Seriously, that was meh. I mean, it's OK, not amazing. He goes with his 120% on the chorus and somewhat hits the notes and goes back to his normal levels of efforts and struggles through the ridiculously easy verses. I can compare it to that New Year's Thank You For Loving Me. Is it a better performance than most songs on the setlist? Yes. Is the final result still satisfactory? Not for me. I would not play this live performance, the way I do with many pre-2013 performances. And any 2013 performance that was considered crappy by then-standards, is still miles better. But hey, enjoy it if this satisfies you. I'll keep enjoying being the hater. |
Have they lowered the key on BOR even further?
Yeah he moves again, but I don't hear the great improvements everyone hear is rambling about. It was ok at parts. Though I think that some users here are a bit over the edge, going from trashing the band one night to celebrating Jon like nothing else hear for a few good notes. JT has always been insane, but it's reaching new heights... |

Kind of agree with this. There will be some good, some bad, and some in between. I don’t think any of it necessarily means he’s back or he’s lost it for good. I’m going to try to enjoy the ride. I will say this: don’t tell the people he walked through during Bed Of Roses that his vocals were “off.” They looked like they were having the freaking time of their lives. Bor, prayer, etc are the same step, key whatever as in 1995 (1 half step lower from original, means half a note)
I haven't checked ITA though. |
Jon tried the same thing he did in Sao Paulo, down to the timing of the "bed of nails" part; except he sounded a lot thinner this time.

I do agree on the general status of these topics. Jon hits a semi-high note and some folks lose their shit and forget he struggled mightily on another 15 songs that same night. |
I measured the long and high "Bed of nails" part.
If i remember correctly it was D#4 in Sao Paulo (will measure again to see if i remember correctly) In Las vegas 2018 it was G#4 (few notes higher than D#4) Live Bor every short "Bed of nails" is G#4 and studio it's A4 (half note higher than G#4.) It's a very bad sign now if he's sounding thinner on the same note IF he's as loud as before on the same note. |

That being said, I like that he's moving and trying to perform the songs more again. But besides that, not really much has changed. Btw, is the full setlist from last night known? |
Setlist:
01 This House Is Not For Sale 02 Knockout 03 You Give Love A Bad Name 04 Whole Lot Of Leavin' 05 Lost Highway 06 When We Were Us 07 Born To Be My Baby 08 Who Says You Can't Go Home 09 It's My Life 10 We Weren Born To Follow 11 I'll Sleep When I'm Dead 12 We Got It Going On 13 Keep The Faith 14 Amen 15 Bed Of Roses 16 Lay Your Hands On Me 17 God Bless This Mess 18 Have A Nice Day 19 Bad Medicine Encore 20 Wanted Dead Or Alive 21 Livin' On A Prayer |
If they play DC, HG, etc (Other rare songs) it will probably show up later into the tour.

No Richie is bad and it shows, the band does not sound the same. Nothing new here. Yes RS exited in a very poor fashion, especially for us fans and his bandmates - but besides this he IS crucial to the band's sound, writing and performances. Everett is a useless addition, even distracting watching him bouncing like a toy in all directions. Poisitive: Jon seems to get better, compared to the horrendous 2017 shows. I have a glimpse of hope for the HOF footage. |
Do you want to risk having Bon Jovi 2013 - 2017 if richie comes back and leaves?
I don't really trust Richie that way. |

Actually yes.
Everett is kinda like Alec in terms of backing vocals isn't he? He uses falsetto like Alec did. People's problem about everett to me are like "Why isn't the stage half a meter longer." |

Imagine if Bobby did the long second solo in Always.

https://youtu.be/MzqB_kc9wpY Jon's definitely regaining his confidence both as a performer and as a singer. He even went for the "Na na na na's" at the end of the song! :D That said, there's still a long, long way to go before I can honestly enjoy LISTENING to him (watching is already enjoyable) again... |
Anyone know the audibles? I seen 5 on the setlist but blanked out. Presuming the added one was I Love This Town.

Same here Matt. Maybe because I’ve met him but he brings energy and is definitely talented. Plus he has been around since the Big Dog DA days in regard to Jon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Everett makes things are better now.

why not play more of the new album? They are just a low for Jon's voice than Circle and Lost Highway songs. Give us more new tracks!
|
Just watched Lay Your Hands On Me. Solid performance IMO.

That goes as early as Crush. Jon did interviews in 2001 saying it's a relief the tours morph into ones not promoting the new album as hard so they can vary the setlist more. I remember Have A Nice Day having more of the newer songs cut as it went on too.

It's good to hear Knockout again. Anyways Jon should watch out for those Jungle noises.
|
Watching some videos from this show, it seems that Jon is feeling more comfortable on stage, however IMO his vocals are still within the terrible-bad range which has become the norm since 2013. Even though he was more confident and relaxed here, he still produced bad vocals for a singer at his age.

due to Jons vocals "VEGAS" is clearly a Level up !!!

He definitely shouldn't do KTF the way he did it in Anaheim.
|
The screams he did in KTF Vegas 2018 aren't really damaging at all. (Pure Head voice function instead of chest.)

Yes he should be careful.
