For Drum Bum
Hi ,
I love US football. I live in the UK so have to tape most games as they come on here at night. Its hard sometimes to follow the pre season in this country. I love the Jets think they are a great team. DOnt like the steelers much, they seems to always foul more than other teams. As you know the pre season is hard to guess as the teams dont seem to give all they have got, Im a 9ers fan. Weve been down for a long time ,keep thinking every year will show us the glory but still think its early days now. Dawn |
Dawn, thanks for replying! I'm very much into football. I don't really follow the 49ers much, but I will now for conversation's sake!
As far as the Steelers getting a lot of penalties, I think most are bad judgement calls. You know, mistakes. Not all of them, though. The Steelers have a lot of heart and can get carried away. I think Cowher is hilarious! Did you see when his instant replay button didn't work? I was cracking up! Hope to talk to you soon! You can e-mail me if you like. |
Hi,
No I didnt see Cowher with his button, I can imagine it though, he throws fits all over the place, while his fans just throw yellow towels(-: Wont get any tv games until season starts and even then it is only 1 Sunday game, delayed and 1 Mon night game, which is also tape delayed. Being a nfl fan in England is not easy !!!!!!! Dawn |
Yeah, I can imagine. It must be difficult to get the games out there. The odd thing is, sometimes it's even hard to get them in the US, too! I used to live in Pittsburgh, but then moved to another part of the state. We don't get all the Pittsburgh games. We don't even always get local games!
So, what's been up lately with the 9ers? Injuries, signings, anything? I ususally watch NFL2Night on ESPN2, but I haven't heard much of them. I'm always happy to discuss anything football related! The incident with Cowher was this: His instant replay button wasn't working, so he threw it into the ground twice. It was very comical! Now he says he won't use the button anymore. He's resorting back to those red flags they had. I have one of those yellow towels. "The Terrible Towel"! It may seem silly, but it's cool if you're at a game or practice. Anyway, I'll talk to you later! |
Hi Drum,
Theres not much to report from the 9ers camp except we are having a crap pre season, 1-3, Oakland beat us last night  The boys always have an awful pre season, in the golden years of them being the SB champs, I used to be able to say we dont bother with pre season as we are saving our best for the real stuff. I cant say that anymore, we are a team rebuilding and I just have to stay faithful to them and watch them grow up and retain the glory days. Dont know much about the Steelers, just about Cowhers tantrums and the yellow towels, I think those towels are cool, they look great being waved about, Pitts fans are famous for it. Dallas are famous for their cheer leaders . SF used to be famous for the best QB and those SB rings. Ive got loads of SF stuff , my dad sends it over to me from stateside. How do you think your guys will play this season? Dawn |
I know what it's like to support a rebuilding team. After the Steelers lost the Super Bowl to Dallas they lost a lot of great players. Everything went downhill until last year. Hang in there! Before you know it, the 9ers will be ready for Super Bowl contention!
I think the Steelers should pull off a pretty good season. The pre-season so far is pretty stinky, but I think the regular season should be okay. I think we have a great chance at taking the division. I actually got to see the Steelers in training camp this year. We were visiting family and decided to head out to Latrobe. I'd done this a few years ago as well. It was really hot out but a great atmosphere. I took a panoramic picture of the practice field. It came out great! You're right about the 9ers QB legacy. I don't think you can get much better than Joe Montana! What I wouldn't have given to have him back in his hey-day!!! Any promising rookies this year? |
Hi Drum,
If the Steelers got their act together this year, dont you think its a touch to early to go all the way to the big SB? You never know though, it seemed like one minute STL was the worst in the league and the next they are wearing that ring. How cool for you to see them in training. Sounds great. Yeah Montana was the greatest, one of a kind, I dont know hwy but when Young turned up I didnt rate him, to soft on Joe still I guess!!!!!! Under Montana wing Young grew and what followed was amazing, especially stuff between him and Rice. Some of the best football Ive ever seen between them both. I dont really follow the rookies anymore I used to, and I always ended up feeling let down, or they just didnt play anywhere near as they expected to, guess that happens to a lot of rookies in all different teams. So now I just watch them play and make up my mind then during the real season. I remember Peyton, when he was suppose to be the best rookie going ever , Ididnt rate him much at all , when he hit the turf. I guess you will be watching Jovi opening up the season live in times square. Football and Jovi GREAT !!!!! throw in candy and Im in heaven LOL Jovi is going to fly over to Gaints then for the half time show to. I hope to get my dad to record it for me and mail it to me. DOnt know if he will get it on the right channels due to where hes stationed. Can I ask you why you call yourself Drum bum? Cause you sit on your bum to drum? You dont do anything but drum? Just wondering  Dawn |
Oh, I don't know about the Steelers making the Super Bowl! I meant we have a chance at having the best record in our division. You know they redrew the lines. AFC North only includes the Ravens, Bengals, Browns, and Steelers, and I think the Steelers stand a fighting chance. We'll see, though. We all know that anything can happen in the world of football!
