Why we should support the war.
 

My son is now fighting in the gulf war, I haven't been here for the last two weeks so i am not surprised to see the level of opposition. The anti-war protestors are able to protest in public because they live in a democracy, that is their right. However although I do not support all the reasons given for going to war, I support the British and American and Australian forces in their fight against Saddam and his thugs. My son's mother whom I separated from 10 years ago, is frantic with worry when she sees the news and I share her worry when I realise our special forces have not found all the scuds which were hidden. the iraquis fired 7 missiles uincluding 5 scuds that were never revealed to the Weapons inspectors, so the Coalition forces have already been proved right on that front. I take offence to a lot of peoples comments especially Choc lady's comments that those who enlist as soldiers are fanatics. I joined the army because when Maggie Thatcher was prime minister, I could not get a job like millions of othersin the uk. The army gave me security,discipline and a trade and the best friends and family you could ever hope to have.
I served in Northern ireland and was bombed and shot at by both sides of the religious fence, just for keeping the peace. The good thing about taking out Saddam is that we can lift sanctions against Iraq and give the 70% of the population who lived in poverty and fear, the help and medical attention they need.
It will also stop the palestinian suicide terrorists from receiving blood money and explosives for their bombing campaign against Israel. hopefully the Usa and the UK will deliver on their promise to create a viable Palestinian state by 2005.
As for the french and germans, I lost all respect for their leaders a long time ago. Chirac only got in because the french people were terrified of the National Front winning against him. Germany's right wing national parties are gaining a stronghold in Eastern Germany.
The next time there is another European war, The UK and the USA may decide not to help.
The media works both ways.
In Kosovo, when the USA/UK went in to free the moslems, there was no anti war protests. The media said there was around 100,000 people dead. to date, there have been only 700 bodies exhumed-so what happened to the so called mass executions.
I am proud of my son and his comrades. I am not religious but I hope that he comes out of this the hero he is.
Another thing, the majority of anti war protestors are women who brain wash their kids by taking them to anti war marches. Just think that if you were muslim, you would be a second class citizen with no voting rights , a hubby who coould have ten wifes and have had female circumcision carried out. So thank your lucky stars.

I for sure don't support this war but my thoughts are of course with the soldiers who have to fight and their families, a lot of them for sure without agreeing with this.

I don't think that the soldiers are fanatics. They just do what they are told, as I said above a lot of them for sure without agreeing in this war.

I really hope you son will come home safe.

Some are gung ho, blood thirsty, lets kill as many sand n*ggers as we can though. Many (not all) people join the army because they can't get any other job, simply because they don't have the skill or the intelligence to do anything else. Many of those people will just be happy to 'get some action'.

And for those who chose to join the army, well, you have to be a certain type of person to do that...

i think it is our duty to go in their and get rid of saddam. people may not agree with it but in the end we do not know the true reasons. persoinally i think that its not the most needed war but if its going to deter hostile states from being aggresive not just against us but other states then so be it.

re: the war protesters. i dont think u'll get many students and school kids out protesting today since they're not getting out of college or school to do it eh? they will never achieve anything by it so in the end they're just walking around waving posters at people who aren't listening and don't care.

my sister works for an the scottish national american football team and couldn;t leave her office the other day because of protesters outside. now that is not anti war thats anti ****in american. if u want to be anti war go and march in baghdad or downing street dont ****ing terrorise people who have done nothing except work for a company that promotes an american sport.

guess what? most of them were asian or arabic. they had no interest in peace they just wanted to take a dig at what they see as an american entity. brand me a racist if you wish i dont care because i have nothing against other races at all except when we get ungrateful bullshit like this. like it or not it IS our country. if its so bad then leave. the same applies to every protester in my opinion

im no warmongerer but i do believe that alot of people owe the UK and USA alot over the years and to get this crap from them is unbelievable.

Soldiers know their risks and death in combat is one of the risks that comes with the job.

I hope your son will come back home safe, but I also think we should not blame anyone but himself and UK army chiefs if he does not. Definitely not blame Saddam and his soldiers.

i understand your worry as i understand the worry every relative of soldiers on both sides and i really hope that as many relatives as possible get their sons, daughers, husbands etc. back home unwounded.
but though there are some points in your post i want to critic.

1. it was very clear that iraq wouldn't reveal all their weapons to the weapons inspectors as soon as bush declared to disarm iraq by military force. it is easy to destroy an enemy when you know where he stories which weapons and where his forces are stationed. this was the failure of george bush and his men (powell, rumsfeld,...)

2. you forgot that another good thing is that america can test new weapons, and get rid of their old ones which means that they have to reproduce their used weapons- as i suppose you know that the american industry depends on weapon preoduction by ~60%- which means that the u.s. economy can sneak out of their crisis

2.1. don't forget about the oil...

3. this means that sharon can continue peacefully the violent settling in palestenian territory which he could only start cause bush backed him up- the United Nations protested wildly against that- thanx georgy!

4.we (austria) have a black-blue center-right coalition government- germany's government is center-left (red-green)...

5.i know you brits don't like the sad fact that GB belongs to EUROPE! please name a country and one reason to fight a war against a country of the EU- yet there is a war fought on european territory but nobody cares about chechnia (sorry for the spelling) like nobody cares about palestina

6. it wasn't usa/uk- it was the UNO (even austrian soldiers fought there although we have a charta of independency) and there was a reason!!! and if usa/uk went to free the palestenians instead of the iraqis there wouldn't have been demonstrations and that would have been backed up by the UN

7. now this statement makes me go wild although i'm male! over here it's not only stupid "women who brainwash their kids"- it's more than 85% of the population!!! and i think it's a matter of respect and not even necesseary to talk about that men and women are to be treated at least equally!!!!!!!!!!! by saying the thing with muslems 1. you mix up politics and religion 2. prove your missing knowledge about the muslim religion! polygamy was allowed to lower the women's poverty rate- it still is allowed in some arab countries. the woman certainly has the right to divorce if her husband decides to take another wife. "cheating" (which even includes holding hands with another man/woman) is strictly forbidden for both sexes. in some cases muslim wives are rated higher by men than women are rated here: they don't blame women for the "original sin" and women are can get priests (unlike in the roman catholic creed), there was nothing like inquisition or witch-slaughtering in the muslim history and the moslem chruch NEVER DOUBTED THAT WOMEN HAVE A SOUL!!!!!!!

i believe you're referring to my post on another subject. believe me: i don't claim to be wise or highly intelligent but i do spend a lot of time reading various newspapers (even british ones) and i think i know something about politics-
and yes: i "refused" serving the austrian army by choosing the option we've got here which is something like social work- with the reason that i think that it is more important and helpful for my (hopefully :lol: ) later work as a doctor to serve for the red cross than to learn how to shoot people. therefore i don't know anything about military- but a friend of mine who lives on the same etage as i do is oberleutnant (don't know what that is in english- it's- above lieutenant) and knows quite sth. about war and military- and he talks for hours about that subject per day and this is why i know some bits (NOT sarcastic :!: ) about war and military
