The Official May 17, 2018, Bell Centre, Montreal, QC, Canada Thread

Aloha !

It's time for the first show that matters on this tour, one that's not taking place in front of the poor crowds of the U.S.A. :p

The last time Bon Jovi played in Montreal was 2013 with 3 shows in Centre Bell. 2 back to back shows in february with 6 setlist changes and then 1 in november with 9 changes compared to february.

The show in november ran close to 3 hours with a very long set consisting of just a few rarities. Diamond Ring was played in the main set and Always showed up in the encore. Although setlistfm lists Never Say Goodbye it was just a small snippet with Jon doing a verse and a chorus, not much to write home about. Still, Montreal's been getting rather European setlists and hasn't had a standard show since 2007 so let's see if they can keep it up.

I just dont see a major set list shake up happening.
This batch of songs seem to be all they have for this tour.

BJFan99 04-03-2018 04:33 PM

As sad as it is, I predict the same set as yesterday with Blood On Blood as the encore opener. No other (semi-)rarities...

Faceman 04-03-2018 08:48 PM

I bet Because We Can replaces When We Were Us.

Captmorgs 04-04-2018 01:53 AM

For the record Seb, the crowds so far have been mostly loud and terrific, even with the standard set lists. But I know what you mean about Montreal being different. And that you were just fishing for reaction from U.S. fans anyway. [emoji3]

The record is called What About Now, not Because We Can.

YOVANAfromPeru 04-04-2018 07:30 AM

Talking about Because We Can... last night concert AUDIBLES: Memory, Superman, Blood On Blood and Because We Can

I don't want a few modifications here and there. I want an ENTIRELY different selection of songs altogether. The current setlist they're playing is a CRIME not only against the fans, but also against their own AWESOME back catalogue. 99% of all the bands out there would go to the moon and back just to have a back catalogue half as good as Bon Jovi's.......

prayer_84 04-04-2018 03:01 PM

Here's a comment on Bon Jovi's FB page below the Boston concert post:

Boston is where I am from (actually Stoughton, MA) and I live in FL. Your song "Who Says You Can't Go Home" always brings me to tears, because I always want to go home!!! When I do go home, I always take it all in and think of that song, while I am there!

As long as there are such comments, Who Says ain't goin' nowhere in terms of setlist changes.

Wow, first time in Bon Jovi history that they reschedule a concert due to that kind of reason. Let the rumours begin

Maybe it's a really nasty type of flu. Sometimes, the simples explanations are the ones closest to the truth.

Weren't the MSG dates last year re-scheduled for the same reason? :D

Naah, bronchitis is a reason on its own :D

Poor sales?

No, Montreal was the one place where a 2nd night was added pretty soon because the first one had sold out quite fast.

Rdkopper 04-05-2018 03:16 AM

Flu Epidemic? I call total bullshit on that one!!!

Nah, that's Richie's methods

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm

They travel all over the country. The flu is still out there making lives miserable.

WhamATC 04-05-2018 11:45 AM

There was a flu/cold epidemic in Sweden too not so long ago, around December and January.

It's weird how it can be in so many countries.

It's still going on actually. Came another flu-wave around March again. I got it twice myself, second time not as bad but in December/January I was out cold for over three weeks

steel_horse75 04-05-2018 12:33 PM

Well im glad they cancelled rather than struggle on.
Makes sense.

BRIEFLY going off-topic...

... to answer a question that was asked on the NEW MUSIC thread:

This is exactly how it happens. Most of the time, it begins with an innocent (or sometimes not-so-innocent) comment similar to this:

I would LOVE to respond, in kind, to this cute comment. But if I did, other people would invariably respond to my cute comment with their side of the debate regarding "Richie's methods" (aka Cancellations: The Real Reason or Just an Excuse to Cover Poor Sales). Before you know it, we'd have yet another thread that would slowly get turned into a "Still Going in Circles About Richie Five Years Later" thread.

So since I wouldn't want to contribute, in any way, to creating further problems for our moderators, or make it more difficult for people to find information they may be looking for in "mucked up" threads, I'll resist the urge to respond.

@Walleris, this isn't directed towards you at all. Your post is just a "real time" example of what I tried to explain in response to Becky's question and the follow-up comments from other mods (which actually turned into an OT discussion in and of itself).

I don't think you were in class the day we were given a crash course in "Forum Etiquette 101: The Importance of Having Different Threads and Why We Should Remain On-Topic." So, you may be unaware that the ancient history of someone who is no longer in the band should not be discussed on any unrelated threads. You also may have missed this tip for staying on topic:

Now back to the subject of THIS thread

Getting back to the topic (but still crossing threads, apparently, because there are two threads about the Montreal shows now; and this applies to comments about the cancellation on both threads!)... :)

First of all, I hope those who are sick - Jon, the band, the crew, whoever - feel better soon. Some strains of that flu are nothing to be messed around with. Wishing any and all a quick recovery!

I'm glad that the band and crew had time available after the end of the tour so the shows could be rescheduled. Still, I feel bad for those who were planning to attend the Montreal shows. It's especially tough for those from out of town who lost the money spent for arrangements they couldn't change and who may not be able to reschedule a trip for the make up shows. Been there, done that, burned that damn t-shirt!

@Melly Mel and Superkid, I hope things work out for you guys in Newark! Fingers crossed!!

BJFan99 04-06-2018 09:01 PM

By the way, I might be the only one thinking like this, but does anyone feel like the set lists could be even better now that the two nights in Montreal are the closing shows of the leg?

Won't make any difference at all IMO. Happy to be wrong though!

YOVANAfromPeru 04-06-2018 09:32 PM

I hope so, because Where are the “These Days and Keep The Faith album tracks” and Blaze Of Glory JBJ said they rehearsed??? But I also remember he said something like We'll see once we get out on the street!; so I guess “We’ll see”