I think Antwaan Randle El has great potential as our future receiver. He's little, but he's got great hands. I'm gonna keep an eye on that one! I hear Kordell's gonna hafta fight for his job this year. If he doesn't pull off a good one, he may be gone next year. I think what it comes down to is his contract. He's getting payed a lot of money, and I guess if he can't do anything better than Maddox can do, they'll let him go. It's a shame, but I guess that's the way the business goes! My username??? Well... There's a couple of factors there. The drum is my favorite instrument. Everytime I listen to a song, that's what I'm hearing! Tico is my favorite member of the band. I don't play the drum, but I hope to pick it up soon. It's a dream of mine. Of course I'll be watching Bon Jovi on the 1st regular season game. Like you say, there's not much better than Jovi AND football together! Hope you can get the tape!!! I thought it was great when Aerosmith was on the Super Bowl halftime show, but this is so much better!!!! I guess, "Everyday" is supposed to be on Madden 2003. I think that's so awesome! I'm sure we'll end up buying it. We love video games in my house. How about you? Can you get a hold of the game in England? |
Hi Drum,
I used to use a drum kit when I was a teenager, it belonged to my pal , we had great friend. Found if you cant get a drum kit then just buy a pair of drum sticks, its great to practice on anything to the music. Like you said anything is possible is possible as far as the football season is concerned. Its a good group you are in and I think the Steelers have a good chance to get through it and come out on tops. Not really keen on any of those teams in that section. Browns used to be a brilliant team, not anymore, think they are still to young like the 9ers to acheive anything this year. As anything can happen its easy to hang onto those SB dreams. If someone had told me a few years ago about STLbeing SB champs I would have laughed so much. I saw Areo at the SB thought they played great. I had a Maddden game a few years back, it was quite good. Out of date now and Ive got a different games console, think they have a Madden for this one so I might try and get it, have a play. We do have local nfl football teams all over England, a lot of the guys come from off the nearest US bases. Guess you have seen the NFL Europe to? I dont like it, its just like a massive training ground, I know a lot of coaches watch it . It just reminds me of college football and I spend all my time cringing at all the mistakes being made, I know they have to learn somehow. Who am I to talk, if I was in a scrimmage I would be squashed to death in 10 secs!!!!!!!!!!LOL Dawn |
Heyya, Dawn!
Every time I'm reading this name, I can't help but think of that Oldie by The Four Seasons. It's strange that I would know of it, I know, but my dad is into that music! Yeah, I'd heard of the NFL Europe, but I apparently forgot all about it! We occasionally watch a game or two (very occasionally). You're right, the mistakes are awful, so I often find it a bit too frustrating to watch an entire game. Kind of like arena football. The field is so small, and they score too much. A touchdown just doesn't seem quite as sacred that way! I'll have to try that with a drum kit or at least the sticks. That'll be enough to make me happy. Can't expect to be as good as Tico anyway!!! LOL! It's a shame what happened to the Browns over the years. There used to be a great rivalry between the Browns and the Steelers, which ended with their sale to Baltimore. The rivalry moved over to Baltimore, and a new one with the Browns hasn't really resurfaced since they've been rebuilding ever since they came back. Rivalries are the kind of thing I love to hate and hate to love. They're frustrating but so much fun! I'm actually looking forward to my high school's football season. Things are starting to look up for us. We made the play-offs for the first time last year. Our new coach (he was actually my 6th grade teacher!) really knows what he's doing! TTYL! |
