any horseracing fans (history) here??

I have being doing some research on famous racehorses for my presentation in one of my classes. I have always loved horses, anything about horses. Growing up, we always had horses around. Some people take in stray dogs, my mother took in stray (and abused) horses. She also raised, trained and breed Appaloosas.

Anyhow, back to my orgianal point to this post. My all time favorite racehorse is Man O' War. Doing some research, I have found out so much about him. Like for instance, Seabiscuit is his grandson.
Man O' War broke records by several seconds, and set new World and American Records. But he was never ran in the Kentucky Derby. He raced (and won) on any kind of track, sloppy or good: turf or dirt: straight or circle. He had as much as 138lbs added to him during races, a good 30lbs more than his rivals and he still left them in the dust. He won one race 100 lengths ahead of the others.
He was also bought as a yearling for only $5000. But when he was retired, his owner was offered 1 million dollars for him. His owner turned down the offer, stating "anyone can have a million dollars...but only one person can have a Man O' War."
Another odd but interesting fact, Man O' War had a bad habit of chewing his hooves.

But Man O' War (aka Big Red) wasn't the only horse I did the report on, the four others I did it on were Citation, Secretariat , Seattle Slew, and Cigar. I could have added more horses, but we had to keep it short.

Through the research I have discovered that there is a big debate over who was greater...Man O' War, Secretariat or Citation. I still say Man O' War.

I have been thinking, wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow, get those five legends on the racetrack now, for a showdown, to see who was the "most horse"? My bets would be on Man O' War....who would you choose? Or would you throw in another horse in there, and bet on him/her?

You can check out these links and get some info on these legends of racing...

I totally agree with you, Man'O War was the best :D
But my favourite horse at the moment is Ashkalani,

I have actually owned a few race horses - unfortunately no real champions yet, although they did win a few races. I currently have a new 3 year old filly called Vanity Plain about to hit the track, so hopefully she can find the winning post for me!
