Bon Jovi and QVC

NEW YORK, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- QVC, the world's leading electronic retailer, and Island Def Jam Records announce that multi-platinum rock band BON JOVI will make an unprecedented live appearance on QVC on SATURDAY, APRIL 12 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) from its sold-out Bounce Tour concert in San Jose, CA. Additionally, QVC will make available a Bon Jovi Limited Tour Edition Bounce CD & DVD/VHS Package (Item #E17800) featuring previously unreleased performance footage, which will be available only on QVC (http://www.qvc.com). This unique event will be Bon Jovi's first and only live televised performance from its Bounce Tour. Segments of the band's live performance will be broadcast nationally on QVC between 11:30 p.m.-midnight and 12:30-1:00 a.m. ET. During the eight o'clock hour, the band members will give viewers a backstage glimpse into their soundcheck before the concert, talk to QVC Program Host Lisa Robertson about their music, and also take phone calls from fans live on the air. "We are really excited about working with QVC on this initiative," said Jon Bon Jovi. "This alliance allows us to reach out to our fans across the country and offer them another way to experience a Bon Jovi live show, as well as a chance to own some never-before-released video, and get an inside glimpse into the inner workings of the Bounce tour." "QVC is always looking for new and interesting product for our diverse audience, and no one has a more diverse audience than Bon Jovi," said John Kelly, QVC's VP of Merchandising Home. "After selling more than 98 million albums, and performing over 2000 shows for more than 31 million people, Bon Jovi is the perfect fit for us. We are really looking forward to working with one of the world's most successful rock bands for this innovative Bon Jovi/QVC event." This QVC live broadcast represents a continuation of Bon Jovi's ongoing innovative marketing initiatives in support of the band's latest album, Bounce. The band garnered critical acclaim as industry innovators when they launched their AmericanXS program in conjunction with the new album. Each Bounce album came with a unique pincode that CD owners could register at http://www.bonjovi.com. Membership in the program is free and offers a menu of added value such as exclusive pre-sales for concert tickets, exclusive, downloads, contests and video footage of the band. All the Limited Tour Edition copies of Bounce will also include these pincodes. The band also recently participated in a highly successful partnership with national retail outlet TARGET, which released an 8-track CD available exclusively in Target stores and online, accompanied by a high-profile TV commercial, airing in heavy rotation. Released on October 8, 2002, Bon Jovi's Bounce debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts, giving Bon Jovi their highest ever album debut in the U.S. The first single, "Everyday," was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group. The current single, "Misunderstood," is climbing the charts. Bon Jovi launched the Bounce project with two massive high-profile events. On September 5, 2002, Bon Jovi headlined the NFL KICKOFF in TIMES SQUARE, performing live in front of half a million people before helicoptering from NYC across to Giants Stadium to perform "Everyday" during the halftime of the NY Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers opening season game. Bon Jovi were the first-ever artists to perform at halftime at the stadium. The NFL personally asked the band to close the NFL season with a performance at SUPER BOWL XXXVII in San Diego - the band performed their hit "It's My Life" which the NFL has designated as the signature song to be performed in conjunction with all future Super Bowl Championship celebrations. The current Bon Jovi Bounce Tour has included a dozen sold-out baseball stadium dates in Japan and kicked off a U.S. run in February. The tour will take Bon Jovi through the U.S. until the end of April, onto stadium dates in Europe and returning stateside for a summer run of concerts in July and August (including two sold-out homecoming shows at New Jersey's Giants Stadium). Hmmmmmmmmm......maybe it's just me, but isn't this a little too much??? I know they are looking for sales and everything, but that's just blatantly selling yourself on the nations largest home shopping network. Of course, as I criticize them for choosing to do this, you can be darn sure I"ll be watching it and buying the DVD. LOL......

Arenas aren't the only thing that they are selling out...

i think this is a real desperate attempt to sell albums, as much as i want the album to do well, i want it to do well with a hit single not a shopping network.
i think they should maybe take the 650,000 copies they have sold of bounce and move on, or release another single that will tear up the charts. :?:

If U2 announced this, it would be ****in' brilliant though, wouldn't it? We're very quick to judge Bon Jovi. QVC is not cool but maybe the band will surprise us? They're obviously not sitting in the studio with Joan Rivers selling bad jewelry... sounds like QVC is breaking the chains of the QVC studios and trying something new. They're on Bon Jovi's turf... so maybe there is something groundbreaking for real and not just hype?

It has now been confirmed by the Info HQ that this Special Limited Tour Edition of Bounce with the live/backstage DVD/VHS will only be available in the USA and Canada.

Any USA fans willing to buy a truckload and sell the extra copies to us international fans? Or, alternatively, is anyone willing and able to make copies of the DVD and/or turn it into a VCD? I would obviously prefer the real thing myself, but since we're given no choice, some of us might have to settle for copied versions with colour-photocopied covers. :(

Really??? Well that's not fair.

In fact, the QVC UK website has the product code listed, but is says its not for sale yet or something. It wouldn't be fair to sell it in the US and Canada only.

Just looked at BJHQ, and this is the question which was answered;

Question:
Is the dvd from QVC going to be region-free or only viewable for the usa zone ?
asked by mimi on Tuesday, April 1

Answer:
We'll see if we can get that info but, since it's only available via QVC in the US (and Canada, according to www.qvc.com) chances are the DVD would be formatted for those regions. It's funny - why are non US fans SO QUICK to presume the worst? Did everyone east of New Jersey get up on the wrong side of the bed today?

Damn, I hope we can order from Europe, and everywhere else of course, lol.

I don't see why we couldn't order from QVC US. I could probably buy anything from them right now, and the only difference would be an extra delivery cost.

Well, from the way the Oompas have worded their replies to several questions about the QVC special and its availability, they seem to be hinting very heavily that it won't be available outside the U.S. and Canada. They've for example been asked directly if it'll be available in the UK or Germany, both of which have their own QVC channels, and so far they've answered no.

Also, I tried to register with the QVC.com website so that I could buy the DVD thingy directly when it'll become available, but the website didn't allow me to register cause my address wasn't in the USA or in Canada.

All that said, it might still happen that the US record label or QVC will make some special arrangements to have the thing available for international fans as well. In general, though, both the Oompas' and the US fans' attitude seems to be that since the rest of the world has gotten the singles and all sorts of extra tracks etc over the years, we shouldn't have any reason to complain if the QVC special won't be available to us.

I don't think it's fair to make global generalizations like that. I know that I'm canadian (by address anyway--scottish by nationality), but I don't think we wish this situation on any fan.

Just my 2 cents.
