What happened to Bon Jovi %&*^#? *sigh*

Ed Sheeran is the hottest artist in the world right now and if new Bon Jovi music was as good as Ed's, I'd be really happy. It isn't.

rolo_tomachi 02-22-2018 08:15 PM

I think that the best way to see this is that there are only two songs released (as it happened with the GH 2010) and are only there to add new material.

I do not think they sound like Walls on the next album. One positive thing, Jon's voice sounds good in the studio, so there will be more albums.

SuperBrad 02-22-2018 08:17 PM

Walls is awesome !

I though you had better taste :p

I can't tell apart Ed Sheeran from Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes and all the others whose names I forget the second I stop listening to their songs. They are just too forgettable and similar. Same with many female artists.

I'd chose Imagine Dragons over Ed Sheeran every time.

Now, if only Jon tried to make good songs instead of regurgitating old and better ideas all the time... A rotten apple is rotten no matter how beautifully you try to wrap it

trevrox 02-22-2018 08:25 PM

No full song yet? Just the sample?

I think you're judging style over substance. I imagine in the 80s there were people who couldn't tell apart Bon Jovi from Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant or Winger, etc.

I'm not calling Sheeran an all time great (not yet), but he's a great talent and a quality songwriter, as evident by a long list of hits he wrote for other artists, not just himself. It's OK if his music isn't your cup of tea, but comparing him to Shawn Mendes is just offensive!

Ed is pure talent and his popularity is not about being cheap and sell-out with catchy tunes and shallow lyrics. The guy has something to say and he can sing for sure. Call me a fan!

Not a fan of Ed Sheeran at all, but I can't stop playing Axel Rudi Pell's version of I See Fire

Thinny 02-22-2018 08:46 PM

Doesn't Jon see that his constant obsession with copying whoever is the latest trend, whether it's The Killers or Ed or Imagine Dragons or whoever, is one of the reason that Bon Jovi is not taken seriously by some.

U2 don't do that. Bruce never did that! You don't see any of the acts that will go down as all time legendary artists doing that. If he'd stick to his guns, no pun intended, and stayed true to the Bon Jovi sound he would have a lot more respect these days. I honestly don't know who he wants this band to be anymore....he's just constantly chasing hits. He needs to stop that and write from the heart more....when he does that's when he truly shines as a songwriter....

Did I just hurt your Ed Sheeran fanboy feelings?

I'm just taking the piss really. I don't have a strong opinion about him. There are some songs I totally dig (I absolutely love his collaboration with Eminem) and others that are nails on chalkboard to me. He does seem to be talented as a songwriter and performer but the fact that he's up Taylor's Swift ass makes him lose all the points with me. Not really, I just find his voice a lil bit annoying.

My complain about artists nowadays sounding too similar is still valid though. It's not the style as you said, I guess the production is too sterile and homogeneous to make the listening experience easy on the ears? That's my theory anyway, take any charts list and it's pretty linear within the diferent musical genres. Same with the radio, any top40 station will play safe music and by safe I don't mean lyrically but nothing too outrageous.

Of course there are a few unique artists but you know how this is. The imitators will pop everywhere until a new big artist/music cycle comes.

I've always listened to top40 radio and I could tell artists apart. And there was always only a couple popular genres really, so it should have been as linear as it is nowadays. But Michael Jackson didn't sound like Prince. Or Mariah Carey like Whitney Houston. And Mötley Crue didn't sound like Cinderella.

But you're using specific examples to bolster your point. The music industry almost ALWAYS has waited until something big struck to sign 30 artists that sound the same and pump the out. The grunge movement, the boy band movement, the nu-metal movement. A lot of the times they were interchangeable on the top 40, that hasn't changed.

jon-flp 02-22-2018 08:53 PM

We know if tomorrow this gonna be available on spotify or we gonna have to wait weeks?? :(

I want to listen the full version...

From the information we have it sounds like tomorrow it debuts on Tidal only and Spotify will most likely get it in a week or two.

I will know for sure in 3 hours (midnight in Lithuania, where I'm from) when all new tracks become available each Friday.

I'm sure it'll be available. If anyone wants, the song can be purchased on itunes Singapore already (When We Were Us too).

