This is an appalling version of Saturday night by the way.

I've never heard it this slow.

YOVANAfromPeru 11-27-2018 01:56 PM

bad Saturday Night indeed

TheOriginalJez 11-27-2018 01:56 PM

I was busy cleaning the oven, it seemed more appealing - what did I miss apart from ITA and Saturday Night?

That was it.

Wanted now

TheOriginalJez 11-27-2018 02:01 PM

So BOB and IBTFY dropped then. For a shitty Saturday Night and no doubt an appalling solo in ITA. Excellent. Jon sounded semi-decent on that first verse.

What makes you think it won't? The rarities will be the audibles (These Days, Always, maybe Dry County) so Europeans won't complain they didn't get special shows. Consider yourself lucky if you get more than one a night. They'll probably play more THINFS songs since they'll probably believe the audience will be more receptive.

Does somebody honestly think that after 2 years with 0 extra effort, not even in the high-profile gigs, they are suddenly going to do a 180º and play a decent setlist with a little bit for everybody? Have you read the comments here for this tour since 2016? Any night where they play hit songs that have become rarities (BOB, ITA, IBTFY) is considered a highlight!

Trying to be fair, and I've been saying this from the beginning, Jon looks painfully out of his element. He seems to be overthinking and overworrying and that could be a reason why they have an unchanging setlist, it's a security blanket. It makes no sense since in 2015 when they had a hired gun with them they played super random songs, but it truly seems that Jon is scared to let loose.

Bounce7800 11-27-2018 02:02 PM

Prayer now and I suspect that'll be it

I enjoyed that. Setlist was stale but I've no doubts that will change in Europe, especially Wembley.

Jon by and large sounded good given today's standards. I'm largely positive for next summer now [emoji106]

Bottom line, parts of it is ok to listen to behind my screen, some doesn't sound good. It isn't great from here, but....

People who go have fun, as I've read about 100 positive comments and 1 slightly negative, from twitter tonight. Might not be representative, who knows, but comments are still positive post shows from people when I read some.

I know people don't like to hear it on here but the whole point is having fun at a concert.
They are not playing for a handful of us over analyzing from our computer chairs.
We can complain all we want, when in reality we should just move on and enjoy the live shows when they come around, or skip them.

Either way, the negativity doesn't really lead to anything. I feel like some people should simply move on and call it a day.
ok rant over.

p.s Not being able to go anywhere without drawing a crowd must suck.

faith1985 11-27-2018 02:49 PM

Thanks to everyone who posted the streams. You can always count on this board to keep people on track with what is going on!

We won't be able to tell until the Australian leg. The last 2 or 3 tours had horribly stale setlists in the USA and Japan and Australia and Europe (even with Phil X) got way more varied setlists. If we get one like today for all the Australian shows then yeah, it won't change next summer either. But so far at least the standard combo WLOL/LH didn't make it to European setlists too often on the last 2 tours.

I can't bear the fact that he's gone back to being stuck in the same spot for the majority of the show, clutching the mic stand for dear life. I felt like on the 2nd US leg he really got past that and got back to being a front man again. I can forgive some of the poor vocals if the show is entertaining. But it just isn't at all. For me, this feels like a big backwards step from the US shows, so far....

Reminds me of the Endicott show last year where Jon didn't move a single time...

not only that but he has to balance the poor vocals with a better/smarter setlist,
i can't understand why he doesn't play any songs from the bounce record,
hook me up would be a great choice,a great rock song and easy to sing

The verses, yeah, the chorus, not so much, as it's quite high at times.

The choruses are fairly easy to mask with BV's - but that whole record disappeared pretty much immediately after they toured it, I can't see anything getting pulled out of the bag these days. I don't even remember any from the HAND tour, although I'd imagine Everyday got a couple of outings. I almost had a heartattack when they opened with Bounce in Dublin on the GH tour.

Bounce and Everyday got a lot of play on the HAND tour, Joey has always been very sporadic. Misunderstood got (I THINK) two plays on Lost Highway tour, maybe one on HAND? It was a mid size hit, very surprised it got dropped. Undivided every now and again, but yeah it all got dusty real fast once the tour ended.

_KaMi_ 11-27-2018 05:46 PM

They should do Last Man Standing. Good rock song and the vocals are pretty low during the whole song.

Exactly - that's what I've been thinking since the beginning of the tour. Jon could definitely still do it.

DryCounty 11-27-2018 05:49 PM

I can't believe for how many years that Whole Lot of Leavin'/Lost Highway combo has been in the set list. Except for being easy vocally, has it EVER got over well with an audience? It's beyond me what that combo does at the very start of a rock show.

The biggest problem are not the declining vocals but the death of Jon frontman extraordinaire. Nothing will ever sound good again because BJ was 50% Jon + Richie / 50% attitude. We didn't just lose half of the magic, we lost almost everything at once.

Notice how people don't even mention anymore that Jon is in autopilot because there's no "no autopilot mode" to compare with. Again trying to be fair, it's pretty clear he's uncomfortable singing and trying to work the audience, but (warning rehashed argument no.103762) nobody is forcing them to tour, there's NO excuse for the lack of engagement.

I agree, very well put. At the same time we lost Jon's voice we lost one of the best frontmans in rock history as well. Losing both Richie, Jon's voice and his frontmanship is really a to big of a loss to repair.

Good suggestion! Would fit the "Look, I'm still here and really singing" attitude, as well. And Phil could shine on guitar...

james_d 11-27-2018 07:39 PM

The general consensus (from what I've seen at least) is that the first half of the setlist is boring and the second half is decent but needs to be changed up a bit. Songs like Last Man Standing would be great to replace WLOL, LH and Follow.

I miss the flying fox and the catwalk and the pyro and the cool stage set ups and Flash stageclothes and Richie and alec and Jon running around and drum solos and keyboard solos and Jons great vocals and screams !!!! Everything and i mean everything i used to love about a Bon Jovi show is gone forever :(

Captain_jovi 11-27-2018 08:39 PM

Yeah but a lot of those things left looooooooong before Richie jumped ship.

Zakatar 11-27-2018 08:43 PM

Overall I think Tokyo's setlist was better than Osaka's, When We Were Us is much better live than WWBTF, and I'd take RYH over Knockout any day (though the solo at the end of Knockout was interesting to say the least). I'm digging the lack of We Got it Going on though, WDR is a much better choice for that slot. Hopefully we'll get a rarity or two in Australia.

Jon's voice was definitely better in Tokyo than Osaka. I agree 100% with whomever it was who said they thought back-to-backs were a bad idea for 2018 Jon.
