Yes. A Teardrop To The Sea only resonates with those who think it's about Richie and "feel Jon's pain" while it's really just a sea of bland lyrics. Musically it does nothing for me and the vocal delivery is awkward and makes me cringe. The song is a snoozefest.

Living With The Ghost has a great melody but again it's let down by the dumb lyrics. Most of it is pseudo nonsense apart from the odd decent line here and there. There's no great metaphors, most of it just doesn't make sense and is only there to rhyme.

So yeah, no great songs in 10 years. Sure there's bits and pieces here and there but the last great song Jon wrote was Whole Lot Of Leavin'. Anything after's been mediocre at best.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I love The Fighter's lyrics even more.

I'd call Who Would You Die For great, for one.

I agree. This and Teardrop (even though there's some real "stinkers" on BB as well) are the most interesting ones of the last decade.

I can see your point, but only to a degree. While there aren't many, I think there are a few songs post-2007 that could legitimately be added to the canon of 'great songs' alongside Prayer, IBTFY, Keep the Faith, Always, These Days, It's My Life, etc.: Superman Tonight, Love's The Only Rule, I'm With You (granted the production does the song no favours), This House is Not for Sale, and I Will Drive you Home are all brilliant songs.

I'm With You is a perfectly serviceable pop/rock track. The production and performance hold it back, but that chorus is as catchy as anything they've ever written, and the solo is absolutely smoking, too.

The last song with a well-written message was Burning Bridges and that says all about Jon's songwriting in the last decade :D

That solo actually is one of my favourite Richie solos of the last 20 years. There's something about it that just strikes me. I agree that the production is very much over the top on this one, more than on many other tracks on WAN. That's why I'm happy we have two SBD versions of them doing it and I'd rather stick to them :)

Jon's always been the best when he wrote about things personally affecting him. To me, he's quite good at that but fails in the role of an "observing songwriter". Though that "Guten Abend" pronounciation is horrendous in the song, but it just raises the trash factor which was the sole purpose of the track anyway :D

To me, the last two good songs of my Bon Jovi (in my book) are A Teardrop To The Sea and We Don't Run. -_-
I don't care if JBJ doesn't play A Teardrop... I just play my guitar and sing it Easy...

LeaJovi 10-30-2019 04:32 PM

The last BJ song I kinda enjoy is When We Were Us.

If I had to search for another one it would have to be Love's the only rule. That's about it.
