Opinions on Opening Bands

Although it's been great having the Goo Goo Dolls open for the shows, and although I can't deny that they have good material and they have good stage presence, I want to know if I'm the *only* one who would perhaps not mind seeing another band? Again, I do NOT not like the Goos by any means... But I know a lot of their material, especially their hits. Am I the only one who would like to see a lesser known band open for Bon Jovi?

And by lesser known, I don't mean a local band who doesn't even have a record contract. I mean, a type of band who's in the same stage that Bon Jovi was during their first two albums. I always liked to be introduced to new and possibly GOOD material. Plus, if a band like that go to open for Bon Jovi, it might do WONDERS for their career... or at least get their name out there. Bon Jovi is so HUGE, they could sell out a show REGARDLESS of who opens for them anyway.

I did not attend any of the shows during the OWN tour but I have been told that SR71 was a great band and great choice for a support act. I have never even HEARD of SR71, but this is exactly my point. I'm pretty curious to find out what they sound like since I have heard good reviews so I might go and download a few of their songs. Who knows, I might have another favorite band to add to my list.

So, while it's great to have such a big band like the Goos to open for Bon Jovi, I would also not mind being introduced to something new. Does anyone agree?

BTW, I don't expect BJM to read this and take this into consideration, I'm just stating my opinions.

And I'm posting this here because I have not been able to get any feedback at Backstage. I don't know why. :? Actually, I do know why.

SR71 is great. If you're interested, their latest CD is called Tomorrow.

SR-71 is a great band.

I don't care to see the GGDs again either. I like a lot of their songs, but was not impressed with them as a live act at all.

I do think it's nice to see more well known acts opening for Bon Jovi though. I would LOVE to see Sheryl Crow when she's opening for them. It's a treat for the fans to get two popular acts as opposed to one. Even cheaper concert tickets are expensive now, so it seems like you're getting more value for your money. The bad part is having two popular acts on one bill makes the scalper prices that much higher. So, in that respect, bring back Less than Jake. LOL

I agree that SR-71 was amazing live -- and as previously mentioned, "Tomorrow" is incredible. It's a shame it's getting virtually no airplay in the US.

I hate to admit it, but I don't want to see the Goo Goo Dolls again if I venture to another summer concert, either. I wasn't exactly doing jumping jacks when I heard they were opening for the first leg of the tour, but when I saw them live, they did diminish a little of my cynicism. They ARE very good live. And the majority of their songs are very catchy. But for some reason, I just haven't become a die-hard.

I'd love to see P!nk open for Bon Jovi -- we all know she's already a huge fan, and she's got the pipes to wow the audience. It would be cool to finally juxtapose a female solo singer with an all male band for once. But that's just my humble opinion
