Montreal Shows are rescheduled to May 17 & 18
Jon has the flu. Source: Montreal Gazette, April 4
Not an April Fools Joke. |
Quite an unpleasant situation. Seems like a deja vu from Jon's bronchitis infection last year which cut the Pittsburg show short and postponed the MSG dates. As a result, a lot of people from all over the world, who had paid a fortune to fly over to NY just for these shows, had to go home empty-handed because they couldn't afford to prolong their stay. I really hope there are no such cases this time around but you never know. Anyway, wishing Jon and the whole team a speedy recovery.

Wow - this is a band that had the reputation of never cancelling a show. It appears to be a yearly thing now as Thierry said.
|
I was saying the same to my coworker who goes to shows with me. Jon has never canceled a show due to his personal illness before last year. The band tweet said band and crew is affected.
|
With his former voice he probably was able to get away with a flu and still perform on a less powerful level.
But with his voice being shot to pieces nowadays there's nothing left to hold on to I guess. |
Good.
I feel bad for those who traveled there, but that's absolutely the right thing to do. I'll say the same thing I said a year ago - if he had this mindset for most of his career, maybe Jon would have more voice left. |
Sad for the fans, and I'm starting to be nervous for the RNRHOF.
Wishing band and crew a speedy and good recovery! |

If it’s proper flu you can’t even get out of bed so the state of his voice is probably not even in his thinking.
I guess this is just a sign of everybody getting older - you are more likely to pick up bugs and things. |
Also, the crew that has the flu do not need to attempt to assemble the stage and lighting. It could be dangerous for all.
|
Unless it's crew that the band specifically need, like guitar techs that know the guys equipment and set ups, working crew are pretty easy to replace. There is nothing special about the stage on this tour, it's very basic, so any road crew familar with building stages could be drafted in. There are always more crew available at the drop of a hat. If the band members were fit and healthy the shows would have gone ahead regardless...

I'm not a doctor and I'm not 56 years old but I guess it's not the same having the flu in your 20's or 30's or even your 40's than when you are near your 60's
And there no reason to risk and destroy more his voice with the HOF performance just around the corner. If they have to postpone the shows I'm sure they will have strong reasons, for me it is well done. |

Well I am 56 years old (!) and the only thing I notice that’s different than when I was “younger” is that it’s harder to lose weight! I just had the flu (56 year old husband - still runs marathons - just did also and he never gets sick) and with a couple days of rest we are just fine. But then we don’t have to sing which has to be impossible to do when ill. I’d rather they cancel than Jon hurt his voice. Postponing was a good call. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I feel bad for people who travel to see them. I’m sure they would have gone on if they could. No one wins with a situation like this.
I don’t think age has that much to do with it, but what strain of flu they have. I got one back in August that lasted 11 days and I was so dehydrated I had to get IV fluids twice. I avoided the hospital, but younger, healthier people than me were hospitalized for a week with the same symptoms. I’m 42, btw. |

I wouldn’t want the pressure of. deciding to postpone or not! It affects sooooo many people. This is why I don’t go to concerts I’d have to fly to in the US or other countries. Just don’t know what could/can happen. I’ve only read that the band and crew have the flu. Maybe Jon doesn’t?? But I cannot imagine how he’d escape it with all of the kissing he’s done in the audience lately.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The Montreal Gazette said Jon, but didn’t mention the band or crew. I think they jumped the gun with their article.
|
Even if the crew can be replaced it's good that they rescheduled the concert.
If you have a cold, flu or whatever similar your vocal cords could swell up (You'll sound hoarse due to that) and singing during that time could possibly cause actual problems with the voice. |
I am glad they postponed, however...
I have tickets for Newark, so I’m nervous about that show. I’m traveling 10 hours, plus I would have had to cancel my hotel by 3pm today to avoid first nights deposit, so I’m not getting that back. I know many will be flying in. You didn’t use to have to worry about Jovi canceling. I probably need to stop traveling so far to see them. |

I think Jon is someone that plays the concert anyways if the sickness lasts too long.

Sounds like they were careless about making sure everybody had their flu shots. When I hadn't gotten around to getting my shot as of late February, I was going to skip it this year. Then one of my classmates mentioned that she'd just gotten over it, I "got 'er done" within two days -- And of course, just this past weekend, a mild 48-hour bug came to visit!
P.S. If you're over 50, also get a shingles (zoster) vaccination, especially if you remember having had chicken pox (varicella). |
I had the flu shot. I also had the flu twice (October and December) and what must have been the flu on steroids in August. There are so many strains, the shot is a crapshoot. They vaccinate for what they predict will be the most active strains. One year I got the shot and later tested for Type A and B at the same time. I told the doctor I was an over-achiever. Haha.
In other words, the shot is not really all that effective. |
