Default RIP Peter Collins

Peter Collins' work with Bon Jovi was sheer perfection. I don't think anyone got more out of the band than him. Just the fact that they'd chose him was probably the last time the band had any artistic ambition, the willingness to get out of any comfort zone. I know they never really got along and neither of them ever spoke about their collaboration in detail, but I had always hoped somewhere deep inside that they'd do one more record together. Now he is dead.
Rest in Peace, maestro.

Sad news, may he rest in peace.

Has Jon ever commented on production and producer choice of These Days?

Yeah, Jon mentioned one time that they weren´t ´´fair`` with Peter Collins in the sense that he and Richie took over the production reins in the early stages

Jon praised him several times for his work on Always and Saturday Night but then when it came to These Days I think no one was really happy with each other's ways of working and expectations. Such a pity...

Only reading about him since he died that I’ve discovered he was born in the same town as me (Reading).😢

Aloha !

Peter Collins did These Days to get his name out. He much fancied newer bands with a modern sound and fresh approach. It's why he produced so many relatively unknown acts. The Bon Jovi approach of writing hits instead of just good songs, wasn't really what he was into.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

That's kind of right, the man liked a challenge and he wasn't easy to work with, no matter who you were. Naturally, newer bands found that less intimidating.

Bizarrely, Jon said in a TV interview in Asia around 95/96 that it was the Suicidal Tendencies record that made him and Richie pick Collins. I always found that statement bizarre to say the least, very much doubt they ever listened to Suicidal Tendencies.

However, I'm pretty sure I read on some other forum or was told that it was very much Hugh McDonald who recommended him and who had facilitated the introduction, they had worked together a few years before on Alice Cooper's Hey Stoopid (also one of my favourite Alice records). That was Hugh's chance to make it official, and he blew it for 20 years
