I keep expecting the pre-chorus to kick into Room At The End of the World. Since that was a good song, it's not too bad.

The song is... I dunno, the lyrical subject is pretty heavy for a band like BJ. To do this neither as a "yeah, USA, shoot em all, military is fun!" nor as a critical "man, **** that shit"... is very BJ, I guess - don't piss off anybody! But not sure if it works. Musically - man, to have a KTF-era take on that track... the basic composition is damn solid, the production (lack of dynamics) and performance hold it back. Although I will say that JBJ's weathered vocals fit the outro better than an 80s howl ever could have. Although a higher harmony vocal in the chorus (Mr Sambora, you there?) certainly would have been nice. |
I don't know. I've listened to it 3 times now, and it definitely grows on you. On first listen I thought WTF, but I'm beginning to like it for what it is. If the rest of the new album is in as low a key, it's not for me, but for a song about PTSD, it works quite well, I guess.

Is Unbroken a 2020 single?

Better than I expected. The lyrics are messy. It's a grower but still cant see myself listening to it all that much in a month or so.
Actually don't mind the production on it. Maybe because there's not that many layers stacked on top of each other. Surprised the duration is at 5:20 given Phil's tweet about short songs. I know 5 minutes isn't that long, but I was expecting 3 min radio standard. EDIT: Noticed the iTunes version is 6:07 |

Heavy handed lyrics. Terrible singing. Basic melody.

And now I'm wondering if the next release will be something he did for this documentary: https://mobile.twitter.com/LostNAmer...928970752?s=19 |

And aye aye Captain, we seem to agree pretty often regarding the musical side of the band, haha. |
