Lyric Question? What's it mean?

Never knew what the line from It's Hard Letting You Go meant:

organ grinder's lullaby

An organ grinder is a guy who's kind of like a street musician, I think. And he's playing a lullaby. But i think it's metaphoric, not litterally she left him for an organ grinder's song. I think it means she found someone else who plays "a different tune" and she was seduced by it.

I see a little bit more in it than that. In the movie Rebecca's husband was killed by a hit and run driver, so he was killed on the street and an organ grinder can be a street musician. So it's giving the image that the man may have gone "to sleep" listening to an organ grinder.

That's a really good interpretation! I forgot this song was associated with the movie.

in which movie?

The song was written as a gift for the screenwriter of Moonlight and Valentino. The movie was based on her own life experience of loosing her husband early. I think her name was Ellen Simon, but I can't quite remember for sure. They considered using it in the movie with a female singer to represent Rebecca's character in the scene near the end of the movie where she's in the bedroom having her little breakdown. The timing didn't work out.
