Well this is very hard to listen...his voice is shot
|
His voice is gone for today I guess.
I reckon Wanted and Prayer and that'll be it. |
I don't wanna jinx it or anything, but could this be the night where we have just one song from Lost Highway (albeit the opener )
|
I like most THINFS songs, including WDR, but they all sound shit live and just keep getting worse. The title track is semi-bearable and should be there but as much as it pains me to say this, that should be it
|
As strained as his voice is, the verses, and the "alive" part sound better than the previous shows/legs. At least he's singing "alaaiiiiiiieeev" instead of short-cutting to "alaiieeeeeeev" (sorry, hard to explain in writing ;-))
|
Maybe they should shorten the set. It's pretty clear that Jon can't do a 25 songs set on a good level anymore.
Do 18, but put the real classics + plus some new songs and 1 or 2 rarities and that's it. |
|
Wow, yeah he has nothing left for Prayer. Nothing.
|
It is crazy how standing still and trying to concentrate makes his vocals even worse.
I would be amazed if there isn't some sort of mental issue in addition to the physical deterioration of his voice. During the second verse of IBTFY he was really struggling standing still, then it was almost as if he realised, started walking about, and sounded better! |
Full setlist:
1.) Lost Highway 2.) Who Says 3.) Bad Name 4.) Raise Your Hands 5.) This House Is Not For Sale 6.) Living With The Ghost 7.) Runaway 8.) We Weren't Born To Follow 9.) It's My Life 10.) God Bless This Mess 11.) We Don't Run 12.) Keep The Faith 13.) Bed of Roses 14.) Lay Your Hands 15.) Captain Crash 16.) Bad Medicine -- 17) When We Were Us 18 ) Blood On Blood 19) I'll Be There For You 20) Wanted 21) Livin on a Prayer It's an upgrade from recent shows. Vocally, performance wise, set wise. IBTFY really killed his voice, so maybe replace that with something easier. |

EDIT: And Jon is relying on playback before the Prayer solo again... |

Well, at least there was a bit of a setlist shake up and a new song in there. That's one thing positive. It's still not great, and a dreadful opening combo but at least it's mixing it up a bit.
Just listening to Prayer, vocals were horrible, but doesn't matter in that song to be honest, everyone just wants the sing along. Don't know why they don't do a medley to chuck in some other songs. And bring back the Dave/Phil jukebox to give Jon another mid-show break. |

I wonder if Born To Be My Baby was played and we just missed out on it due to the streams cutting off...

Yup, missed BTBMB because of missing stream links at that time.
So we had 22 songs after all. I think that was an alright set. |

Overall I would say this show has made me a lot more positive about the band atm. Whilst the setlist is still vanilla there's a pretty genuine switch around of songs in there. I do agree that IBTFY needs removing/swapping out for something slightly easier as it seems to be killing Jon atm. Has anyone got a link to Captain Crash or BTBMB as I think they were cut out?

Definitely the best Australian show thus far, hopefully Brisbane and Sydney will only see improvement! Vocally he sounded slightly stronger than the last few shows (except on IBTFY), and the setlist was shaken up a lot more than usual for this tour (I hope they try opening with Sleep again, considering how well that worked in Montreal). Living With the Ghost was a nice surprise!
The best part of this setlist for me was the lack of both WLOL and WGIGO! They haven't played this few LH songs at a single show in a long time! |
I would definitely wanna add 1 - 2 songs for David and/or Phil to sing.
Especially one during the encore (For Jon vocal reasons)? https://www.facebook.com/trevor.lova...14993241951815 These places at the concert seemed horrible, seems like they barely saw the stage. I bet some didn't see the band itself. |

Btw, it's weird how much better Jon sounds on BOR than IBTFY, even though the former is far more difficult to sing. Has anybody got any idea what might be the reason? |
Mental problems (Well I am not saying Jon is crazy or something but you get it) that are enough to affect his singing.
Jon sure does suffer from self-confidence problems too sometimes judging by what I see. I am sure he's annoyed about his voice. It's still weird why he sounds better on BOR instead of IBTFY as you said no matter what it is. BOR I know it sounds like I am saying bullshit but still that's what I bet on 100%. I wonder what Jon's honest ("I sound and feel great in this 2018") answer would be in this question: If your currently in 1993 and you knew this would be how you sound like and act like on stage (movements, etc) 2013 - 2018. Would you be more careful about your singing, etc. |

I'd say it might be connected to the current placement of IBTFY on the set. Nowadays his voice is completely shot pretty much every time in the encore regardless of which song he sings, so maybe he should shorten the encore a bit and swap IBTFY back to the main set? Blood On Blood could also work as a show opener again, so he wouldn't need to strain his voice as much in the encore, having usually beaten his voice to bits during the main set already. Also, for f*ck's sake, Jon - let David sing ITA as a full version again every now and then, let Phil sing a song (You Shook Me All Night Long or Highway To Hell would definitely drive the Aussies crazy this time as well, like they did in 2013) or whatever; just allow yourself a brief breather, if not for anything else than saving the shows from being complete train wrecks vocally... |
I wonder how it would be like during concerts if Richie and Alec were still in Bon Jovi. I think Jon would be happier I guess even if Alec sometimes does mistakes.
Yes I would wanna hear David Bryan do a full electric version of ITA atleast once during a concert. |
After having watched some videos from the past shows and the streams from most of today's show I'm almost certain that Jon really is suffering from some sort of anxiety disorder or depression that manifested itself in mid/late-2013 and he's not been able to break through that up until now.
But - as David said in the documentary - Jon is the guy that constantly has to prove himself and he so desperately wants to battle through this as well, though he clearly isn't enjoying it anymore. |

Adelaide Show
Looking at the official set, I really wish Dry County was called on... It would be great to see more change ups. However, does anyone know why Jon didn't play guitar at all in the encore? No acoustic for When We Were Us, I'll Be There For You, Blood on Blood or Wanted...
I've never seen Wanted played without Jon on acoustic before |

While I agree on Jon getting a rest at some point during the set, please please no David on ITA. I just absolutely cannot stand the way he sings (just the same as with Richie, but his voice made it special and thus magic, but David just has an OK voice IMO, which is fine for backing vocals, but just not made for the prime spot). Same goes for Phil BTW, at least in BJ.
