Have to give Jon credit, in trying something different in "Walls", It's not the worse song I heard but I prefer, "when we were us" of the two songs.

"When we are us", sounds like what a mid 50's Jon would produce. Great? No. It's not the 80's or 90's or 00's. That Chapter of Bon Jovi is gone. But a OK song for where Jon is for his age, and vocals now.

Walls is imagine dragons's style, was produced in a very "let's take one of the most famous tracks nowadays and just copy it to make it radio-friendly" way and this makes me think that this is not retire time for bon jovi
as some of us said after yesterday's " victory lap" thing

Thanks for letting me know what I could and could not be embarrassed about. I now have completely changed my opinion on a song because you disagreed with me.

gareththyer1990 02-23-2018 02:17 AM

The two new tracks aren’t so bad I guess. Heard worse. Thumbs up to Jon for trying something different with Walls.

bonbevan 02-23-2018 02:33 AM

Just downloaded the songs, I know walls isnt keep the faith or these days (to name a few great songs) but as a song in its own right, it sounds fresh and I’ll enjoy blasting it out in the car tomorrow :) I heard it once and it’s already in my head.

Yairis 02-23-2018 06:45 AM

Amazing, but...

Love the new song. But I need help...
Can anyone give me the lyrics of "Walls"? I don´t know speak in English... I'm so bad

Thomas S 02-23-2018 07:21 AM

The new songs are fine. They're about what you'd expect. Catchy and listenable but nothing to write home about.

They've got the potential to be really fun live songs, but after the performance of WWWU at the IHeartRadio show, I'm not so sure.

Zakatar 02-23-2018 07:40 AM

Walls has finally come out in my time zone. I'm enjoying it much more than WWWU, but somehow hoping that the band's next album (if there is one) doesn't take this new sound to heart. It's one of the poppiest songs they've done to date, and I thought Knockout was poppy enough.

Thomas S 02-23-2018 08:27 AM

Music video for WWWU is out on Tidal now. It's cheesy as hell (especially the bit with Jon & Phil on the phone) but it made me smile all the same.

The cinematography was awesome though. The parts with the band rocking out on stage all looked fantastic. The close up on Jon's face looked super artificial though, and every time it came on screen I kind of cringed to be honest.

kleman 02-23-2018 08:35 AM

So where is tho whole song ? From what i heard so far, i like it.

Zakatar 02-23-2018 09:04 AM

I'm seeing some similarities between the release of Walls and WWWU and the release of We Don't Run and Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning. SNGMSM leaked earlier than WDR, and had a more familiar sound, while WDR had a new sound we hadn't heard from the band before. WWWU has a more familiar sound, while Walls obviously has that new, Imagine Dragons-influenced sound we weren't all expecting

cqleonardo 02-23-2018 09:12 AM

I love Walls, way better than When We Were Us, great song

Thinny 02-23-2018 09:59 AM

So is the new version of THINFS Digital only? No physical CD release?

symbeline 02-23-2018 10:28 AM

Fine if you don't like Walls, but it's not pop!

I wish they haven't buried so much the "We call home" part and the oooooohhhh's that Shanks and Phil were doing. It sounded great.

The song would improve greatly with a different cadence, it's too slow for Jon's voice and it won't translate well live, and also with higher backing vocals for an extra punch. I like that they didn't go for the tired and lazy anthemic choruses we all love to hate but Jon sounds too robotic and slow on the chorus

There was never plans for a physical release for all I've read. But I've been checking anyway and nothing... nada...

It's a shame cos I've have bought another copy. I'm not buying singles since I pay for Spotify premium.

I don't even think they expect people to buy them, since there has been little promotion and they released the video on fvcking Tidal

Thomas S 02-23-2018 10:37 AM

Have the full lyrics to Walls been posted yet?

My momma told me
When I was younger
"You better speak up"
"Don't be a number"
My daddy told me
When there was thunder
"Go be the lightning"
"Don't run for cover"

Who's gonna help the helpless?
Sometimes we're all alone
These days we're all just looking for a place that we call home

Now we can't climb over and you can't go round
Build them up, we'll tear them down
Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall
Build more bridges and tear down walls

These walls
Are the mountains that we climb
These walls
Are the great divide

Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall
Build more bridges, tear down walls

This space between us
Is getting wider
We need the spark to
Light the fire
Show me the promise
Give me some feeling
There's too much hurting
We need some healing

Who's gonna help the helpless?
Sometimes we're all alone
These days we're one step closer to that place that we call home

