In the Wells Fargo center parking lot, it was a great show. Not as good a setlist as last night. But a great show. Great to hear rollercoaster and I’ll be there for you

Imagine if those five are sprinkled throughout the set.

Would make it a totally different show and the best of the tour.

Those songs are five of the best songs in the history of this band. One or two of those should be in every set.

Just got home. Same review as always... Talking to Obie was cool... He's getting old... not like Jon old but like Old Man Old... He even said that he's going to need to show someone all the archives before he dies. Partially kidding I think... One other thing... I asked about the Sole Truth and that's when he said he had ALL the Red Bank shows and was particular to '91

IMO, Jon had no intention of playing any of those audibles tonight. I don’t think his voice was quite where it was last night. There were signs right in front of Jon for these days and a big banner for Always. Also saw a Superman tonight sign

james_d 05-04-2018 09:41 AM

Rollercoaster should replace WLOL. It's a better song, whilst freeing up the 6th spot for a song like ITA. Still, a decent setlist all told. They need to keep on mixing up the main songs though.

Good on him then, in my opinion. He gets criticized for singing songs he isn't capable of and then will get criticized if he doesn't. I'm glad he didn't do them if HE didn't feel up to it.

I can't believe Jon dropped HAND from the set. It goes over great with the crowd and it's not difficult to pull off vocally. Makes no sense at all.

The chorus is. Really. The verses aren't easy on the vocal chords as well...

jovifan93 05-04-2018 10:13 AM

Holy shit, that KTF performance actually is more than decent or good, it's really great for today's standards!

I'd say HAND is one of the toughest vocal recorded post-2000. The chorus is definetely a tough piece with few breathing opportunities.

kleman 05-04-2018 02:56 PM

I agree. HAND is a difficult chorus to sing! Both pitch and pace.

Having said that, I do hate that it's been dropped.

WAIT a second. When he hits an isolated Ab3472 note you call it the best performance ever but when he sounds really solid for a full song it's.. not bad

:p

He can sing Dry County with far better timing than with HAND. Even if Jon can shout his way through the latter song, there's no way his breath can catch up with the pace.

I don't know if youre serious or not- HAND is probably the hardest songs to pull off vocally as far as post 2000 singles go.

Edit- didn't see there was another page of replies. Not trying to overdo it

Can I post only because I laughed a lot?

Yeah, this IBTFY was a very good perfomance. But Phil don't do justice in these "more feeling" songs.

It wasn’t on the lost highway album that’s why!

WhamATC 05-04-2018 10:10 PM

Next THINFS concert, it opens with "Lost Highway".

It's weird, it sounds as if he has no idea what to do with the fills between the verses and the solo just always falls flat. And they should really give the backing vocals to David or Everette.

In all the shows I've been to post 2005, including last month, he sounded fine with it. Plus, I always sound good when I'm singing along in the car. :-)
