can anybody tell me what the story of the movie is about?

Jon plays Jamey Meadows, a man who's just gotten out of jail after taking the rap for his brother Gil who is a criminal. He's homeless, living on the street. His brother tries to get him to help him with criminal activities, but Jamey refuses. He eventually gets a job as a census taker which leads him to meet Chun Hua, a Chinese immigrant in an abusive unhappy marriage whom he falls in love with. Gil's criminal activities rock his and Chun Hua's world.
