Why is Bon Jovi a rock group?

A pop group is formed for 3, 4 or 5 boys or girls who dance and jump (Backstreet Boys, NSync) and, from time to time, try to sing something.

Bon Jovi had 5 Mens:
1. The Leader, vocal and songwriter named Jon Bon Jovi, whose "defect" is to be a good-looking man. He sing well and he created the lyric of very pretty songs.

2. A guitarrist named Richie Sambora, who is one of the most talented musicians and songwriters of the world. He is not only the guitarrist of Bon Jovi. He had two solo albums that are excellents. Besides this, he write very beautiful songs, solo and with Jon Bon Jovi.

3. David Bryan, a excellent musician, that play the keyboards :o and also know how to have beautiful songs.

4. And, in the drums, the hit-man, Tico Torres. If you are a drummer, you must to envy him. (and he was married with Eva Herzigova! 8) )

In short, Bon Jovi is one of the most important bands of the century (I´m not being exaggerated, they aren´t the beatles but...). A band that help many people to live their lifes. This band can transmit many feelings with their songs. They may have do something to be in the top twenty years after their first album. And 100 millions after.

I´m writing in English, and I can´t explain better. But this is what I feel.

How about The Corrs, or BB Mak or the Beatles? They don't dance or jump around but they are considered as pop group.

When I write that, I write it thinking in those that use "Pop" with a negative connotation

the word POP isnt only choosen for looks or dancing, the kind of poems, kind of dressing, the melodies, everything, you dont gotta use POP for those bands like bsb, POP is everything that is popular, so you dont gotta hate it when you hear that bj is a pop-rock band, cause when there is bands like AC/DC and SCORPIONS known as a rock, so you have to accept that bj is not ONLY rock....

I think there are different definitions of pop;

Pop music, the way that SpainSambora means it, is the type of music written to sell. The lyrics are meaningless, it has a catchy chorus, and is written purely to sell records. The singers/dancers themselves don't usually write the songs, and mime whenever performing "live". They can't sing too well anyway, the rstudio guys can mix it enough so that they sound good. The charts are also awash with old cover songs. Good example is DJ Sammy; covered Bryan Adam's Heaven and Don Henley's Boys Of Summer. They are given a catchy beat, sold as "dance" music, and given cheesy videos. They are made purely to make money.

Bon Jovi write their own material, perform live, and don't care about the money (I suppose they have plenty by now).

I dont want to listen to a rock band that writes bloody pretty songs :x

i woould describe their songs as beautiful - and it's not a dandelion- congnitation word for me. For me, their songs are beautiful. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful music, beautiful voice ... just all around beautiful.
