Why is there still a Queen in England?
 

Myself and a co-worker of mine were having this discussion yesterday. What is the reason there is still a Monarchy, and a Queen? You are governed by your Parliament, right? I know that she got rich off of all your taxes, but what is her true role? We can't figure it out...... :oops:

Yeah, that's true. Apparently though, only a fraction of 1% of our taxes per year goes to the monarchy, so it's not too bad, lol.

How about this one; does America really need a President? lol.

All he does is try to start wars.

I start to wonder the same thing about Holland... Especially the last couple of weeks with a lot of trouble going on in the royal family. The niece of our queen accuses the queen of abuse of power. Our queen didn't agree with the future husband of her niece and apparently she did research on the history of that man, stuff like that... That seems to be more important news for weeks now over here than anything else that happens in the world. There's more important stuff to take care of these days. Our new government hasn't even been formed yet and it's like that for months now, the politics are a mess and all they worry about is to find out if the queen did or did not abuse her power. I'd say, just get rid of the monarchy and there wouldn't be any problem like this. But I guess it has more to do with traditions why there's still a monarchy. The monarchy has been a part of the country for centuries. Even though the queen hasn't got much power when it comes to important, political decisions; she still has quite a status as a queen, I think a lot of people like that.

Putting aside the tradition of the Monarch over the centuries - they r a huge Tourist attraction. Worth LOTS of money!!!

& we all use the Queens money :wink:

It's not that. If you ever look at yourself, and think God I'm ugly and stupid, it's reasuring to know that there's always a family full of people more ugly, and more stupid than yourself!!!!!

One of the Greatest moments of the Comenwealth Games was when that girl from Franses house (hospis for sick children) called Kirsty something...her names just gone completely out of me head. Anyway, she gave the light thing to the queen. The queen refused to go down to her, because the queen can't go down to anybody (we're talking about a young girl who's I think 5, who's attached to a machine, with tubes coming out of her nose).... But, David Beckham lead her to the queen, he did go down to her, and shown a lot of genuen affection. At the end, Kirsty was asked what it was like to meet the queen... she said "It was brilliant to see David again!!!!!" I love that one...... Our Royal family can't even show even the most remot bit of compation for a terminally ill child, who shows the most increadibly courage, and is an insperation to everybody who knows about her.

She has her heart the wrong way around, and was estimated at 3 to have days left to live. SHe pulled thorugh, and has been working, or heading a campagne to raise money for Frances house, so far I think she's raised either £2, or 3 million. It's an increadible story!

It has only to do with tradition.

Its to do with tradition sure but think to yourself, what does the head of state do!? She is head of state, Head of the Commenwealth, Head of goodness knows how many countries.

I saw the Opening Ceremony the bit which your on about, and you are wrong saying "the queen couldnt even come down to get the flalme off Kirsty" Your saying that the Queen and possibly anyone in the Royal family thinks of themselves as some high and mighty person, you are totally wrong! Last year at the Golden Jubliee, the Queen went to the Childrens Hospital in Manchester and took time to walk round and see what was happening. She may not have done this at the Commenwealth Games but in the whole of this Jubilee she visited sick, homeless from every walk of life.

And to all you people who judge the Royal family for doing nothing normal, take a look at Prince William, that says it all.
