Have to give Jon credit, in trying something different in "Walls", It's not the worse song I heard but I prefer, "when we were us" of the two songs.
"When we are us", sounds like what a mid 50's Jon would produce. Great? No. It's not the 80's or 90's or 00's. That Chapter of Bon Jovi is gone. But a OK song for where Jon is for his age, and vocals now. |

The two new tracks aren’t so bad I guess. Heard worse. Thumbs up to Jon for trying something different with Walls.
|
Just downloaded the songs, I know walls isnt keep the faith or these days (to name a few great songs) but as a song in its own right, it sounds fresh and I’ll enjoy blasting it out in the car tomorrow :) I heard it once and it’s already in my head.

Amazing, but...
Love the new song. But I need help...
Can anyone give me the lyrics of "Walls"? I don´t know speak in English... I'm so bad  |
The new songs are fine. They're about what you'd expect. Catchy and listenable but nothing to write home about.
They've got the potential to be really fun live songs, but after the performance of WWWU at the IHeartRadio show, I'm not so sure. |
Walls has finally come out in my time zone. I'm enjoying it much more than WWWU, but somehow hoping that the band's next album (if there is one) doesn't take this new sound to heart. It's one of the poppiest songs they've done to date, and I thought Knockout was poppy enough.
|
Music video for WWWU is out on Tidal now. It's cheesy as hell (especially the bit with Jon & Phil on the phone) but it made me smile all the same.
The cinematography was awesome though. The parts with the band rocking out on stage all looked fantastic. The close up on Jon's face looked super artificial though, and every time it came on screen I kind of cringed to be honest. |
So where is tho whole song ? From what i heard so far, i like it.
|
I'm seeing some similarities between the release of Walls and WWWU and the release of We Don't Run and Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning. SNGMSM leaked earlier than WDR, and had a more familiar sound, while WDR had a new sound we hadn't heard from the band before. WWWU has a more familiar sound, while Walls obviously has that new, Imagine Dragons-influenced sound we weren't all expecting

I love Walls, way better than When We Were Us, great song
|
So is the new version of THINFS Digital only? No physical CD release?
|
Fine if you don't like Walls, but it's not pop!
I wish they haven't buried so much the "We call home" part and the oooooohhhh's that Shanks and Phil were doing. It sounded great. The song would improve greatly with a different cadence, it's too slow for Jon's voice and it won't translate well live, and also with higher backing vocals for an extra punch. I like that they didn't go for the tired and lazy anthemic choruses we all love to hate but Jon sounds too robotic and slow on the chorus |

It's a shame cos I've have bought another copy. I'm not buying singles since I pay for Spotify premium. I don't even think they expect people to buy them, since there has been little promotion and they released the video on fvcking Tidal |
Have the full lyrics to Walls been posted yet?
My momma told me When I was younger "You better speak up" "Don't be a number" My daddy told me When there was thunder "Go be the lightning" "Don't run for cover" Who's gonna help the helpless? Sometimes we're all alone These days we're all just looking for a place that we call home Now we can't climb over and you can't go round Build them up, we'll tear them down Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall Build more bridges and tear down walls These walls Are the mountains that we climb These walls Are the great divide Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall Build more bridges, tear down walls This space between us Is getting wider We need the spark to Light the fire Show me the promise Give me some feeling There's too much hurting We need some healing Who's gonna help the helpless? Sometimes we're all alone These days we're one step closer to that place that we call home Now we can't climb over and you can't go round Build them up, we'll tear them down Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall Build more bridges and tear down walls These walls Are the mountains that we climb These walls Are the great divide Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall Build more bridges, tear down walls (Solo) I remember when the world was smaller And we both felt ten feet taller Now we can't climb over and you can't go round Build them up, we'll tear them down Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall Build more bridges and tear down walls These walls Are the mountains that we climb These walls Are the great divide Brick by brick, gonna watch them fall Build more bridges, tear down walls |
I've posted the Colbert show performance of WWWU on the YouTube thread but posting here as well so nobody misses it:

Downloaded new songs.
Prefer Walls as I think JBJ sounds a bit 90s JBJ on it. On WWWU I dont like the bridge before the (utterly shit Jon Shanks) solo - it kills the momentum of the song Walls 7/10 WWWU 6/10 I have 2 major issues.... First - why oh why when you download these 2 new tracks do they go to the start of THINFS? They should be on the end. Now the album doesnt open with the title track. Annoying. Second - this is more important - JBJ Has hired a Rock Guitarist in Phil X yet the solos on new songs and THINFS are utter turd. Whats the point of having a great player if youre not gonna use him. The solos are getting worse and worse when they should be getting longer and better. |

I actually really like Walls. For what it is as one of a couple of extra tracks, it's pretty listenable. WWWU is still pretty boring Jovi by the numbers, of the tracks to focus on promoting, as per usual they chose the wrong one.

but Bon Jovi have been a pop band that occasionally do a rock track for a while now. Nothing wrong with that, but that's not what I want from Bon Jovi. I think songs like WWWU, THINFS are songs that I can believe the band I grew up listening to became. But stuff like Walls, BWC, BAT, Knockout....not what I wanted them to become. I'd rather the band sounded like the band rather than constantly trying to sound like other people... Just my opinion folks... |

At least on Spotify, they shortened the last chord ringing and fading out on the title track. It's 10 seconds shorter. I guess they needed time to make it all fit on one CD, but I don't really understand why - it 56 minutes, CDs can take much more, and the shortened end sounds really awkward.

Spotify and iTunes versions have identical endings here.... 3:34
|
will there be a CD Re-Release ?

Still dont like the way the songs stops for the bridge. |

The songs have the same estructure over and over again for nearly 10 years.
Its boring. Jon needs desperately to work with others songwriters. |
God, I can't stand Shanks and Randy Jackson's twin. They have no place on that stage.
