Default White Stripes vs Bon Jovi: June 18th/19th

The White Stripes have revealed the worldwide release dates of their forthcoming album.

'Icky Thump' - the follow up to 2005's 'Get Behind Me Satan' - is slated to be released on June 18 in the UK and Europe via XL Recordings, and June 19 in North America, South East Asia and Japan via Warner Brothers Records.

Is it just me people, or is it the case that everytime Bon Jovi release an album... some other big name decides to release the same day? Another number 2 in the UK i think....

I would hardly consider them a big act anymore as theyrv been away for a while and the current 'hip' music scene forgets people pretty quick (The Strokes anyone?) it will go top 10 at least but it all depends on how big their comeback single is.

Bon jovi will chart top 5, as they have a firm fanbase built up over many years, unlike many current bands who fade away if they dont make a killer 2nd album these days.

Who beat BJ to the top last few releases? I think Elvis and REM if my memory serves me..which is fine by me! Who were the others? Dont say Westlife, please...

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

I know Disturbed beat out Bon Jovi for the U.S. release of HAND. It wasn't even close.

*shrugs* Comes with the territory I guess. Sales wise, BJ aren't exactly a force to be reckoned with or a band that would make other bands reconsider release dates.

I hink Bon Jovi is definatley a force, especially worldwide.
But, I would assume that the record companies think these two records are shooting for two different fan bases.

Maybe for a big album being pushed with lots of promo but this is such a little off the side album, and even if it WAS a big album, it wouldn't pull in the numbers it used to. I dno, we've seen so many bands go head to head with the band, I don't think anyone's really all that scared. They have their fan base, Bon Jovi has there's. Unless the artist is a hot A/C band, it's a different audience. Just my opinion....

That's what I'm saying about the fan bases.

As far as the album, at this point a Bon Jovi album is a garuntee multi-platinum in worldwide sales. I mean, even TLFR has over 2,000,000 sold worldwide.

As long as Bon Jovi get to number 1# in the singles chart i will be more than happy, if they get to number 1# in the album charts too i will be ecstatic. If it was between the two though, Number 1# in singles defo
