Lyrics similarities
Hi:
Just wondering if you guys noticed the similarities in some of the songs on Bounce. They use "c'mon" as a major part of the chorus (or at least a major part of the song) in Hook Me Up and Joey. He talks about having been around blocks in both AALY and Open All Night. "Running lights" gets mentioned in both RSOW and Misunderstood. I thought I'd bring this this up, see if anyone else as caught these. Adrian |
Hey, they also use "the" a lot too, lol.
That wasn't something I noticed though. |
i noticed it too...

one thing that just popped into my head today as I watched " JBJ - London '97" was that for Detinbation A... Jon seemed to be in a bit of a 'sha-la-la' phase. it was a popular background element in the music on that disc.

yeah, and he also used 'sha la la' for the demo of joey...i wouldnt be surpised if he uses this for the live version too...

There are a bunch of phrases that Bon Jovi love to use.
"Come on" "Hey, hey, hey, hey" "All the good s***'s gone." "I'd rather die than fade away." And lots of stuff with guns and fire (almost every track on SWW has it). |

In fact, it's nice to hear the phrases or re-live the imagery from the past when I'm listening to more current songs. :D Any others to add? |
A lot of that stuff is just Jon rewriting the songs of his youth... He steals and borrows stuff from other songs and uses them in his. Just compare Springsteens lyrics to Jon's for example. Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott is also one of the early influences. And if you dig into Tom Waits' or Elvis Costellos work, I'm pretty sure you'll find lots of similarities.
I.e. "it's better to burn out that fade away" is by Neil Young, (almost the same)., Springsteens "Drive All Night", Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet"... But I guess it's okay. Springsteen's been singing about cars and rivers for ages now and it still sounds fresh. Ice |
