Movie "About a Boy" based on a JBJ line

I just saw that new movie "About a Boy" wih Hugh Grant. Although I thought that the movie is as good as a B-, i was pleasantly suprised that the whole story was based on Jon's line from 1991 "No man is an Island".

Anyone else see this??

Yeah- I've seen it!

Good film!

Well, No man is an island is not a creation by Jon but by someone else. For example a German bookwriter called his book this way long before Jon used these words. But Jon has it from someone else who is more popular in the USA, forget who it was though.

anyway, can somebody explain what "NO MAN IS AN ILAND" means?

Hi:
No man is an island means we don't live alone. We're not the only one we need to think about.

WRONG!

I actually saw the episode of "Who wants to be a millionare?" that was on "About a Boy" and I also saw an episode of "The Wheel of Fortune" where the question was "Who wrote the line "No Man Is An Island"?

On both shows the answer was Jon Bon Jovi...

The line that the german guy wrote probably translates differently or means something else.

Jon is credited with this one.

LoL it amuses me that people think this most famous philosophical quote was infact mooted by Jon Bon Jovi

Quote:

John Donne (1572-1631), 'No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main...'

That's interesting! I didn't know that! Well, there's my new thing to learn for the day...okay, so it's a little late in the day to learn something new for the day, but hey, it's really cool information!

thanks!!!