Captain_jovi 02-22-2018 09:03 PM

You have to live in the country that is selling it to purchase otherwise it boots you back to the one you should be in, where it isn't up yet :(

Have you brought the two new songs, from there? .....Just seen Captain jovi's post.

It's about timezones, not about which countries are selling it and which ones not. New music becomes available when the clock strikes midnight on Friday; which already is the case in Singapore.

Are you sure? I try to buy it from the Singapore itunes and get "This Apple ID is only valid for purchases in the Canadian iTunes Store. You will be switched to that store".

I meant that once Friday starts in Canada (at midnight) the songs should appear in the Canadian store. That's how digital releases work these days most of the time.

Captain_jovi 02-22-2018 09:41 PM

Oh, absolutely, I was just disagreeing with phoenixy because I thought the point was made you could buy it in the Singapore store even if you're not in Singapore.

I didn't try to buy it, but I thought everyone can buy it, I was wrong then (I don't use itunes anyway).
Edit: Anyway what I wanted to say was, that it's already in the itunes singapore store, so it should be available in spotify and other services tomorrow (Oh, and we should get a friend from Singapore).

danfan 02-22-2018 10:37 PM

Incredibly annoying, and stupid not to make the song available for purchase more than a month since it started popping up on YouTube. No need to tease or promote. Fans will buy it if you release it. If you wait too long, they'll get it other ways.

Thierry 02-22-2018 11:12 PM

What a turd once again... this song is from the same band that previously recorded epic songs like Wild is the wind and something to believe in... laughable!

Captain_jovi 02-22-2018 11:34 PM

Im surprised the full song isn't on youtube yet.

This. Thank you.

If anything, her examples even weaken her point in some aspects. Whitney and Mariah are definitely not more unique from each other than Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, whether someone can "tell them apart" or not is reflective on the listener, not artist uniqueness. Surely, a lot of artists copy each other, but there's nothing new. Hell, even Bon Jovi felt that when so many bands in late 80s were doing those big anthem choruses sang by multiple layers of backup vocals.

Walleris 02-23-2018 12:07 AM

It's midnight here and the two songs are on Spotify (on a re-released THINFS album)!

So I guess the TIDAL deal was only related to the music video.

That band does not exist anymore.

You can buy them on Norwegian iTunes now. And it's still 22 February. 22 minutes to 23 February.

Could one of you who's got Walls put it up on YouTube? I'm itching to hear it (without downloading it illegally) but we Americans still got about 6 hours before we can buy it...

I haven't had a chance to listen to anything yet, but I take it this is where the "We call home" chants that Shanks and Phil-X were doing in the studio fit in?

It is already on Spotify in Spain.

symbeline 02-23-2018 01:22 AM

I was going to post that it's on Spotify already

WWWU sounds slightly clearer, maybe it's my ears but the guitar sounded a little bit more drowned down. The drums sound really great

Walls: The combo thunder and lighting in the first verse is a wink wink right? Now that I hear the whole deal it's pretty clear that they listened to the last Imagine Dragons album on repeat. It has a strong Whatever it takes vibe. Very bland song overall

Agreed on the Whatever It Takes comparison.

It's even worse than WWWU, I'd be embarassed if any of my friends or family heard it. Luckily, that is extremely unlikely to happen the way this whole release was executed :D You have to be a fan to hear these songs.

symbeline 02-23-2018 01:31 AM

The solo is Phil I'm guessing. Sounds better than usual

Why oh why are the vocals so slow

Alphavictim 02-23-2018 01:45 AM

I like Walls' verses. The chorus lacks an extra oomph.

Also, bonus tracks or not, opening with WWU doesn't really work IMO.

oh c'mon man give it a break... there are definitely much worse songs out there and there are much worse songs made from bon jovi...not saying this is dry county level, absolutely, but is not even "embarassing". Walls is imagine dragons's style, was produced in a very "let's take one of the most famous tracks nowadays and just copy it to make it radio-friendly" way and this makes me think that this is not retire time for bon jovi
as some of us said after yesterday's " victory lap" thing

Roll 02-23-2018 01:49 AM

I think Walls and WWWU are both ok even if Walls is better in my opinion. But too much similar to whatever it takes to be honest though.
Anyway I always like hearing Jon's voice on something new. He's still great on records. The miracles of technology.