Now we can't climb over and you can't go round
Build them up, we'll tear them down
Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall
Build more bridges and tear down walls

These walls
Are the mountains that we climb
These walls
Are the great divide

Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall
Build more bridges, tear down walls

(Solo)

I remember when the world was smaller
And we both felt ten feet taller

Now we can't climb over and you can't go round
Build them up, we'll tear them down
Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall
Build more bridges and tear down walls

These walls
Are the mountains that we climb
These walls
Are the great divide

Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall
Build more bridges, tear down walls

Omg, c'mon Jon, are you kiddin me?? This performance is night and day from the iHeart one.. Especially vocally.

kleman 02-23-2018 10:59 AM

Agree, this is miles better than iheart!

steel_horse75 02-23-2018 11:13 AM

Downloaded new songs.
Prefer Walls as I think JBJ sounds a bit 90s JBJ on it.
On WWWU I dont like the bridge before the (utterly shit Jon Shanks) solo - it kills the momentum of the song

Walls 7/10
WWWU 6/10

I have 2 major issues....

First - why oh why when you download these 2 new tracks do they go to the start of THINFS? They should be on the end. Now the album doesnt open with the title track. Annoying.

Second - this is more important - JBJ Has hired a Rock Guitarist in Phil X yet the solos on new songs and THINFS are utter turd. Whats the point of having a great player if youre not gonna use him. The solos are getting worse and worse when they should be getting longer and better.

This! Phil is just wasted in the band. What's the point. Boring unimaginative solos. It's Phil playing on the live versions on WWWU, but it's just another boring solo. I don't get it. That song was begging for a monster solo...

Might as well sack off Phil X and let Jon Wanks play all the guitars in his whinny dulcet tones.

Bounce7800 02-23-2018 11:52 AM

I actually really like Walls. For what it is as one of a couple of extra tracks, it's pretty listenable. WWWU is still pretty boring Jovi by the numbers, of the tracks to focus on promoting, as per usual they chose the wrong one.

The chorus is pure modern pop. It's all in the production. I could have been a great rock track if they'd have done it differently. Rock doesn't get played on the radio, but this sounds like a modern commercial radio track...

but Bon Jovi have been a pop band that occasionally do a rock track for a while now. Nothing wrong with that, but that's not what I want from Bon Jovi. I think songs like WWWU, THINFS are songs that I can believe the band I grew up listening to became. But stuff like Walls, BWC, BAT, Knockout....not what I wanted them to become. I'd rather the band sounded like the band rather than constantly trying to sound like other people...

Just my opinion folks...

At least on Spotify, they shortened the last chord ringing and fading out on the title track. It's 10 seconds shorter. I guess they needed time to make it all fit on one CD, but I don't really understand why - it 56 minutes, CDs can take much more, and the shortened end sounds really awkward.

Thinny 02-23-2018 01:15 PM

Spotify and iTunes versions have identical endings here.... 3:34

WILDJOVIMAN 02-23-2018 02:10 PM

will there be a CD Re-Release ?

That performance was so much better than the radio show.

Still dont like the way the songs stops for the bridge.

Xavi 02-23-2018 02:48 PM

The songs have the same estructure over and over again for nearly 10 years.
Its boring.
Jon needs desperately to work with others songwriters.

danfan 02-23-2018 03:06 PM

God, I can't stand Shanks and Randy Jackson's twin. They have no place on that stage.

I LOVE Everett Bradley. If you've ever seen him perform outside of the Bruce/Bon Jovi band stuff you might appreciate him more but then again, maybe not. I think he adds a much needed energy, Shanks not so much but I'd rather him over Bobby any day.

Their not Bon Jovi - theyre added extras that are not needed.

And get a new producer that wont let him produce/write the same shit that hes dished up for last 15 years

This is a load of hooey. They're going to sound how Jon wants to sound no matter who produces. Jon's calling the shots here and paying pretty dearly to do what he wants. Frigging Bob Rock produced the RSO Eps and it's not like those songs are favourites of the board. Who do you think could come in and make Jon write like you want him to again? Nobody.

Agreed, I think that's fantasy talk that a new producer suddenly makes what fans think ails the band suddenly cured so to speak. I have never been locked into the whole idea of it has to be 5 guys on the stage thing ever. Doesn't bother me at all to have added players if it fills out the sound and vocals as long as the others are there.

Have you got a link to watch the video for When we were us?
Thanks
