been better.
