I have to agree. We all have off days but make a damn effort. If his voice is the issue, why not give David a song? Tumblin’ Dice always sounded fantastic.

Just got home from Raleigh! Show was definitely not up to Charlotte or Atlanta’s standards. After seeing all 3, Charlotte was a damn great show, Atlanta was a great show, tonight was a good show. The band really rushed through the show tonight it felt like and the encore was disappointingly short. Was glad to hear Because We Can (don’t banish me pls!) knockout and Blood on blood. With the way the Setlists have been this tour I was definitely not expecting 3 different songs at each of the 3 shows I saw this week. Hate to beat a dead horse, but it was really hard to notice about Jon’s vocal issues at these shows... the lady next to me at the end asked “he isn’t going to play blaze of glory?” I said “no, I don’t think he can really do it anymore with his voice” to which she responded “what’s wrong with his voice?”... Can’t wait for my last show next week in Philly! Anyway, setlist tonight was

THINFS
Knockout
Bad Name
WLOL
LH
BTBMB
Who says
IML
WWBTF
BWC
WGIGO
KTF
AMEN
BOR
LYHOM
SLEEP
BOB
BAD MED

WANTED
PRAYER

I think that about 5 -7 songs of an album should be in a setlist. Of course depending on the length of the show. They're shorter now, so at least five. They promote an album, they give away the album with every ticket. Still they have plenty of time to play the hits or good concert numbers.

I admit, I quite like the album. Probably because Jon doesn't sound that dreadful on those songs than on older ones. I also liked the way he was (probably is) proud of the album. On the other hand, I didn't like WAN at all and still it bothered me that some songs disappeared from the setlist. And actually it made me really happy that they played I'm With You in Prague, more than if Working Man or I Love This Town was played.

The standard nowadays with most bands is that they just play the biggest hits. If Bon Jovi played their biggest hits, it'd be fine. Instead they play crap like Lost Highway, Because We Can etc. I don't say those songs should be burried (some of them should though) but at least should be rotated. It's not necessary to play Sleep and WGIGO every show.

I think the album sucks, and is just as bad as what about now. But that's not the point - the only song that works live is the title track. I don't like We Got It Going On, but I've been to 18 shows in seven countries - and the song just works live. None of these new songs work, nor do they sound good. The audience just doens't care, and that's why they're showing up less and less in the setlist.

The album isn’t that bad.. I actually like it much more with the bonus tracks added in. But I saw Rollercoaster live twice last year and the US crowds actually seemed to really enjoy it, absolutely no reason for it to be left out now.

As far as the setlist goes, they just need another hit in the first 5. Bad name is great and people can handle THINFS because the show is just starting, but the second song whether it be knockout or we don’t run everyone sits. After Bad name the crowd sits for WLOL and LH. Should really bring back in Saturday night and play it early. Just something with some energy. But I still loved these shows. Tonight was #14 for me since 2003 and Charlotte is honestly in my top 5 or 6 favorite Bon Jovi shows.

I disagree. Knockout and GBTM both went over well last month. I also disagree about the album. I think it's much better than WAN.

WAN is good when you take out the crap and theres a lot of it.
THINFS bar 3 songs is utter crap.
Not played it for over a year and have no intention to anytime soon.
But thats me.

Yeah, personal taste is not key there. I agree about WGIGO that it works live. Maybe if Jon tried shaking his ass on moving platforms during a different song that one would work as well :) back to my thought - I just think that when you promote an album, you should play the songs from it. If the set is about 2h 15mins long, six new songs is not that much. Considering that you open with two, it leaves four spots during the rest of the setlist. One more or two that get played constantly (Roller Coaster - it worked, has hit potential, got a bit of airplay last year, current single WWWU or Walls this time) and two that you rotate and just choose random two songs from the new album. If you find out that some songs don't work live, don't use them next tour. Apart from the new albums, play only what works live and what people need to hear.

I can speak only for Europe, but LH or WLOL don't work live. I went once with my parents to a BJ show and that's why we took seats instead of GA. With the first note of intro, the stadium stood up, once LH started people looked around with faces like "WTF is this?" and sat down. WLOL is even more boring. There's no need to play those songs every show. I agree about WGIGO but even that song can be rotated with another "fun" "party" song like Sleep.

Amen, why Amen?? Because Jon thinks he wrote another Hallelujah? I'm afraid that Amen wasn't played that much in 2013 that is now. It's a matter of personal taste again, I just think the song sucks and really nobody cares for it, it wasn't a hit, only people clap when Jon goes for the long note. Why isn't there Scars on This Guitar? Much better song in my book and I think the opinion of here is better than of Amen.

steel_horse75 04-25-2018 12:47 PM

@johny - Agree. Since LH too many songs have become part of the set. THINFS - Odd they have dropped so many as JBJ thinks this is a masterpiece of art. Its not of course.

