Man, that Dry County just got better and better. To be totally honest, the first verse was horrendous. Really, really bad. But by the second verse Jon sounded rock solid. Phil absolutely killed it in the solo (you could tell he looked pretty nervous when he was doing it tho lol). Then when they hit the last chorus, Jon entered 150% mode and did a fantastic job. Patchy is definitely the right word, but by 2018 standards that performance was great in my opinion. Absolutely no reason why they can't make it a semi-regular, Jon certainly looked very passionate and proud about it.

Has anyone got Captain Crash?

Listen to the last chorus. He sung that better than he sings just about anything. |
Now compare this to if he had sung Dry County early 2017.

Bed Of Roses - a great performance by Jon, btw:
https://youtu.be/hiUIC5oCkjY Who could have thought he'd ever be able to do BOR justice again even last spring, let alone in late 2013-late 2016? The last '13 performance even had the audience singing the last chorus, as Jon's voice got completely shot near the end of the song: https://youtu.be/zoerpeBOPP0 |
Dry County was really really bad. And if you think it wasn't, you should feel bad too.
Admittedly, I should know better at this point than believe the enthusiasm in JT comment section, but I still expected something more from the last chorus, where Jon supposedly sounded good. He didn't. This can't be healthy for whatever is remaining of his voice. The more he pushes like this, the worse it will keep getting. The main difference between Dry County and Always - DC is pretty high the whole time. During Always Jon can shout the high notes in the chorus and be bad but OK-ish and then 'rest' during the verses, whereas DC requires 120% non-stop. Decent job by Phil though. Not as great as Richie's solo, but enjoyable. |

I guess it comes down to what do we want as fans. Do we want an attempt at a rarity that is difficult to sing and also shows rust from not being performed often or do we want a whole bunch of less difficult vocal songs (meaning we pretty much kill all rarities from the 90s and before) that no one cares about and that we've probably heard a lot since the Lost Highway tour. I vote for the former personally but y'all know I've said that before.

I’ve heard Jon sound worse on DC.
Also, Phil has an annoying habit of rushing certain solo’s, and in particular, bends. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The band sounded good on Dry County. About the vocals - well, "patchy", as symbeline described it, probably suits it quite well.
Kudos to Jon for trying though. |

I don't why...but the guy just can't let the note flows for a few seconds more.. I think he made justice in the solo, but this "rushing" is really annoying. |

Why is there two Beautifuls? Beautiful World and what other song am I forgetting? Beautiful Day? |

By the way "Stranger" only could be one song so I think its and old list and he just adds new songs each tour. |

(Unless Richie is coming back - much sooner than even I think he will; and even then it would be a long shot!) :) |

ALSO:
Everyone LOVES this setlist. Why? Because we are now down to ONE THINFS song on the set. I don't even think the Circle Tour ever got that low. Knowing my luck, Jon will treat me with half the album at MSG. But judging by the trend that's happening now, probably not. :D :D |
