Hi everyone

Greetings from Barcelona. You're great.

Are you referring to a specific song (like Something For the Pain) or is it a general observation?

i was talking about his general way to sing behind jon's voice. Let's see. For example (although he does it in every song) in The Distance. The chorus. You can hear jon's voice and behind the same line than Richie but in another tune.

I like Richie's back up singing  It spices up the sound and feel of the songs.

yes, in some songs it's amazing, the harmony is so perfect ... not so much band can do this :)

Yeah, he's just singing in harmony, sometimes just an octave higher, or sometimes in a different key. Think Beach Boys or the Beatles.....

You also have to remember that background vocals often include Jon and the other guys too. They're recorded separately from the lead vocals. What you hear on CD is sometimes going to be Richie, sometimes Jon, sometimes, Jon & Richie, and sometimes, Jon, Richie, Dave, or the Waters Sisters or anyone else they decide to pull off the street. LOL