Bounce7800 04-25-2018 01:01 PM

The songs need a chance to be able to work live. Blame is equally between JBJ selling them properly on stage and the audience giving them a chance. They got the CD for free with their ticket they should at least have listened to it to know what's coming on the THINFS tour.

I've said it previously, but on this tour there should be 5+ THINFS songs. If they are killing the crowd, spread them out between hits to get them back in the groove. The problem isn't with the THINFS songs, it's all the dirge in the rest of the setlist. You can still have a good setlist with 6 new songs in if the other 15 or so are bangers. WGIGO got where it was with the staging, they need to make some decent staging for the new songs. Why waste Amen/BOR in the crowd when it could be a new song to give that one it's USP?

WhamATC 04-25-2018 01:06 PM

He can pretty much still do Blaze Of Glory (obviously 1 half step from original)
but the chorus must most likely be lowered to F4 or so instead of the current F#4. And some of the highest notes can easily be avoided by lowering them (Some A4's or so in the verse as i remember).

So glad I can say we agree on something Dan ha ha! I also think Rollercoaster went down well with US crowds. It was one they actually jumped around too on the chorus even when they didn't know it. I wish they'd just keep at least 4 of the THINFS songs in the set and rotate them somewhat with the opener staying.

I saw Metallica on the St Anger tour - how many songs did they play from St Anger? 1 - and that was enough!

Ha ha..point well taken. Steve you and I will always disagree on THINFS but I still love you!! :).

james_d 04-25-2018 02:11 PM

I'd replace songs such as WLOL with THINFS songs. Having Rollercoaster in that spot could work really well. I'd also have scars replace Amen in some spots. Glad to hear about people still enjoying the shows when attended live.

THINFS
LWTG
GBTM
DITT
BAT

Should all be the setlist - all good songs from a live point of view.

This house is not for sale
Living with the ghost
Roller coaster
New Years Day

these should be in the set and then maybe rotate 1 other in each night

on another note why do other tracks from previous albums never or rarely get a look

Pictures of you
Thorn in my side
Any other day
Story of my life
The distance
Mystery train

A few songs here that have never been played or rarely since that album tour has passed.. mix these in instead of the same old same old!

By the way, has anybody noticed how Jon has mostly ditched playing the guitar on this leg? The only songs he plays on are WLOL, LH, WSYCGH, BOB and Wanted. He's even pacing around the stage without a guitar during BWC and Runaway nowadays.

But why - could anyone of you offer some kind of a possible explanation?

It's probably because he's trying to concentrate more on his vocals.

WhamATC 04-25-2018 10:01 PM

I agree with what DaveGodOfKEys said.
Those 2 are songs that you can move around on though.
Can't imagine moving around on THINFS for some reason.

Didn't he already ditch it a lot more on last year's your?

I tried to post the set list from my car waiting for the parking lot to clear but my Phone Internet wouldn't let me on here - apparently it saw the site as "malicious". I'm running on fumes. After the drive I got home at 1.30 - was on adrenaline so didn't sleep til 3.30 - and it's catching up to me.

Every file on my PC tells me it's too large to upload - Damn (also a song I'd love to hear live)!

We already know that Runaway was omitted from the Encore and 2 audibles. He failed to intro the band which I really wanted him to do - I like that personal touch to the show. Really not a lot of "talking", said at the start that's not what he came here to do.

He was imo very high energy for the night and I had a hell of a good time. My fitbit shows 72 min of cardio during the show! Vocals live are nothing as severe as some of the videos we've seen. I replayed the one's I have and Bed of Roses was a bit weak but he was in the crowd and on a rail... literally inches from me so he could have been singing the phone book and I would have been so busy "fan girling" it wouldn't have mattered. Lets just say I could read the tag on his jeans.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BiA_6ShB...by=realgenie07 Maybe this will work?? B stage was 15 feet from my seat and this was going back to the main stage.

Set list was safe and Amen was not bad at all - you could see the emotion or maybe it was struggle on his face but he pulled it off. Really wish I could load especially those pics, they speak for themselves. Not a fan of the stage this year, it's very simple but Tico, whom I adore is almost out of sight, they need to raise the drum riser up. We didn't get any rarities tonight at all. PhilX was his now typical high energy and just has a good time. BJ Started at 8:36 and was over 10:40 or so. Forgot the opening acts name, was a duo both named Chris but they were really good.

If I figure out how to share the pics/videos from my phone I'll post them but it was a night well spent. I backed out last time they were in Raleigh because Richie wouldn't be there. There are always those harmony moments that I will forever miss him - but his absence won't stop me again. With the set lists, I couldn't see like back in the day (before financial reality) when it was possible to go city to city and follow a band for several shows on a tour but it's definitely a good time for a night or two!
